7 Chapter 7: Funds

Arthas took a deep breath, steeling himself for his father's reaction.

He couldn't simply tell his father the truth that he needed to prepare for a future invasion by the undead.

No, that would be met with disbelief and scorn.

And at only five years old, there is no way King Terenas would allow him to take on such a dangerous task.

Arthas is seen as too young and inexperienced to have any authority or influence over important matters such as creating a defensive base and training an army.

And if his plan were to be revealed, it could result in shame and humiliation for not just himself, but his family too.

With every second that passed, the weight of responsibility on Arthas's small shoulders grew heavier.

Suddenly the system came to life once more.

A bright holographic display materialized in front of him.

Arthas's breath got caught in his throat as he laid eyes on the quest before him.

He finally received his first quest after a long time.

Coincidentally it happened right after he contemplated of responding back to his father's question.

Not only that the rewards for completing this quest are very generous.

1,500 Gold is not a small amount, that alone is enough to buy several buildings in the Capital City of Lordaeron.

Besides that, there is a reward about a random skill too.

This prodded Arthas to think of an answer to both respond back to his father and receive the quest's rewards.

Then in a span of one minute.

A mischievous glint sparked in his eyes as he had finally devised a brilliant idea.

He rehearsed them over in his mind countless times after weighing the risks and potential consequences that could follow after.

His heart was pounding with nerves and excitement as he prepared to present his carefully crafted excuse.

"Father," he began, projecting confidence and conviction.

"I have come to a realization that demands urgent action. It is time for me to embark on a journey that will greatly benefit our kingdom."

The King's eyes flickered with curiosity at his son's bold statement.

Arthas took a deep breath before continuing, laying out his proposal with precision and passion.

"A journey? And how exactly will this benefit our kingdom?" the King inquired, his voice laced with skepticism.

Arthas paused, choosing his words carefully before delivering his response.

"You see, Father, in order to fulfill my duties as your heir, I need to expand my knowledge and understanding of our land and its people."

"I propose that I travel across our territory, visiting various towns and cities to learn about their unique situations and customs. This will allow me to better serve our people and lead our kingdom towards prosperity."

He held his breath as he awaited his father's response, feeling as though the weight of the world rested on his shoulders.

Terenas' eyes narrowed in contemplation as he considered his son's suggestion.

The silence in the room was palpable, almost suffocating.

Finally, after what felt like an eternity, Terenas gave a slow nod.

"Your idea is sound, my son. Such a journey will bring you new knowledge and experiences. It is a worthy endeavor that I believe you should embark upon."

A wave of relief washed over Arthas, his tense muscles releasing as he realized that his excuse had successfully fooled his father.

[Congratulations! You have completed your quest.]

Then an uncontrollable surge of excitement coursed through him after heard the notification.

A wide grin breaking across his face as he bowed deeply in gratitude.

His father nodded with understanding and approval as he responded, "For the conveniency of your travels, I'll arrange for someone to send over some gold on your way out."

"Thank you, Father," Arthas exclaimed earnestly, feeling grateful for this opportunity. "I'll use it well."

With a wave from the King, Arthas turned to leave, his heart overflowing with joy.

He's now one step closer to his goal.

Arthas took a moment to catch his breath as he arrived outside the doors.

Standing just outside the imposing gates of the castle, Arthas bid farewell to his mother and sister.

He could feel tears streaming down his face as he tightly hugged them both, his heart heavy with sorrow at the thought of leaving them behind.

Growing up with this new family of his had forged deep bonds that he never thought possible.

They had loved him unconditionally and provided for his every need, something he had lacked in his previous life.

But all of that was in the past now.

As he promised to write to them often, his mother reminded him to take care of himself on the journey ahead.

His sister, however, couldn't hide her envy for his freedom and opportunity to travel and experience new things.

She hugged him tightly and wished him luck, asking that he bring her back something special from his travels.

Arthas smiled through his tears, determined to make his mother and sister proud on this long and difficult journey ahead.

He knew it was his duty to fulfill, and he hoped that his efforts would help secure a brighter future for them all.

With one last embrace, Arthas said his final goodbyes and set off on his journey, determined to make the most of every moment along the way.

...

The western Eastweald, a bustling and vibrant region in the northern kingdom of Lordaeron, was home to the bustling city of Andorhal.

Here, among the busy streets and bustling markets, a group of 5 fully-stocked horse-drawn caravans made their way through the throngs of people.

Each caravan was led by a coachman and accompanied by 3 Footmen, their armor gleaming in the sunlight.

In total, there were 15 Footmen stationed to guard the valuable cargo in each caravan.

Riding alongside them were 3 Captain, their flowing robes concealing their swords and armor.

At the front of the group rode Arthas, the Crown Prince of Lordaeron himself.

His small figure disguised as a merchant, escorted and guarded by the Knights throughout his journey.

As they traveled, one of the Captains, Falric, spurred his horse forward to ride alongside Arthas.

With a sense of curiosity, he asked, "My Prince, if you don't mind me asking..."

Arthas gave a small nod, indicating for him to continue.

"I know it's none of my business, but why did Your Highness purchase such a large amount of lumber?" Captain Falric couldn't help but ask about their mysterious cargo.

With a cryptic smile, Arthas replied, "You'll understand why when we get there."

Realizing that the Prince had no intention of revealing more information, Captain Falric decided to let it go.

After all, his duty was simply to accompany and guard him on this expedition.

As they continued on their journey at a steady pace, the group passed the time with idle chatter and occasional laughter.

Little did they know what Arthas had in store for them at their final destination.
