1 New Beginnings

(Why not right....)

'Never thought I'd transmigrate to the world of Avatar. And I'm in the Legend of Korra time period too, a few years before canon starts.' Kai thought to himself as he read the newspaper while sitting on a bench.

'I transmigrated into a person who just joined the Fire Nation's Army as a new recruit. What a coincidence, I was serving in the army before I died.' Kai mused before sighing, remembering the last moments of his short 19 year life.

He was walking down the street before a truck came out of nowhere and slammed into him. After that, the truck simply reversed itself onto the road correctly before driving away, leaving his broken body on the ground.

"Guess I better make the most of my second chance at life." Kai sighed as he stood up and looked at the reflection of himself on the pond water.

Kai had messy black hair and amber gold eyes, his eyes reminded him of Azula's which made him chuckle a little. He was tall, standing at 174cm which was 5'7. [Pic]

Running through his pockets, Kai found a wallet which didn't have much cash in it. Sighing at how poor he was, Kai took out his ID and read through it.

When he read the year he was born, he coughed uncontrollably. "153 AG!? Right now is, 166 AG. I'm 13 and I'm already in the military?!" Kai whispered, trying not to overreact since he was currently in a park.

While still shocked, Kai at least had the right mind to enter to a random alleyway to continue this shocking episode of his.

"So.... I'm the same age as Korra..... I know I'm tall and all, but how the hell did those soldiers not figure out my true age when they read my ID? Did I use a forgery or something?" Kai whispered while scratching his head.

[Synchronization Process Starting...]

Kai gasped as he saw a floating screen appear in front of him. 'Here it is, my golden finger! I was half expecting it but still! This is amazing!!!' Kai shouted in his mind as he grinned excitedly.

"Well now I know how I managed to get into the army. But why did old me do that?" Kai wondered, also realizing that he didn't receive the memories of the person he inhabited.

[Would you like to relive the memories of the person you transmigrated into?]

"Oh yes please—Ugh...." Kai immediately clutched his head and groaned weakly as his head started pounding. He was observe the memories of the person he inhabited.

It went by like a flash, but that was not the reason why Kai was making a face full of disbelief and surprise.

"Holy shit, I'm..... the Avatar?!"

.

.

Here's a synopsis of Kai's backstory. He was born to two normal parents. His father's father served in the Hundred Year War when he was a teenager.

Now here's the surprising part, his grandfather had encountered Avatar Aang before and fought him. He put up a fight, but Aang quickly defeated him with Airbending.

But before he was defeated, he was holding Aang's shoulders with his hands as tightly as possible. He somehow absorbed a piece of Raava, the spirit of light and peace and also the Avatar Spirit.

All of it was done without Aang even realizing it. It didn't even make the Avatar's powers weaker. And so he survived the battle and retired immediately when the Hundred Year War was over.

His grandmother gave birth to his father and when his grandfather passed, the piece of Raava inside his grandfather passed down onto his father without no one realizing it.

His father didn't even realize it and continued on his normal life. He met his mother and gave birth to Kai. Unexpectedly, his mother died during childbirth and his father was struck with an incurable disease when Kai was just 12.

On his deathbed, the piece of Raava was now passed down onto Kai. Kai now lived in poverty with no family to take care of him.

He was recruited by a notorious street gang and learned forgery and stealing from them. The only reason the gang recruited Kai was because no one would suspect an innocent kid to be a part of a dangerous and violent gang.

With his skills, Kai decided to leave the gang life and join the military. And that's how he got to his current situation.

'I'm just a recruit in the army. I need to train as hard as I possibly can if I want to rise up the ranks and make a name for myself. There is no way I'm going to live a mediocre life, especially not in this world full of spirits and elements.' Kai clenched his fist and got up.

First up on his list was training. If he had a piece of Raava, he needed to find out if he could bend another element than just fire. But he won't focus on that right now.

Using his memory of the place. He made his way towards a gym he frequented. This place was for soldiers to practice their firebending.

Entering the gym and showing proof that he was in the military by showing them his military ID card, Kai entered the firebending gym with little to no problems whatsoever.

He was immediately shown a room by the soldier managing the gym. It was an empty room with only white walls and a stand holding a touchscreen to the side.

Examining it, Kai found out it had training uses. It could summon holographic enemies to let him practice fighting and it can also shoot out tennis balls to let him train his aim.

'There's also difficulty modes to it. I'm gonna go easy on myself first.' Kai thought and selected the target practice exercise at the easiest difficulty.

Suddenly, a small part of the white wall opened and shot out a tennis ball at him. Kai immediately reacted and delivered a punch, shooting out a small stream of fire out from his fist.

The fire burned the tennis ball and another one shot out from another side of the wall a second later Kai burned the tennis ball.

Kai turned around and did a sweeping motion with his right arm, creating an arc of flames to slice the tennis ball. This sort of training went on for ten more minutes or so before Kai wanted to take a risk and up the difficulty.

As soon as he pressed the button to start, two tennis balls instantly shot towards him. Kai widened his eyes and instantly dodged one of them before shooting a fireball to the other one.

More balls from different directions were shot towards him. Kai shot a fireball towards one of them before performing a sweeping kick towards two others, burning them all.

This continue for a while with Kai getting used to his new abilities quickly. Before he even knew it, ten minutes have already passed and the room was filled with burned and broken tennis balls.

[Firebending(Novice 20%)]

Halfway through training, Kai realized that the more complex movements and techniques he performed, the more the percentage will go up. So Kai was now trying to perform new techniques that the past owner of this body never used.

Oh and, he also created a new skill.

[Flame Generation: Orange, 5%]

Kai was currently sitting down while pondering his next course of action. It was obvious that he needed to increase his power. Kai was using his memories of the show and the wiki to plan his training.

Kai ignited a small ball of fire on his palm. He looked at it before he started condensing it. The fireball became smaller and Kai could feel the heat of the ball increasing.

"Yes.... This should work well." Kai whispered before he made the flames disappeared. Kai's plan was to start using his condensed fire technique while training.

It wasn't really talked about in the Avatar community and Kai really had no evidence that it could work, but if he kept using condensing his fire while doing his firebending training, his flames that he normally puts out might get stronger.

Basically, the strength and heat of the condensed fire would replace his normal fire that he usually puts out. Kai thought it was possible and he wanted to see if it would work.

Resuming his training, Kai prepared a condensed ball of flames in his palm. As he pressed the start button, Kai threw the fireball towards the tennis ball to his right.

A small explosion occurred when the fireball came in contact with the tennis ball. Kai then ignited a flame on his right foot and quickly condensed it, performing a sweeping kick that sent out an arc of flames that swept away two tennis balls at once.

Immediately, Kai could feel that he needed to use more of his own chi to firebend. The energy he needed to use to condense and shoot out the flames took a lot out of him.

But that was just supporting evidence to Kai's plan to increase the power of his flames. The more chi he exerted, his body will replenish more in order to keep up with his exhausting usage of firebending.

At the same time, Kai was following The Dragon of the West, Uncle Iroh's sagely advice on firebending.

'Power from Firebending comes from the breath, not the muscles. The breath becomes energy in the body, the energy extends past your limbs and becomes FIRE!!!' Kai punched out a wide stream of flames towards a barrage of tennis balls, engulfing them in flames.

Kai took in a deep breath before analyzing his situation again. This time, three tennis balls were coming from in front, his left and right side.

'Alright! I can do this! Just use the breath I took as energy for my flames!' Kai thought before he opened his palm and let it face the three tennis balls.

"Hya—Oof!!" Kai grunted and covered his face which was in pain. The wave of fire did not shoot out of his hands as he intended. He planned to decimate the balls in one wave of fire. It somehow did not happen.

"Weird...." Kai whispered as he stopped the machine firing the tennis balls. He sat down on the floor and leaned against the wall.

'It seems I'm still using my emotions to fire bend. I need to fix that quickly. Maybe meditating could help, it clears the mind after all.' Kai mused before he rubbed the sweat off his face.

Kai was ready to take on the world, but to do that he needed strength. And he needed that quickly.

To be continued.....

(Need suggestions to continue story. I have something planned out and but it's really blurry at the moment.)
