6 Chapter 5 Talking Bakugan

As for why some people kept their cards closed... well, the thing was that such a card could be thrown out as a gate card and summon a Bakugan straight into battle and surprise the enemy quite a bit during the battle. But more often than not, something like excitement made kids want to open the card and think about it again, because a closed card was very valuable, and an open card... depending on what would fall out.

I was both willing and unwilling.

I opened the battlefield and entered the frozen space.

"Activate ability cards, open gate cards!"

Two previously closed cards glowed. One in purple and the other in green.

Two orbs flew out of them, a Darkus Juggernaut and a Ventus Centipoid?

"Well, that's unusual."

The guy looked over the revealed cards: both were abilities. Darkus's was great fall, Ventus's was reverse thrust.

The first card allowed him to nullify his opponent's goal card.

The second, on the other hand, gave the ability to return your own Bakugan in battle to your hand.

I shifted my gaze to the bakugans, then sat down and started counting all of my possessions.

Laying out all of my available bakugans on the ground.

3 Chaos, 2 Darkus, 1 Ventus, 1 Pyrus, 1 Sabterra.

"Judging by what's falling out, I'm just destined to become a master Darkus..."

Before I could finish my monologue, I saw that the green Bakugan suddenly rolled... by himself....

He fell silent.

The bakugan opened up, exposing the Centipoid inside.

The one looked around, and then noticed me. He didn't pay much attention to me at first, but when I blinked, he curled up into a ball in terror and started rolling away.

After about a meter and a half, the bakugan opened up again and looked at me.

"Are you alive?" I asked, already mentally kicking myself for asking the question stupidly.

The one seemed to understand my words and nodded quickly.

That surprised me a lot, but what happened next... I was shocked. No, it was as if I had fallen out of this world, even though it was already a different world.

What was it? It was simple.

"Who are you? Where am I?"

Japanese language... bakugan... speaking...

One more time. Toy. Says...

"Why aren't you talking? You can talk, can't you?"

"Ah... ahem... well, I..."

Where to start... right!

"My name is Shinji, and I am your owner... ahem... master," I almost hesitated to say owner.

There was no telling how the huge and powerful (under certain conditions, of course) monster would take it.

"Master? Where am I?"

"On planet Earth."

I then proceeded to tell him how one day we all had cards sprinkled on us, we didn't know what it was... *ahem*. Okay, just normal telling.

That one seemed to be taken aback by this, and then a bit confused about where we were 'now', since this place wasn't much of a planet.

I took all the Bakugans and cards, and then closed the battlefield.

When we were transported back to Earth, the Bakugan's surprise became even greater.

"So you're special?" I asked him, then decided to add. "Since you can talk?"

"А? Everyone can do that..." said Centipoid.

"But they're always silent..." I pointed out righteously.

"Get the Bakugans," he asked, deciding to test something out.

I complied and pulled out the first one I saw, a Sabterra Robothalian.

"Are you really silent all the time?" the green Bakugan asked the brown one.

The one didn't reveal himself, but, oh wonder, he answered!

"I obey my instincts!"

"Instincts... what instincts?" the green bakugan still didn't understand anything.

"..."

Silence.

Of course. Apparently that's all they're capable of.

"And?" I asked, obviously demanding an answer.

"What? He's talking, I heard it myself."

"But not like you..."

The green Bakugan raised his head upwards.

"I don't understand."

"What are you planning on doing? This is the first time I've met someone like you."

"And what do you suggest for me to do?"

I was quiet for a bit, mulling over his words.

"We, on Earth, have invented a game called Bakugan, the point is a battle of the Bakugans in which we determine the strongest Bakugans and their masters."

"Battle? Very good, I'm with you."

"А?"

"If you're my master, then I'll stay with you. You promised a battle, didn't you?"

"Umm... well, yes," the part about not having chosen my element yet, I kept silent.

I figured I'd have to ask about all sorts of things.

"Look, I'd like to know... what happened to get you here, where you're from, and why you need a battle so badly?"

The one apparently found my demands reasonable. After all, I had told him a lot about myself and the world, and he had only listened.

"I am from a world called Westroy."

"Westroy?"

"Yes, a world divided into 6 parts, each part representing a different element, where the Bakugans of a certain element live."

"How did you get here?"

"How would I know? I was just drifting amidst a storm in my home element when I suddenly found myself in this humiliating sphere position."

I was slowly beginning to feel my worldview slowly crumbling.

"Okay, let's say. Why the battle?"

"That's a strange question. We always have a battle raging, don't you?"

"Are you always fighting?"

"It's... no, I often flee, after all, I don't have wings, but battle..." his yellow eyes seemed to sparkle. "No way without it."

"I get it," I didn't.

After a little silence, I asked something else....

"One last thing, do you have a name?"

"Centipoid I...

I decided to cut him short.

"No," I opened my phone and typed in Centipoid's name and showed it to him. "If you're a Centipoid, so is he, but only you're different, you know?" I tried to give him a sense of why the name was considered important.

"Ah... well, since it's so important to you... I'll make it up now... oh, Vesta!"

"Vesta, is that your name?" I asked, wanting to make sure.

"Yeah, cool idea right?" the bakugan said, and I felt annoyed.

"Alright, I'll introduce you."

After that, we talked all evening. About all sorts of things. Sure, most of the conversation was about both worlds, but still, it... wasn't boring.

I soon went to bed with thoughts of which element I should choose.

Of course, the appearance of a talking Bakugan in no way determined my choice.

I still liked the same power Darkus had suggested.

And so I fell asleep.

In my dream, I felt like I was on a gate card that showed the 6 elements and arrow directions.

I realized a little inside and went back to my earlier thoughts of which element to choose.

Alas, I could not keep my concentration for long and flew away into the bizarre and fabulous adventure of the dream.
