RECONNAISANCE AND ZONE CONTROL

EXTRASENSORY PERCEPTION AND STEALTH

When a Lion spots prey, it crouches and conceals its presence in the surrounding grass/undergrowth.

Lions take their stamina into account when Hunting so they must always know the Maximum Speed Of Their Prey in advance before the Hunt can begin.

Lions attempt to conserve energy during Hunts so they must close the distance between themselves and their prey as much as possible before they are sighted.

By observing the Movement Of The Blades Of Grass in response to the Movements Of The Wind and the Movement Of The Wind on their Whiskers, they can sense changes to the direction of Airflow.

This cues them in on the position of prey and thus allows them to approach Prey from downwind. Doing this prevents the Wind from carrying the Scent Of The Lion towards Prey but will instead amplify their ability to Sense Prey by carrying the Scent Of Prey towards them for as Long as the Position of Prey Upwind is Linear in Relation to the Position Of The Lion downwind.

Only when all these conditions have been fulfilled does an Experienced Lion commence a Hunt.

RECONNAISANCE AND ZONE CONTROL TECHNIQUES

SCENT OF THE LION

Like all Territorial Animals, Lions must establish their own territory to differentiate it from that of other Wildlife.

They do this by spreading their Scent over their Territory.

The intensity of their Scent can cue prey and other Predators in on the Physical State Of The Lion such as its Strength and Health as well as how dangerous it is.

At times, it only takes the Scent Of The Lion to drive Prey and potential Predators away from their Territory.

ROAR OF THE LION

The Roar Of The Lion is usually meant to intimidate Prey and Potential Predators.

Like their Scent, the intensity Of The Roar can cue Prey and Potential Predators in on the Strength Of The Lion.

The ability of Prey and Potential Predators to deduce the Strength Of The Lion from its Roar lies in the fact that the Roar is an expression of the Lung Capacity Of The Lion which in turn is indicative of the Range, Energy, Stamina and Speed Of The Lion; breath and Energy go hand in hand.

Usually, when dealing with Prey or Predators within their immediate vicinity, the Lion roars facing its Prey or Potential Predator. If the opponent flees, the fight usually ends there. If the opponent does not flee, it is usually either a case of ignorance, inexperience of equivalent strength on the part of the Prey or Potential Predator. In such cases, it comes down to Physical Prowess in Combat and the fight degenerates into an exchange of blows.

When a Lion observes that a Predator is encroaching on its territory but cannot identify the location of the encroacher, the Lion roars facing the Ground instead of straight ahead.

This Roar Technique instead of generating a Linear Soundwave generates an Omnidirectional Soundwave.

The Echoes generated by the Soundwave as well as the Sounds generated by any nearby Wildlife in response to the Roar can allow the Lion to pinpoint the location of most Living Creatures within its territory and thus Zone in on the encroacher.

Predators and Prey that are intimidated by the intensity of the Lion's Roar will usually flee the territory.

The Lion will then scout its territory for a few more days after the Roar and if there is nothing indicative of the presence of an encroacher such as the remains of dead wildlife, the Lion will know that the encroacher has fled.

If signs of the encroacher remain, the Lion will relentlessly hunt it down.

COORDINATION

Lions usually hunt in Prides, in other words they usually Hunt in Groups.

Lions will try to minimize the length of the Hunt for as much as possible so they utilize a combination of Coordination and Ambush Tactics.

A few highly skilled, usually, the most highly skilled Lions in the Pride will conceal their presence in the grass and thus mask their locations and positions. There, they lie in wait.

Less experienced Lions will pursue the prey by utilizing a combination of Coordination and Zone Control to drive the Prey towards the Skilled Lions who have concealed their Presence and lie in wait.

By the time the Prey spots the concealed Lions, they have already been hemmed in on all sides and are caught in a Pincer Attack between the Highly Experienced and Inexperienced Lions.

When the Prey falls within the Strike Zone/Kill Zone Of The Experienced Lions, the Offensive/Ambush begins.

THE OFFENSIVE

If the Prey is larger than the Lion, the Lion will first attempt to immobilize and weigh the Prey down with its own weight by clinging tightly to the part of the Prey its Centre Of Gravity is weakest in.

If they do not resort to this, then they will usually attack the Limbs Of The Prey to immobilize it.

The Lion may also cling to the Throat Of Prey to gradually sap their energy by curtailing their ability to breathe. This in effect nullifies the range of the prey and saps their Physical Strength. (Lions do not usually rely on this Method though, I just want you to know that it is also one of the Offensive Techniques in their Arsenal).

The usual Finishing Move (Hissatsu Waza) that delivers the final blow is when the Lion snaps the Spine Of its Prey effectively rendering it immobile and helpless.

Only when the Prey is completely paralyzed (by absolute Terror) then and only then…does the Meal commence.
