28 Chapter 28

Chapter 28: Hidden Title

On the small town on the very outskirts of Earth Kingdom, a town so quaint and so far away out of the reach of the government that little to no jurisdictionary power of the kingdom reaches there.

However despite such circumstances the people were happy. They were of course far, far underdeveloped unlike the other towns and cities but who's to complain when they're happy?

"Mom! Dad! Kiril and my friends are here! Can I go out and play?" A boy around fifteen wearing an old strewn sack as a simple cloth.

Their house was very small, run-down even but despite that the smile was still present.

"Of course dear but be sure to be back before dawn, we need to do our daily prayer for the spirits" His mother replied with a soft and warm smile clutching the small token hung on her necklace.

"Yes, mom!"

"Take care, buddy," His dad remarked. The man was sitting on the table holding a carving knife and a piece of wood. On his hand was carved a token of what seems to be similar to the one hanging around his wife's neck.

"Thanks Mom! Thanks dad!" After getting permission from his parents the young boy immediately ran out towards the small grass field where his friends were playing.

"Kiril! Jorn! Mera!" He called out running towards them.

"Stop and get on your knees, peasant, I am no Kiril! I am Avatar Kiril!" The boy with a shaved head but cute features shouted. He then performed an entire set of dances just to lift up a small pebble.

"Hiya!" He threw the small pebble at slow speed. The small stone bumped on him and he flew out in an exaggerated motion.

"You won't get me Avatar!" He cried then he extended his arms and a small mound of earth rose up to block the pebble.

"Let me help you! Hero Kenshi!" Jorn the other boy with black hair and smaller stature shouted as he stomped his feet to the ground and shook it with earthbending.

The debris from his stomp was then bended by Mera who was the only girl in the group and attacked Kiril.

"Oh! I'm defeated! Have mercy!" He giggled. The four children continued to play, roleplaying as the Avatar.

That's the norm, no matter where you are in the entire world the Avatar's existence is always known. And for kids who have a wide imagination, roleplaying them was the best pastime.

"It's already afternoon, we gotta go back guys!" Noticing the already descending sun, Mera remarked.

"Oh shucks! We gotta go!" Kiril panicked.

Before every sunset there is a tradition here in this small village where they have to pray and give thanks to their town guardian spirit. They call him Laghima, the Wind Spirit of Protection and the inspiration of Guru Laghima's name.

There is exactly no deity here in this world, only spirits, well you call some powerful spirits deity but there is no divinity here nor a widespread mainstream religion so the people have the freedom to give thanks to any spirit they deem their own protector or deity.

"Kenshi, you're here we can start our prayer now" His mother said to Kenshi.

"Come sit" his father remarked and then he put his hand on his shoulder and started praying.

"Great spirit Laghima, we give you thanks for our daily bread and your ever giving wind. Please guide our family through peace and prosperity as you have guided the winds."

"We offer our sincerest gratitude." And with that their prayer was over.

"Okay we're done, you can do your chores before bed," The woman of the house said, Kenshi giggled and nodded.

After doing his chores Kenshi headed to his small room where a small but clean bed was laid, on the bed was a book.

"Huaaa!" He yawned then jumped to his bed. He was about to go into the world of morpheus when suddenly he heard a blood curdling scream.

"GYAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!" he was immediately woken up by the sound. He jolted up from his bed and ran towards his parent's bedroom.

Thankfully the cry didn't come from them.

'Thank god,' He sighed. Then Kenshi looked at the window and saw an orange hue emanating from it and being refracted by the glass of their window.

Such light should be impossible to be seen right at this hour since the sun has already descended, there could only be one reason.

Fire.

"Mom! Dad! Something is burning outside!" He exclaimed.

"My friends, they could be in danger!" He shouted to his mom and dad, he was about to run off towards the door when suddenly it was swung open by a powerful force.

"Kekeke! Another one, boys!" The figure shouted. He was wearing a ragged robe, his hair was a mess as if he didn't have any shower for a prolonged period. He was exactly what you would call a ruffian, but looking at this situation he's more likely a bandit.

"Kenshi! Sara! Get behind me!" His dad shouted as he pulled Kenshi and his wife away.

"Oh what do we have here? Another brave one!"

"And look, another girl to add in the mix" The bandit cackled, his annoying and cocky voice resounding through the walls of their small home. His eyes wander around Sara's body lustfully.

"Hey, hey, hey, dude don't get too ahead of yourself, I get dibs on the wife" Another bandit entered the house and laughed maliciously.

Whatever they are, it was clear these people don't have any good intentions.

"Kenshi, take your mother and run away, I'll buy you some time" The man of the house said with a heavy voice.

"No! Dad! Please, run with us!" Kenshi shouted and grabbed his father's hem.

"Are you a fool boy! Run with your mother, if I run with you they would take you and your mother! They would do unspeakable things to her so be a man and run away for her!" His dad slapped him.

This gave him an awakening call. If his dad were to run away with them, no one would stall the bandits meaning they could capture them altogether but if he stays behind he could buy some time to escape.

"Please, Kenshi, save your mother" He whispered in his ears as he hugged Kenshi, and then he pushed them away and faced the two bandits.

He grabbed the nearest knife beside him, his carving knife that he left on the table earlier this afternoon and pointed it at the two bandits.

"I will not let you touch a hem of their clothes even if it costs my life!" He shouted, his voice reverberating with bravery and resolution.

"Kekeke! What a fun guy!"

"HAHAHA! It seems we have a hero here!"

The two bandits mocked.
