1 A Bad Start to A Day.

Rin's day started like any other day. Her eyes opened to the view of people walking in front of her. Each one not paying any attention to the abandoned girl. Rin couldn't help but sigh as today marked the 14 years she was kicked out of her house, which also meant that she would be spending her 19th birthday on the streets.

Rin, wanting to make enuff money to buy lunch for the day, got up and began running errands for her neighbors to earn a few copper coins for a loaf of bread.  Her jobs were simple: first, she fetched water for Ms. Johnson, then she cleaned Mr. Jeffsons yard from his nightly parties, and finally, she finished helping the local vendors set up.

Rin began to walk away from one of the vendors before realizing that she had only been paid, five copper. "Hey," she yelled at the vendor who was about to open his store. "You only paid me five copper, this is even less than yesterday." She said holding her hand out for the 2 more coins she was owed. The vendor looked back and scoffed at her. "Look, you're what? 19 years old now? I can keep paying you 7 bronze coins a day for you to set up my stand."

Rin looked almost angry as she pointed at the man. "Where else am I supposed to make 2 more coins? You, Ms. Johnson, and Mr. Jefferson are the only ones who will take pity on me and let me earn a few bronze coins. And those two have already told me that they won't be paying me anything tomorrow. You are the only person in this town who will even give me the time of day in this town."

He sighed and gave her four extra coins. "Look kid, it's not that we don't want to help you, it's just you're not a kid anymore and I think it's time you... you know..." The man pauses to let Rin figure out what he is trying to imply. "You don't mean for me to work in The Den with all the other girls?" The man only nods his head. "There are other kids without parents that need this job more than you do... don't take it personally," he says before walking back to his stand.

Rin looks down at her hand and clenches it hard. She had only been able to make 13 bronze coins today, which was even less than the 20 she used to be making. "So I guess I've hit the end of the road... well I guess I'd at least make more money working at The Den.'' A single tear was what slid down Rins face before she began walking back to the alleyway Rin had been sleeping in.

The alleyway had nothing of real value except a rusted knife that Rin had found thrown away. When she was 12 she had the idea of running into the woods and surviving on her own, fighting monsters and selling their corpses to adventurers and people who wanted them, but she threw that dream away fast. Even if she managed to get past the gate guards there was no way she would be able to fight any of the monsters out there, even worse was the fact that she wouldn't be able to get back into the town without paying a fee or having her card, something her mom burned in front of her.

Rin could only cry as she looked into the puddle before her. Her long and unkempt dark blue completely covered her eyes, blocking the tears from her face as she remembered her life before she was kicked out.

Her life was simpler, she ate snacks on the floor, listened to her mom's stories, and helped her dad clean his tools once he got home from work. but once he died her mom started to go into a blind rage, once realizing that her daughter had an affinity for the element of darkness she kicked her out of the house. Later she learned that her mom was killed in the middle of the street after attempting to assassinate a rich man who came into town.

Rin pushed her face into her clothes, which were just old blankets stuck together to look like a long shirt. Over her crying, she was unable to hear the yelling that came from the street until a loud cry of pain snapped her out of her dreams. Only then did Rin finally start to notice the screams coming from the street. Grabbing the old knife from behind a dumpster she began to sneak out to the road to see what the commotion was about. Once she was at the opening of the alleyway she looked at the road in shock, dead bodies were scattered all over the road, and standing over them was what could only be described as a monster. The monster had blood-red skin that seemed to be fusing with his black-colored armor. He completely towered over Rins small 5-foot frame, from where Rin was standing she determined that he was about 8 feet tall.

Suddenly the thing turned around to face Rin, its face managing a small smile showing that its teeth were completely stained red with the blood of the surrounding townsfolk. "OOoh, it another human." The thing said in a deep voice. "The queen said that we were to kill all humans, and if any humans were still alive we would be punished... so if humans don't want to be tortured by Muck you will stay still and let Muck squish you into lots of blood and guts." Muck said in his broken English.

Rin couldn't believe her eyes. The thing spoke of a queen, and the only queen she could think of would have to be the demon queen, but in Rin's mind, she could not comprehend why the demon queen would attack a random town like this. There were no rich, no soldiers other than town guards, and definitely no royalty to kill. Rin couldn't understand, but before she could even open her mouth to ask she found herself flying through the air.

Muck, in only 3 seconds had not only reached where she was standing but already hit her with his metal club. Rin hit the building behind her hard. She could hear cracking coming from her left arm. Looking over and expecting to see her arm broken she was instead shocked by the fact that her left arm was completely torn from her body. All that was left was a stump where her arm used to be attached.

Rin tried to let out a scream but once she opened her mouth all that came out was a bit of air. unable to scream or move her broken body she started to cry, as that was all she was able to do. She turned her eyes to Muck and watched as he walked away from where she had land, expecting her to be dead on impact. Muck, after taking a few steps, stopped and pulled out a brick from his ripped shorts and started to talk into it.

"Yes queen, all humans have been killed... yes i have killed the last human in my section of the town... Yes queen do not worry, Muck has made sure that all the humans are dead... ok, i will be out in five." And with that Muck with lots of purposes started to run out of the town.

Rin, unable to stand up, started to cry. "D-dame it, what is she going to use us for?" she managed to squeak out. Looking left Rin noticed a horrific sight, on the ground a mother holding another small child, both of them were dead.

Rin was only able to look at the horrible sight for a few seconds before a dark substance started to flow into the town like water. The dark liquid quickly washed over Rin and seemed to remove the pain from her arm. The longer she seemed to be in the substance the more her problems seemed to be washed away.

She no longer thought about the day she was through on the streets for having a taboo element, no longer did she have to worry about her money problems, and no longer did she have to worry about selling her body at The Den to make a few extra bucks.

Finally, the liquid that had completely submerged her head was now breaking down her body into several particles, each being reformed into a new servant for the queen. Something with only one thought in its mind, to serve her queen, to have undying loyalty to her queen, to only listen to her queen.

And then Rin woke up.
