Chapter 14: Umbrella II

...........

Since the Emp scream which was likely the doing of an evolved zombie or an awakener, the cell service still has yet to come back, and that doesn't seem to be related to the Emp scream... The World was quickly falling into darkness. No electricity, no cell service... No humans?

The only good thing about the explosion though was the fact that it attracted the swarm of insects' attention as they headed there.

That allowed Silver to quickly clean up the few remaining infected insects in town before returning to work, only after he made sure it was safe out there.

And so, here he was, standing before about a hundred people, the only survivors in this small town, out of roughly 12000 people, only they survived, some of them traumatized, scared, confused, and so many emotions of desperation.

"Doomsday," Silver suddenly said, attracting their attention. He did after all assemble them here to talk to them, "Unfortunately, Doomsday doesn't allow us to get lost in our emotions... If we are to survive, we have to move forward, so listen to my next words."

Silver traced his eyes about, mostly using his domain to see their expressions down to the micro level, "The town of Woodbury is now mine, and I want to build it into a sanctuary... Umbrella Sanctuary. Each and every one of you who can work will have to work, else you're welcome to leave as you are very much free to."

Silver turned his attention behind him, to the people he brought with him from the facility, all the research and their families as well as a few other individuals, "And that includes all of you. If you want to pursue some kind of higher aspiration in these days of doom, or if you don't like the way I do or I will do things, feel free to leave. Otherwise, everyone has to work."

"And you will lead us?" Someone spoke. Of course, someone spoke. There is never a shortage of brave people in Doomsday. The middle-aged man who spoke was one of the survivors of Woodbury, and from his clothes, it seems that he's a police officer.

The man was one of the few people who Silver saw no fear in their eyes, so one of them speaking out was expected. Silver just released a strange smile as he replied, "Yes."

"And who are you exactly? Can we really be assured that you'd do the right thing, huh?" The man further questioned.

"Silver, that's all you need to know about me, and no, you can't be assured I will do the right thing. That's why you can leave right about now," Silver calmly responded.

"Leave? Why would I leave my town? My home? You are the other side here, you understand?" The police officer quite aggressively responded, and he seemed to have some support from the people around him as they complained about the same thing.

Yet... Yet Silver smiled, his odd smile bringing about silence, "Indeed, I'm an outsider to this town, just like you all would've been outsiders to life if I didn't come here."

The sound of footsteps reverberated about as Silver took a step forward, then another, and another until he stood right before the now nervous and speechless police officer, "Any more complaints?"

The man opened his mouth to speak, but whatever words he had in him were stuck in his throat as he eyed Silver's very tall stature, inky eyes reeking of danger, putting so much pressure on him.

"Truly, you can leave," Silver encouraged, "I'm sure that while the police department of this town fell, some didn't, so you can try your luck out there. Even better, you can seek out the military. I saw a few convos heading into New York. Maybe you can meet up with them. They'll surely pick you up."

"..."

"No?" Silver turned around as he started explaining his plans, "We need to barricade every window and every opening of every house, shop, and facility in the town. We also need to take the highest points in the town as a watchtower. We have to watch out for the swarms."

"There are no particularly tall buildings in the town. I think we're better off building a high watchtower for maximum protection," Albert shared his thoughts.

"Let's do that," Silver nodded, "You should know the people of this town better than me, so pick out those who can help in that regard." To which, Albert nodded.

"Now, for the most important thing," Silver's eyes gleamed as he said, "Awakeners, a group of people who awakened special abilities aside from the awakening panel. According to my calculations, in a group of hundred people, there should be at least five to even ten awakeners, so show yourselves."

Silver traced his eyes about after finishing his speech, basically already determining all the awakeners in the bunch. He was just wondering, will they all show themselves on their own?

The Silver Domain is truly frightening, able to detect even the slightest changes in their expression, even the beating of their heart, and the movement of their bodies, all of which his mind seems to be able to easily analyze, especially with his hyper awareness.

"I... I'm an awakener," A young man stepped forward, followed by several others, amounting to six individuals which if we include Layla, Albert's daughter, it would amount to seven awakeners out of about a hundred people.

And after asking a few questions, mainly about their abilities, Silver realized something, his cycle of acquaintances such as Natalia, Loyd, and even Sam seem to be quite special as the norm for abilities seem to be something like enhanced strength, speed, eyesight, and so on.

Loyd's ability of decay seems to be the most special so far, aside from Silver's Silver Effect, but there was an interesting ability amidst the bunch, one that's somewhat suitable for building the wall, or at least, a preliminary version of the wall, an ability that can not only convert normal soil into very gluey mud but also control it.

After giving out a long list of information to all the survivors, regarding how zombies work, response plans in case of emergencies, and so on, only after that did Silver call off the assembly, leaving it to Albert to collect information about the survivors, in regards to what specialize in before assigning them to work.

Silver's words, of course, had a purpose, to create a drive for each individual to work together, all for the sake of themselves and their families, so was it any wonder when even the awakener with Hawkeye's ability who wasn't allowed to help at all before, was now permitted to help by his mother, although only in a very safe task, just keeping watch from the watchtower.

Everything was going smoothly, Silver made sure of it. The Umbrella was slowly but surely taking shape and he couldn't allow anything to go wrong, so he oversaw everything himself.

There were a lot, lots lots of resources in Woodbury. That's why he chose the town as a base, and those resources allowed Silver to do a lot of things that he couldn't previously do, especially since there were a few research and medical facilities in the town.

Natalia soon joining him in Woodbury took a lot of load off his shoulders as she helped him deal with things, allowing him some free time to... Well, take New York and its surroundings as his playground.
