9 Chapter 9: The Northwest Family and Mabel's Gift

Author's POV

In the manor of the infamously wealthy Northwest family, two men and a woman could be seen discussing in front of a fireplace.

"Have there been any problems with the boy?" declared the patriarch or current head of the Northwest family, Preston Northwest.

"No, Mr. Northwest. After having escorted them to their new place of residence, Mr. Dipper spent the rest of the day playing with Mabel before locking himself in the basement," Adrien explained calmly, without the slightest trace of gentleness on his face displayed before Dipper and Mabel.

"Did he not ask you anything about me or give you anything for me?" he asked, staring into the fireplace.

"No, sir," he replied simply in a formal tone.

"My dear, I doubt that Adrien alone could get close enough to Dipper to obtain that strange object that can expand and shrink everything," declared Preston Northwest's wife in a confident tone.

"Then what do you suggest, my dear? Since it is out of the question for our esteemed family to be content with crumbs when we can obtain more," Preston retorted to his wife.

It was clear to him that he could not tolerate a commoner holding such power and not him, the head of the majestic Northwest family.

"I suggest that in addition to Adrien, we should send Pacifica " she proposed.

"Of course, we won't do it in one fell swoop out of nowhere, but with the excuse that our little Pacifica is the next family leader, so she should become his friend," Priscilla Northwest declared after some thought.

"Good idea, my dear, and at worst, even if we don't get that strange flashlight, we're sure he won't be a possible problem for our family," he said, taking her in his arms to launch into a war of kisses, much to Adrien's dismay, who had to witness the spectacle.

Dipper's POV

"It's time to keep my promise," I declared in front of a freshly renovated laboratory.

During the few days I spent at Stan Pines' without even any outside adventure, I focused on reading several books on the biological advances of the Earth, but also other scientific fields.

I must say that the technology of the Vegapunk world is lagging behind in some areas compared to Earth, but it is also extremely advanced in certain sectors such as biology.

I am certain that with the facilities present here, I can recreate the modifications that the One Piece devil fruit brings to human and animal DNA, and even create artificial devil fruits.

"I will keep this technology for myself and a few privileged ones, but the rest will serve for my future ambitions," I said, imagining establishing a foothold in the technology industry using my knowledge and the Northwest family.

There were a large number of DNA samples in the laboratory, some belonging to humans and others to animals, but for now, none of the supernatural creatures of Gravity Falls, such as the vampires mentioned by Mabel in an episode, or minotaurs or unicorns.

This was something I hoped to repair later, but for now, I wanted to create the object promised to Mabel.

"An artificial devil fruit would not be suitable for her at the moment, so I will opt for a technology from a work that I appreciated," I muttered, manufacturing the watch that had made me dream at a time, before I met the Omnitrix.

Surprisingly, it was easier than expected to create a version of the "U-Watch" from the "Martin Mystery" show.

I had the idea for this because it is an extremely useful and versatile object, and I made two of them, one for Mabel and one for myself, to avoid delicate situations.

The basic functions of the "U-Watch" are as follows:

- Legendex (my version): a database of all monsters, creatures, and events worthy of mention and contained in the two journals belonging to Ford Pines in my possession.

- Bio Scan: analyzes any element, including biological residues, and provides results via the Internet and its data stream (so if the substance is of terrestrial origin, it will be able to identify what it is).

- X-Rod: fires a beam of light or an energy field to capture a creature. It can also extend into a staff (like Sun Wukong's staff) for melee combat.

- I-Cutter: creates an energy or light blade that can cut through walls, locks, and doors, and it can also occasionally fire concentrated "laser explosions" and shoot laser beams like a pistol.

- Virtual Tracer: has a GPS system that can be used to locate people or objects marked with a tracker specially created by Dipper, as well as another U-Watch.

- Turbo Bungee: a grappling hook that allows the wearer to escape confined spaces or climb more easily.

- Scan Zone: allows scanning an area using sonar.

- U-Shield: generates a force field or light shield that can cover the surface of an entire room. It also acts as an air reserve for limited durations underwater (but only for 5 or 10 seconds, just enough to breathe a few times).

- Phone Number Search Mode: the primitive AI created by me in the U-Watch responds with an address and name when the user enters an existing phone number from the Internet database.

It should also be noted that the "unofficial" functions of the original U-Watch that I copied to include an internal flashlight, a communication device. I also added the time display function, which the original U-Watch never showed.

I should improve it later, but for now, it's time for it to be tested in the field, and I think Mabel and Gifany must be getting bored without me.

"Who do you think you are?" Pacifica declared in a clearly frustrated tone.

"The one who won," Mabel replied in a self-satisfied tone to provoke her.

To summarize our current situation, I had spent the morning working on the finishing touches of the "U-Watch" and getting out of the basement.

I ran into Mabel and Pacifica, who seemed to be engaged in a battle of looks.

I formally greeted Pacifica and, of course, I avoided talking about my conversation with her family in front of Mabel, as I doubt she would understand my methods.

After a few minutes of discussions that, unfortunately, could not relieve the tense atmosphere in the room, I proposed playing a game to ease the situation.

"That's enough, what if we went outside?" I proposed something else to calm the situation.

"Anyway, board games are for losers," Pacifica said in a mocking tone, casting a disdainful look at Mabel.

[I knew that real-world girls are of a chaotic nature, but this one is in a league of her own], Gifany declared, showing up on my "U-Watch".

"Gifany, this is not the time," I said, rubbing my temple to try to calm down.

I had to test the "U-Watch" in the field anyway, so doing it with Pacifica wouldn't change much, would it?

===============================

Author's Note: Yes, there are not many major events in this chapter, but I decided to provide more details on these inventions, as well as to introduce Pacifica into the group.

There will also often be POVs of other characters like Stan Pines or Mabel.
