Chapter 19: End of the Party

Dipper's POV.

Giffany's teasing words are unfortunately a bit true since I was supposed to be posted outside the Mystery Shack and now I'm drawing attention inside.

"Ladies and gentlemen, it seems there is still one person who hasn't shown enthusiasm for Mabel or Pacifica," declared Soos.

"Dipper, you must choose who deserves the crown between Mabel and Pacifica," Soos explained behind the two young girls who seemed more threatening than usual.

"Dipper, we need you to decide between us and I really want that crown," Mabel asked, whispering the last part of her sentence in my ear.

"Although I find it a bit unfair since you're her brother, I'm going to trust Dipper's honesty," said Pacifica with a complicated expression to read.

"Dipper is not the type to play favoritism," Mabel retorted, but anyone could hear a smug tone in her voice.

It seemed Mabel already considered herself the big winner.

"Even though he's your brother, Dipper is also my friend, so I'll trust his judgment," she said in response to Mabel, crossing her arms.

At these words, there were whispers around us. It seemed the audience was clearly divided by the situation.

"Excuse me, girls, but..." I said towards the two girls in the midst of their debate.

"WHAT?" they answered me at the same time.

"I'm not really the only one who didn't vote during this event. If my vote is problematic, then I suggest good old McGucket," I said, putting my arm around the old man's shoulders.

I had already given old McGucket his freedom of movement by deactivating the telekinesis amulet when Mabel and Pacifica noticed me.

"What? What is it?" said McGucket in full bewilderment.

He still seemed dazed and I could understand why.

From his point of view, he was taking a nap and was suddenly interrupted by a strange power that had immobilized him.

Only to end up being questioned about a subject he hadn't paid attention to.

"Good evening, Mr. McGucket, we'd like your opinion..."

"STOP" yelled Mabel and Pacifica, who strangely were too close to my personal space.

"Dipper, we want your opinion to decide between us," Pacifica explained, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear.

It seemed she was embarrassed for having reacted a bit abruptly and I could see that Mabel was as embarrassed as she was by the situation.

I just wanted to quickly withdraw with McGucket but unfortunately I had been drawn into this situation. Sometimes, I really wondered if I was lucky or unlucky.

For now, I'll try to resolve the situation using the method often found in stories for children and teenagers, which is "honesty".

"I'm really flattered that you two have such a high opinion of my viewpoint ...," I began explaining to them.

"But I don't want to choose between you two since you both mean so much to me. I propose that this evening can have two queens," I said, walking towards Soos to remove the crown, break it in two and give the two pieces to Mabel and Pacifica.

My actions seemed to have created an odd silence at this party, but luckily Pacifica ended up speaking up to break this embarrassing situation.

"Sorry for being selfish, Dipper, I hadn't realized our request had put you in this situation," said Pacifica, taking the piece of crown.

"I'm also sorry, Dipper, I think I haven't been nice to you today even though you helped me have a lot of fun," Mabel expressed with her shoulders slightly slumped.

Their reaction reminded me even more that I was really in a fictional world and that I was still dealing with children. If this was on Earth and two girls asked a man to choose between them...

I prefer not to imagine how that situation would unfold.

I had also turned off the sound on my U-Watch, for now I prefer to avoid letting Giffany express herself.

"But then, we won't have our queen tonight?" Soos asked, it seemed he hadn't anticipated this kind of situation in his little notebook.

"Let's forget all this and come with me on my parents' yacht, we'll continue the party there," Pacifica announced loudly before motioning for me and Mabel to follow her.

"You can follow her, Mabel, my evening isn't over here," I told Mabel.

She seemed to want to say something but currently there was something more important for me, a man in his fifties who had been watching me for a while, frowning.

"So kid, you're not going to join your sister and these new friends on a yacht?" he said, taking a few sips of his beer.

I could clearly sense the discontent in his voice, which was understandable since he had entrusted me with a task that I had not fully carried out.

I could have used clones like Dipper did in the original story, but I preferred to avoid that.

I don't think my clones would be as cooperative as Dipper's original ones, the reason being that I'm an ambitious person and my current thirst for knowledge could create unexpected results.

"I left Wendy at the entrance of the Mystery Shack to sell tickets since I had to go to the bathroom," I naturally explained.

"You must have really destroyed the bathroom considering how long it took," Stan Pines replied in a clearly doubtful tone.

"Okay, I had two or three private things to do afterwards," I admitted.

His facial expression hadn't changed much despite my little confession.

"Tell me, Dipper, do you know why I entrusted you with this task with Wendy and let Mabel have fun?" he questioned me in a serious tone.

"Because you don't want to hire professionals to organize and manage the event?" I said without thinking too much.

*Bock* Sound of a light blow to the head.

"Yes and no, you idiot," Stan said, clearly embarrassed.

"I entrust you with this task because I trust you, Dipper, but you preferred to rely on Wendy and go who knows where," he explained, holding me by the shoulders.

"I know you're an extremely smart kid, but I'd like you to respect me under my roof, especially when I entrust you with this kind of task," he said in an unusual tone.

It seemed that involuntarily I had reminded him of his brother Ford.

Before he completely left the place, Stan Pines opened his mouth one last time. There was no longer the shadow of a frustrated grandfather, but clearly his usual facial expression, his businessman or con man mask was back.

"Here, if you want to make up your Shit, get to work."

After hearing his voice, I received a broom to the head.

"Not only did I not enjoy this stupid party and I couldn't keep old McGucket captive, but now I have to clean up too?"

Fortunately for me, my U-Watch was on silent mode, otherwise I would have had Giffany to deal with.

After cleaning everything up using the telekinesis amulet to go faster, I checked if Wendy was still there, but it seemed she had already left.

So currently in the Mystery Shack, there was only me, Stan Pines, Soos, and my little time traveler who was currently locked in a chest in the garage.

"Dipper, how could you do this to me?" Giffany declared, clearly angry and sad.

"Sorry, but I really needed to concentrate on dealing with Mabel and Pacifica."

Although I explained my reasons to her, it seemed Giffany didn't really appreciate being muted, and in a way I could understand her.

Even though I wanted to discuss more with her, Giffany didn't seem in the mood, so I preferred to leave her alone for now.

I'll just call Adrien with my U-Watch, I need to retrieve some things here before leaving with Mabel.
