When Life Changed

"You're fired," said Michael, Jonathan's boss.

"What?" said Jonathan in disbelief, "But I did my work perfectly, I worked late ours an-"

"We're going bankrupt, so we need to make cuts."

Jonathan had worked sweat and blood for his firm as a journalist, working late, researching, writing what he felt was captivating. He dedicated his life to this firm and he was thrown away without a second thought like he always was.

He thought of the times he was a kid, when he'd play soccer with all his effort but get tossed aside when a better player came.

"Come on! It's not the end of the world. You only got fired." said Jonathan's roommate when he saw Johnathan.

"How'd you know I got fired?" said Jonathan and before he could get an answer, Paul vanished in the blink of an eye.

"Holy-" Jonathan exclaimed.

It's my mind playing tricks on me again Jonathan thought. He felt great compassion for the firm and thought they valued him too but they didn't, "There's no time to sulk, Jonathan," he said to himself. Why must it be now, just before his rent and without compensation too, he needed a job fast.

He got a job after many interviews as a cashier for a clothing store downtown. Life was boring, Jonathan ached for excitement, something to make him want to get out of bed in the morning.

"I'm breaking up with you," said Mandy my girlfriend over the phone and ended the call as soon as she said it.

I didn't care for the relationship, it was as boring as the rest of my life. Finally, I had it, I quit my job and bought a ticket to Belgium after long paperwork with my immigration officer and from then on, life as I knew it, was never the same.
