Chapter 20

Awerkok was on a mission for the supernatural operation to arrest Gid'on. The last time Awerkok had done something like this he hadn't had any success at all. In fact, he had thought that maybe his failure this time would be the final straw that pushed the man over the edge. As usual, things didn't end up going according to his plan however and as such Awerkok had ended up doing more damage than good.

Although that had certainly not changed his feelings regarding the case. As a matter of fact, his feelings were beginning to slowly change towards the man he had come to know as Gid'on, and he wasn't sure which direction the change had taken since Gid'on had begun acting differently towards himself and the other members of the team. Perhaps it was the sudden realization that Gid'on had given to everyone that he was capable of understanding human emotions better than anybody else – a discovery Awerkok hadn't been expecting at all - perhaps it was because of his recent change in behaviour, but whatever the reason behind it, he couldn't shake off the uneasy feeling that began building within him whenever Gid'on was around. He wasn't sure exactly when he started noticing that. Probably after he had discovered the truth about Gid'on killing his father. That revelation had shaken Awerkok deeply and left him unable to believe his own eyes and ears. Yet it had forced the man he had grown used to seeing as his enemy back into view. For once, Awerkok had found himself wishing that he hadn't lost control so badly that he had caused such a mess. Unfortunately, he had still lost control. And despite it all, Awerkok still had no idea how Gid'on managed to kill his father and why he did so. It didn't make sense. Why did he kill a man who had meant so much to him? What reason did he have to murder a fellow human and a man who was practically family, who had given birth to him and raised him? What did he have against humans so greatly as to put them in such a bad light? There must be something that Awerkok did not understand about the situation to explain how Gid'on managed to do what he had done and yet why he did so.

In any case, he had no intention of getting involved in the matter any further. After all, even though he still wanted to investigate the mystery, he knew that there was nothing he could possibly do. Whatever Gid'on had wanted to accomplish, he was definitely capable of accomplishing it without having Awerkok to aid him in doing so. No, what he needed to focus on was finding a way to remove his powers from him. That was the most urgent problem, and the only thing Awerkok needed to solve, as far as he was concerned. That was the reason he was here on this side of the ocean, waiting impatiently for Gid'on to show up.

And so for almost two hours he remained sitting on the bed, looking out of the windows as best he could, although it wasn't much better, as he could only see part of the beach and the houses next door to them, whereas at the same time he could clearly see the people who passed by, each of whom, for various reasons, seemed very determined and anxious to get home, as it appeared that tonight would be the night when things might get out of hand. It would take someone exceptionally bold and courageous to do what it took to achieve what had already been achieved.

He heard the sound of a door opening somewhere near the bathroom and then closing again. Moments later, a knock on the door drew his attention away from the window, and then a moment later, he saw the door opened and the nurse entered.

"Hello, Mr Saito," she greeted with a small smile and a nod when her gaze fell on him. "How are you holding up?"

"I'm fine", he answered with a brief smile, and she walked forward.

"That's good," she said
