Chapter 26: Am I A Coward? II

...........

"I don't lie... You do not have to trust me on that, you just have to observe my actions in the future, and they should tell you what you need to know," Silver calmly said, "Now, tell me everything you know."

And that she did before Silver also let her know of some of his plans, just the ones related to her, starting with studying her mutation and... The hunt.

"How did it go?" Upon leaving, Silver found Natalia waiting for him right by the door, asking with curiosity as she marveled at his peculiar silver appearance, something that surprised her no matter how many times she had seen him.

"As expected," Silver responded with a smile.

"You seem very happy?" Natalia nodded before remarking, noticing his vibrant good mood, "Is it because you've finally defeated death? You've integrated the T virus, so you're basically immortal, no?"

"No," Silver chuckled as he weirdly shook his head, "If I've truly defeated death, then why do I feel like its clutches are all over me, just waiting to harvest my life?"

"Huh?" Natalia blinked in confusion, "You've defeated your cancer, and you must be one of the strongest in the world on top of leading Umbrella which should also be quite the strong force, so how?"

"Oh, Natalia, did you forget who we should be cautious of?" Silver murmured as he eyed her, "We should be cautious of the god or gods behind the game, not the pawns on the chessboard."

"We are the pawns on the chessboard though," Natalia pointed out.

"Thus why do we have to change that," Silver nodded, fully agreeing with her.

"I see," Natalia realized that his vision is way beyond her, "I... I wanted to ask you since a while ago... Is it okay that I'm afraid? I'm so fearful of death... Because I don't want to go out while there is still so much to see in this wonderful heinous new world... That's why I follow you. You're stronger than I am, calmer, and fearless... I want to hide behind you from the fear of death... Is that okay? Am I a coward for that?"

"Hah hahaha hahaha," Silver laughed. He laughed like he heard the funniest joke in the world, "So what you're basically trying to say is that you're just using me to survive?"

"Basically," Natalia nodded with her face twitching, and hearing his response made it twitch even more.

"It's alright," Silver smiled as he nodded, "You or anyone else using me is just a part of me using them... It goes both ways, kinda."

Then why does it not sound like it goes both ways? Natalia wanted to ask, somewhat speechless... Only to see Silver's expression slowly changing, his smile vanishing, leaving behind nothing but a blank paper.

"Natalia, you were wrong about something," He muttered in a low tone, "Fearless, I am not. Not in the least. I may just be the greatest coward in the world... I fear too many things that I myself find it ridiculous. It might just be a disease, but maybe that's why I've come so far?"

Silver rarely if ever lies. He would rather just stop talking or just doesn't respond instead of lying, just like now, but what he said was enough, "Good night."

'Ah, have I ever known him at all?' Natalia had to wonder as she watched him walk away, 'Or maybe the game changed him, opened his mind to new possibilities, ones I can't see?' She was confused.

"Hey," Natalia was awakened from her daze by the low murmur, coming from her house as she suddenly found Crystal right by her, peeking from behind the door, "Can you tell me more about him?" Yeah, she did eavesdrop on them.

'Is this what he wants? Is this what he means by saying You or anyone else using me is just a part of me using them?' Natalia knows that he must've noticed Crystal eavesdropping, and he allowed it.

So Natalia had a long chat with Crystal, all the while, Silver went back to the labs, joining Albert... That's his good night.

It was finally time to truly launch Umbrella. It was time for it to the umbrella to open its clutches as the New Silver Effect was extremely stable.

The creation of a Zombie Queen went very smoothly. The only problem was controlling her which involved gaining insight into the hive mind and the results of the rehab project.

Well, the Zombie Queen being transferred to the New York just a week later, specifically, to the radiation zone, should speak about the success of the project.

After thousands of tries, a stable Zombie Queen was created along with hundreds of abominations. Unfortunately, the creation of the Lickers and the Queen's guards was a failure, and it was due to the New Silver Effect actually.

Eliminating the destructive nature of the Silver Effect made its energy creation capabilities even more ridiculous to the point that it was causing massive instabilities in the research subjects.

Silver estimated that one would need at least 3000 in endurance to handle it, or maybe way more. He's the holder of the Silver Effect, thus it would naturally be much easier for him.

The abomination survived only because they are abominations, heinous failures whose lifespan is around thirty days before they completely break down from the inside out.

And that was enough, the rest would be left for the Zombie Queen to spread her clutches all over New York, all under Silver's instructions... Indeed, instructions.

The greatest change that took place due to Silver's transformation happened in his brain, a change he would've been venomously again if not for the existence of the soul.

The change involved the mutation of all his brain cells which would've normally led to some side effects such as memory loss or even worse, becoming someone else entirely.

Silver knows that he is who he is because of his memories, his experiences, and his fears, none of which he wants to lose lest he loses himself.

that's where the soul came into the equation as its core was serving as Silver's memory bank, processing, and thinking part, all in one.

Silver's brain doesn't seem to be that much of a weakness anymore as it's merely a supplementary unit to his soul, the latter of which becoming his memory bank due to either his strong soul or the Silver transformation.

The mutation of his brain had many effects, increasing his processing power and intelligence massively being the least special. The most special is, of course, the very faint connection he felt upon the mutation.

The connection was faint but it was there, a connection between the Zombies created by Umbrella, specifically, only the ones that have the New Silver Effect within.

As Silver anticipated, the Silver Effect does have an aspect of control within which allows him to control the undead that are within the Hive Mind.

It should also allow the Mother of Silver to control those with the Silver Effect, as Silver has come to call her, or rather, she can control those who control the Silver Effect... Silver was definitely at the very center of some kind of conspiracy.

Yet he was still very focused on what matters the most while keeping the predictable future in mind. The present requires a thorough clean-up of New York. It's a necessity if Umbrella wishes to expand quickly.

And the great thing is, Silver doesn't have to do a thing himself, nor does anyone in Umbrella. Everything will be left to the Zombie Queen whose intelligence isn't too bad.

Silver left her to grow amidst the radiation for a reason... He wants her to hunt while he focuses on his research.

And strangely, not being able to use the old destructive silver effect had nothing to do with it. Not being able to use it certainly made Silver weaker, but it also opened a new door for him.
