1 Introducing: Yair Kibulan

In the darkness of the sky, a bright light could be seen illuminating like a ray of sunshine. It was a burning house with its structure almost destroyed.

Yair's eyes widened as a man took another step closer to him, the fire making it too bright to make out his face.

Behind the man laid Yair's mother, blood spreading on the wooden floor from her lifeless body. Yair gasped as the man reached his arm towards him, getting ready to grab Yair.

Just then Yair awoke from his nightmare, his body covered in sweat. The same nightmare was repeating itself more often than before.

(I must be going crazy)

He thought to himself as he got up. Yair was not your average sixteen-year-old teenager. His life was going up in a linear line until a fate-changing event. The death of his parents.

Yair knew nothing about who had done it and why, all he remembered was the man. During their funeral, he had cried all his tears out until there were no more left.

He had inherited all his parent's possessions, but due to his age, they were all kept away in a warehouse. That event had happened more than five years ago.

He now lived in a small house provided by the government. His father was someone very important to them, and this was their way of thanking him for his services.

Yair exited his house on his way to school, his dark hair covering his eyes. Before he even had the chance to step into the school grounds, he was slammed to the floor by someone.

'Cough!'

It was Gio who was towering above him, the 'undefeatable bully.'

"Watcha doing, hugging the floor?" Gio snickered as he mocked Yair.

In a heartbeat, Yair was back on his feet with his fists raised in front of him. His eyes focused on Gio.

"Ha-ha, are you challenging me?"

Yair stayed quiet, waiting for an opportunity to strike. Lucky for him, it wasn't that hard to find one.

Gio was a typical bully who fed his ego by putting others below him. This made him very predictable for someone like Yair.

So when Gio tried to sucker-punch Yair in the face, he was surprised to see himself lying on the floor.

Gio let out a gasp of pain as Yair kicked him in the stomach. Now he was the one standing above.

"To think that I was beaten by you in my first two years at this school."

Yair had been bullied by Gio and his friends ever since he arrived at the school. Being beaten and ordered around, Yair stood up to them every time but never managed to win.

During the summer, he made up his mind to not go through the same thing. By no means was he a weak-minded person. His childhood trauma had forced him to brave through his troubles.

Every day of his summer was used on improving himself. He did pushups until his arms creaked and ran until his stomach felt like bursting.

(And now, no one will be able to beat me)

Yair could never get away from the bullying before because of how much the teachers despised the students. They wouldn't even lend out a helping hand.

In fact, they would even go as far as to encourage a hierarchy to form between the students.

This allowed them to lay back and watch the students keep each other in order.

The school was known for its bad reputation, and due to Yair's grades after his depressed phase, it was the only school that would accept him.

He planned on climbing to the top after being on the bottom for so long. And to do that, he would need to beat the self-proclaimed 'King of the School.'

He walked through the crowded hallways, his head bent down towards the ground.

(I need to stand up tall, walk with confidence!)

Just then, he was bumped on the shoulder. Looking up, he saw another one of his bullies laughing at him.

His mind blurred as he remembered all the things he went through because of them, his head filling up with anger.

When his collar was gripped by the bully, Yair immediately punched him across the hallway.

BAM!

He crashed on the wall, coughing loudly in surprise. Looking up, he could see Yairs eyes filled with murderous intent.

The bully shivered as he stared at the ground in defeat.

A crowd formed around them, more surprised than the bully himself. Not daring to look at Yair, the bully searched around for help, afraid of what's to come.

Yair walked away as he did not like being crowded around. He only had bad experiences with them.

He was now standing in front of the door that led to the rooftop. This was the place where the 'king' always hung around during classes.

(In and out, it will be over soon and I'll be at the top)

Yair took a deep breath and kicked the door open. Unaware of his current strength, the door blew off its hinges and at the foot of the king.

Yair stepped toward him with a death stare in his eyes.

During his first week, he was forced to be the personal servant of the king. He was beaten for their fun and enjoyment.

They even went as far as to scar him with a burning knife.

Yair ripped off the bandage on his hand, revealing a bloody symbol in bright red. A symbol received to those with the lowest rank in the school.

"Remember me?"

"W-what do you want?"

The king asked in a shaky voice as he stared at the metal door on the ground.

"Revenge, what else?"

Gazing around, Yair noticed two other schoolmates creeping up behind him.

The king grinned slightly as he stepped towards Yair, forming a fist in his hand.

"I have many enemies and people who hate me. I'm sorry, but I can't seem to remember who you are."

The king said in a sarcastic tone, signaling the others behind Yair to attack.

"You'll remember me this time."

Yair stated as he spun himself and kicked one of the bullies behind him. In a flash, he pounced on the other one sending him crashing to the floor.

The king stared in awe as Yair knocked out the other two in less than three seconds.

Yair's fighting style was self-taught, most coming from video games and anime movements.

During his depressed phase, video games and anime were the only things that kept him going.

And now, during difficult events of his life, he would consider them as a video game challenge or a character arc for himself.

(This is the part where the player defeats the tyrant and becomes the new king!)

The king refused to believe Yair of being so strong, thinking it was just the bullies who were weak. But the metal floor made him think twice.

Swish!

Yair easily evaded the fist aimed at his face. He slammed his fist into the king's stomach, making him cough in pain.

Swish, Swish, Pow!

Yair was dodging all the attacks and counterattacking at an incredible speed.

(Speed has always been my strongest stat, no one beats me in speed!)

Yair's fists began moving at a faster pace to the point where they became a blur to the king.

Pow, Pow, POW!!!

The king laid on the ground, his face a bloody mess. The other bullies finally recovered, and upon seeing their leader defeated, ran away.

Huff, huff

(Too many fights today, I'm feeling really tired)

Later that day, rumors of Yair taking the new position of 'king' had already spread around. The terrified looks of the bullies he had beaten further proved to the assumption.

The cherry on top of Yair's coronation came during lunch when the king tried to fight him again.

"Get up and fight!"

Yair stayed in his seat peacefully eating his lunch. He kept ignoring the taunts.

"I bet you think you're all high and mighty now, don't you! Keep acting like this and I'll make sure you end up like your friend Dra-"

Yair stood up abruptly, making the king flinch in surprise. Yair slowly walked towards him, a carton of milk in his hands.

A feeling of fear washed over him, making him see Yair as a complete monster. With his monstrous figure and look in his eyes, the king couldn't help but tremble in fear.

Standing in front of him was someone to be feared. Standing in front of Yair was someone to be stepped on.

Yair raised the carton and poured its content on top of the king's head, officially dethroning him.

With this, he walked away with confidence and authority, leaving everyone shocked by what had just happened.

For the rest of the day, no one dared to challenge him or get in his way.

To further set his new status, Yair went around the school beating anyone who had ever wronged him, leaving a trail of blood and crying students on the floor.

Doing this, he gained a nickname for himself. Around the schools and districts, he was known as the 'Silent Assassin.'

His speed complimented his title, for every opponent he went against was gracefully defeated in less than ten seconds, and he was gone as soon as the fight was finished as if he were an assassin.

He would succeed in finishing them without taking any hits or making any unnecessary noises, thus giving him the 'silent part.'

This went on for several days. Fighting everywhere, Yair would come home with his hands bruised.

Yair stared at his almost empty room. The only thing catching his eyes was his monitor, which held all of his precious games.

(I haven't played in a long while. I should probably stop with all the fighting and have a day off for games)

Scrolling around, Yair noticed something. His favorite game was no longer on the most popular game tab.

It was now a game called 'B.E.T.A.'. A full dive VR game with amazing graphics and gameplay were the descriptions added by the editors.

(The beta version of the game will be open to playing in three days!?)

The hype for the game was incredibly high, and Yair didn't wait for a second to sign up for the beta.

Late in the night, while Yair was doing his daily exercises, he heard a knock on his door.

(Who could be knocking at my door at this hour?)

Yair could only think of one possible person but doubted it. He cracked open the door slightly but couldn't see anyone.

Opening the door fully, a rectangular box was revealed to be on his mat. Without a second thought, he picked it up and went back inside.

The box had a sort of goggle, cords, and a letter. Yair reached towards the letter first and began reading.

'Congratulations Mr. Kibulan, you have been chosen as one of the players to join in our beta tests for the game. Please join on the twenty-third at 3:00 P.M. using the VR goggles provided. Please read the manual carefully and the rules for the game. When finished, join the game and agree to the policy(make sure to do this before the event starts). After that, you will be signed out and will be able to re-enter when the event starts.'

Yair was surprised at how fast he had been chosen for the beta and how the items necessary had already been provided.

After reading through the manual, he put on the goggles. As soon as he did, his muscles began to relax.

He soon felt himself being sucked into the game, getting closer to a screen. Suddenly, he was in another room with a table in the center.

A single piece of paper and pen laid there, waiting for Yair to sign it. He picked up the pen and began scribbling down until he reached a question he had to think about.

(A character name? I could use my gamer tag since it identifies me perfectly)

He scribbled down his answer and the paper disappeared as soon as he was finished.

A screen popped up in front of him.

[Player Ayir is now officially in the event! :)]

He was now back in his room, still filled with excitement from the game. His geeky self taking over him, eliminating all of his negative feelings.

(I can't wait for the beta!!!)
