Chapter 7

The next morning, Eli went to get Daphne down for breakfast. Everyone was already there, eating their breakfast, all seeming to be more at ease.

"Last night, the Murderers tried to murder a protected person, right? That's why no one was killed!" Kiana smiled.

"Yeah, I think that's the case," Eli agreed, looking neutral. "After breakfast, we should discuss what happened last night."

Later, they all gathered around the table. "So, we know that 4, Avery, and Pamela were not the Guardian. We also know that whoever who was targeted by the Murderers last night is not the Guardian."

"Daphne said that she heard her doorknob turn last night," Eli said.

"How do you know?" 1 tilted his head.

"She was scared, so she kept quiet. The only reason I found out was that she was whispering to herself in her room when I went to call her down for breakfast."

"I thought you didn't hear me," she murmured, looking down as she lied.

"If the Guardian can protect her, doesn't that make her on the Civilian side?" 5 asked. "Creator, if she can be protected, does that make her innocent?"

[No. The Guadian will choose someone to protect, but if that person is a Murderer, then it will be useless.]

"So either she's lying about her doorknob being turned, or she is innocent," Sophie concluded.

"Do you have a role?" 1 asked.

She saw Eli subtly nodding his head and Daphne whispered softly, "Yes, I do."

"I believe her," 1 said.

"Hmm. Assuming you're telling the truth, you're either a Murderer, the Detective, or a Twin," 5 noted. "Which one are you?"

"I-" Daphne closed her eyes. "I can't say."

"Why not?" Sophie demanded. "Why can't you?"

"I don't want to be targeted!" Daphne snapped. "If I'm not a Murderer, then being a special role will mean I'll most likely be targeted! Now the Murderers already know I'm of a special role, and I'm in danger because the Murderers will want to get rid of the special role players first!"

"Hey, it's okay," Kiana stroked Daphne's back. "I'm sure whoever the Guardian is will protect you, Daphne."

"Yeah, whoever is the Guardian will probably protect you," William patted Daphne on the back. "Don't worry too much about it."

Daphne whimpered, tears falling out of her eyes as Kiana and William comforted her. She was trying to kill them. They shouldn't be so nice to her! Why did they have to be so nice to her?

That night, Eli and Daphne walked out at eleven-thirty. Eli glared at her, saying, "You'd better not pull the stunt you did yesterday. Got it?"

Daphne gulped and nodded.

Eli tossed her a new towel mask and said, "We're going to kill Mia."

"Why?" Daphne asked, putting on the towel mask.

"I would have chosen 1, who's acting like the Detective, but I'm worried the Guardian thinks that as well. They might have chosen to protect you, but I can't be sure, and I'm not wasting the chance. I have a suspicion about Mia, but you don't need to know what it is."

Daphne didn't say anything as they reached Mia's door, or how Eli went in saw Mia awake, and slit Mia's throat with another kitchen knife he must have smuggled. Once the deed was done, Daphne hurried back to her room and threw herself on the bed. She couldn't bear to think about it, for all the murders that she had helped out in. But she still couldn't bring herself to tell anyone.

'4 innocent people have already died. What's the point now? If you tell them, you're just going to get voted out. You might as well just stay alive.' That was what the voice in her head kept telling her. She shut her eyes, hoping to chase away her thoughts by getting some rest.
