Chapter 37

"What?!" Shannon cried,

"I can take care of myself. If you have ask someone to pick me up, why not mom?"

"Shannon, no complaints. Your mother will be staying at home. As a housewife does. Amanda is more responsible than you are. Besides, it's not like it'll affect your reputation. No complaints. No disobeying. Is that clear?" Simeon boomed.

"Y-yes father." Shannon stuttered, not even daring to say a word.

"Amanda, are you listening?" Simeon asked,

"Hmm." Amanda nodded.

'I hope she doesn't make a scene.' Shannon clenched her fist.

Ding dong

Simeon answered the door.

"Oh... dad. I didn't know you were coming." Simeon almost stumbled,

"Oh no. I just came here for my grandchild's school updates. Hadn't heard from her for a while."

Simeon made way as they went to the kitchen.

"Grandfather! You came!" Amanda called cheerfully,

"Welcome... umm... sir." Shannon went to greet him but was unsure what to call him since he disagreed with them. Except for Amanda.

She wanted Amanda dead.

After every best thing that happened, she can't bear that Amanda is always better than her.

Even if Simeon favors her more, Amanda always wins no matter what.

It's like Amanda herself is more powerful.

Shannon hated the idea/thought about it.

Even though it's true.

"Have a seat, Mr. Auriga." Sabrina offered,

"Yes, thank you." Nicholas sat at the opposite end.

"So what about the updates of your grandchildren?" Simeon asked,

"Yeah. I'd like to hear it from them." Nicholas sipped his coffee.

It took Shannon a moment to realize what that meant.

"I'll go first." Shannon cleared her throat.

She stood up with an arrogant expression.

"I got into the top 3 results of the exam." She said smugly,

"Wow! That's awesome darling. Not even I could make it that good." Sabrina clapped her hands,

"I'm so proud of you Shannon." Simeon smiled.

Nicholas nodded approvingly.

Shannon beamed with pride.

"And you Amanda?" Nicholas turned to her.

'I wonder how you're gonna beat me this time.' Shannon looked at her.

'Wait. I have to keep my cool. I got a feeling she'll have a counterattack.'

"The usual." Amanda smiled,

"That's good." Nicholas grinned.

"What do you mean usual?" Simeon scolded angrily,

"Shannon got the top 3 in the results. What else do you have? And you calmly say just the usual?"

"Simeon." Nicholas said. Dead calm.

"Dad, how can you keep covering her. Shannon tried her very best for this. And all Amanda could do is calmly have a common result? Is she even trying to prove her worth?" Simeon explained, exasperated.

'Maybe if I could keep persuading him that Shannon is better.' He thought.

"I AM already worth. Trying to prove it is my dear sister's job. Since she's still a bumpkin here." Amanda rolled her eyes,

"And maybe if you don't know what I mean about the 'usual', I suggest you think before you act."

Amanda looked at Nicholas.

"She means 'the usual' is that she's still the top 1 tier, and nothing new," Nicholas explained.

'I knew it! It's best to wait for the moment to happen. If I acted up that time, I would've been totally screwed.' Shannon felt relieved.

"That's so good sister! I will try to surpass you next time. And make myself worth." Shannon beamed.

"But darling, you don't need to prove your worth. You're already it." Sabrina said softly,

"No mother. My sister is right. Just because I'm now part of this family doesn't mean I'm already worth it." Shannon held her mother's hand.
