Chapter 1: Silver I

...........

[Welcome to the game of Awakening]

[It's time for your world to awaken but at what cost? Possibility of annihilation. Survive and grow stronger for the entirety of your world relies on you]

[You have to survive three dangerous stages of the game. Either against your own or against other worlds. The winner or winners of the third stage will have their world survive. The rest shall experience annhilation]

[So let the first stage start... Doomsday]

[Awakening...]

Before the man could fully comprehend the words before him, the awakening started, making him dismayed as he felt a burst of strange energy swim through his pale body.

He felt his heart beat faster, and his blood flowing through his veins like the most ferocious of rivers, but most importantly, he felt alive, more alive than ever before.

He felt his mind clear and smooth as the entirety of his life flashed before his eyes, experiencing something akin to Panmnesia, recalling absolutely everything he once thought, felt, encountered, and experienced throughout his relatively interesting life.

Born an orphan, he had to rely solely on himself for most things, and thankfully, his relatively bright mind helped him a lot, allowing him to accumulate quite a bit of a fortune.

Yet as he entered his thirties, very little of that fortune remained. He spent more than he earned, and by a significant margin at that... Because what use is there for money for the dead?

Well, he isn't dead just yet but he might be soon. In less than a year, he will likely die for he has brain cancer, and one of the most deadly types at that.

And unfortunately, even though he found out about it very quickly, there was little he could do except for spending a fortune yet that only delayed the inevitable.

He has one of the most aggressive and deadly forms of brain cancer, glioblastoma multiforme (GBM), a type of malignant glioma that originates in the glial cells of the brain. It is the most common and aggressive primary brain tumor in adults.

Glioblastoma tumors are characterized by their rapid growth and infiltrative nature, which makes them difficult to treat.

They can arise in various areas of the brain and are often associated with neurological symptoms such as headaches, seizures, cognitive changes, and motor deficits, all of which he experienced personally.

The prognosis for glioblastoma is generally poor. Even with aggressive treatment, which may include surgery, radiation therapy, and chemotherapy, the average survival time is typically less than two years. The infiltrative nature of the tumor makes it challenging to remove completely during surgery, and the tumor cells often spread and invade surrounding brain tissue.

Yet he never gave up. In fact, his field of work which is biology allowed him to transition well to cancer research, spending his remaining fortune on building some labs.

Although the chances of conquering cancer in such a short amount of time were unlikely, he still wanted to try and at least contribute to the war on conquering cancer, especially the types that are as tricky as brain cancer.

He experienced the fear of death and lived with it for a long time to the point that he had little hope of survival and his brain cancer weakening his mental capacity certainly didn't help.

The entirety of his life flashed before his eyes, and he finally saw hope. While others may consider this day to be one of despair and hopelessness, he saw nothing but hope.

His mind quickly understood everything to a terrifying degree, beyond what he was capable of even before having brain cancer.

Hope was before him in the shape of a panel floating before his eyes, so he forced himself to adapt quickly, noticing some peculiarities right away.

First, why is his soul so strong, at least in comparison to his other stats, and the same for his energy, could the two be related to each other?

His meager physique didn't surprise him not one bit. After all, he has Brain cancer, and the occasional seizures didn't allow him to do any serious physical exercises, even walking was sometimes difficult.

The other peculiarity he noticed, and the most urgent one wasn't his strange ability but his name, why is it empty? And why did he feel like he could set it to whatever he wished?

He thought about many possibilities, and in the end, he muttered in his mind, 'Silver, that will be my name from now on.'

He realized that perhaps that was a hint, a hint that using his realm name may just be dangerous, especially when taking abilities into effect.

What if there were some dangerous abilities that require one's true name to function? And what if there were abilities or individuals who can see other people's Awakening status?

He took one last glance at all the other stats before turning his attention to his surroundings, a lab with several individuals within, all looked stunned, surprised, seemingly doubting their own sanity.

That alone told him that he isn't the only one who saw the announcement, most likely the entire world did, 'Maybe I'm not hallucinating?'

He didn't dwell on that though for long, finding it to be unlikely considering he just experienced Panmnesia, remembering the entirety of his life in detail.

Instead, Silver clapped his hand, bringing his colleagues out of their stupor. Well, they were more so his employees, it's just despite being their employer, he always worked with them in the lab.

"I assume that everyone heard and saw the same things I just did?" Silver asked as he traced his eyes around.

"Ah? You too?"

"Yes."

"Doomsday is coming?"

They all nodded one by one while some of them seemed urgent, their expression turning anxious after seeing the name of the first stage, Doomsday.

Some of them have families in the city, and their current location is in Silver's lab which is situated near New York, only about a dozen miles away.

"Calm!" Silver said with a frown before adding, "Panicking will do us no good so listen up! Stop all the experiments for now and let's see if the internet and phone signals are still up. Contact your loved ones if possible while you're at it."

If there was someone they would listen to, it was Silver. He's after all quite charismatic which is why he was able to assemble such a talented team... Well, it was mostly money.

Either way, they calmed down their anxious hearts as they exited the very secure lab, Silver leaving them with a few words before quickly walking away, "Change into a level A protection while you're at it."

And he did the same, changing into a very secure Hazmat suit as fast as possible before picking up his phone as well as a radiotelephone, and as he expected, the head guard was already trying to contact him.

"Sir! Sir!! Can you hear me!!? Sir?" The anxiety and fear in his voice were obvious, and Silver didn't think the announcement would be enough to make him lose his mind to such an extent.

"I'm here. What happened?" Silver asked with uncertainty. After all, even he doesn't know what kind of doomsday is being brought upon the world.

"Fog!! There is fog everywhere! I... I can barely smell, see or hear anything out there!" The head guard responded in panic.

"Why did you go out? And can you find your way back here?" Silver asked with a frown.

"I wanted to survey the area after... Sir, the fog is getting thicker?" The head guard responded.

"Try to get back here as soon as possible and lock the doors behind you," Silver instructed before asking, "Mark, Sam, are you listening?"

"Yes, we're still on the roof," Mark responded.

"Alright, both of you come back and lock the roof door behind you. Also, call everyone else to the hall," Silver instructed further.

The facility is relatively big, consisting of a large building with several guards, and three labs with about two dozen researchers, all specialized in cancer research.

He never wanted to feel that fear of death, and while there was hope before him, he has to stay alive to take it, so he headed to the hall, finally turning his attention to what has been faintly scratching his mind.
