Chapter 13

"What are the rules of this challenge?" Kiana asked warily. They had all gotten used to the fact that on every floor, at least one player would die, so they were wary of what this game would bring.

[Save Yourself will last for one hour. Soon, the floor will be flooded by killers and murderers who have been given the death sentence. They will attempt to kill you, and you must survive the next one hour. You're not allowed to leave the floor or bar the door. If by the end, everyone survived, two floors will be unlocked instead of one. Also, if every single killer is killed within one hour, then an extra floor will be unlocked, which means you would have unlocked three floors. The game will commence in five minutes. Until then, you're not allowed to leave this floor.]

"I don't want to kill anybody," Daphne whimpered.

"Well, you'd better survive," Dave said. "I'm not losing a chance to skip two death games because you die or because you were too afraid to kill one of the killers."

"What are we going to attack them with?" Kiana asked. "I mean, I'm sure they'll have weapons and we can take it from them, but it wouldn't be that easy."

"Here." The four turned to Eli whose arms were filled with medical supplies. He passed them the scissors and scalpels and metal trays and knives. "At least you'll have some form of protection this way. You can use the trays as a shield and the other sharp things to stab killers."

He grabbed some of the nearby gauzes and started wrapping them near the front of the door.

"What are you doing?" William asked. "We're not supposed to bar the door."

"I'm not doing that." Elu finished tying a knot on the gauze. "If the killers run it, they'll run into the gauze. It should slow them down a bit. It won't be long, but anything is better than nothing. Now help me push these beds."

The other four helped Eli push some beds over so that they could duck behind the beds. "We can use this for a little cover against gunfire. When they attack, some of them will most likely have some good weapons. We can take that from them and use it against the rest of the killers. Oh, and any of you find any bullets for a Glock G17, give them to me unless you have a Glock G17 to load. Also, when the first few killers enter and die, drag their bodies behind our makeshift shield so we can search them for weapons."

"Why?" Daphne started to ask, but just then, there was a loud bang and the door to the floor flew open.

The five of them saw the killers run into the gauze before tearing it open. There were two killers. They spotted them and ran over, but before they could take more than a few steps, Eli pulled out a pistol from under his jacket and shot both of them in their heads.

The four were gaping lightly as Eli grabbed their bodies and dragged them back to search for weapons. "How did you get a gun?" Dave asked.

"I'll tell you if we survive," Eli answered. "Now, help me search, please?"

All of them started patting down the killers, finding two revolvers on them. Eli picked one of them and said, "You guys decide who gets the second gun, I'll set up the bodies. I can hear other killers coming." As if on cue, there were some thumping noises of people running up the stairs.

"One of you should take it," Daphne shuddered. "I really don't want to kill people if necessary."

William and Dave looked at each other, seeming to have a quiet battle before Kiana cleared her throat. "I can take it. I've played plenty of video games before, so I can aim the gun."

"I doubt you've ever used a real gun before," Dave snarked.

"Have you?" Kiana retorted.

"Yes, actually. My father is a hunter, so he's taught me how to use guns and rifles."

Kiana frowned but let Dave take the gun. Eli ran back and hissed, "Hurry up, they're coming! Find somewhere to hide so that you can secretly attack them!"

The four scrambled to find somewhere to hide so that they could ambush the killers while Eli stood next to the door. There were a few thuds before a yell as some killers saw the dead bodies. They charged in without a thought and Eli shot them dead with a second Glock G17. Before he could take anything from their bodies, however, more killers flooded in. They almost immediately spotted Eli and started shooting at him, prompting him to hold up his own metal tray for cover as he ran. The first of the killers were stabbed with knives as William and Kiana had managed to sneak behind them. From behind the bed, Dave fired a few shots with his revolver, killing more killers. However, the more killers they seemed to take down, the more poured back through the doors. They ran in, yelling and firing handguns and rifles, swinging axes and swords and clubs and maces. Lucky for them, none of the killers were really aiming and were just wildly shooting, so they blended in with the mass of killers and managed to avoid being killed because the other killers around them were shot down by the wild firing and swinging blades.

Daphne was hidden in a corner, too afraid to go out and kill anyone. Just then, a killer spotted her and ran at her, raising a dagger to stab her. Daphne held her tray up, not wanting to retaliate, but before the killer could reach her, he was shot down by Eli.

"You okay?" Eli asked. "You have to get fighting. Not wanting to kill someone is not worth dying for."

"I-" Daphne started, but a killer ran at them, brandishing a mace. Eli pulled out a kitchen knife and stabbed the man straight in his chest. He quickly searched the man before pulling out two items: a stun gun and a taser.

"Here," he passed them to Daphne. "Since you're not comfortable with killing, just taser or stun them."

With that, Eli disappeared into the crowd. Daphne stayed in her corner, stunning the killers who were attacking her friends and Dave so that they could kill them easily.

After what felt like forever, the waves of killers finally subsided. Eli had taken down most of them, seemingly skilled in killing. Dave had shot down many, though he had gotten a nasty gash on his stomach. Kiana and William had gotten a little bruised up but managed to take out quite a few as well. Daphne was the only one who was okay.

"Daphne, can you treat their wounds?" Eli asked.

"Yes," she nodded, moving closer to them.

"Okay. You three, sit on the beds and let Daphne treat your wounds." Eli started piling up all the bodies of the killers.

Once he had a pile of bodies, Eli poured bottle after bottle of rubbing alcohol over the pile before lighting a fire with a match he had taken off a killer. He fed the flames more alcohol and linen sheets, increasing the heat of the flames. There were a few screams from the surviving killers as they were burned alive. After at least ten minutes, it seemed that all the killers had either been burned to death or died on smoke inhalation. Soon, Creator spoke.

[One hour is up. Save Yourself is over. All players have survived, and all killers are dead. Three floors have been unlocked. All players can now go to floor ten.]
