CHAPTER 7

"Faster! If I don't see them, driver, you will see me".

All through the ride to the airport, Chloe instructed the cab driver to drive faster. In no time they got to the international airport.

Chloe wondered how she would find her husband in the midst of the crowd packed inside the airport but fortunately for her, she sighted Olinda and Donald. Immediately she walked towards their direction. She saw her husband holding his traveling documents on his left hand, her heart sank.

Chloe walked closer to where Olinda was standing with Donald. Tears started to fall from her eyes. "So Donald wants to leave me?" Chloe thought.

Immediately Olinda saw Chloe. She hissed while Donald stared at Chloe, his beloved wife. Thoughts ran in his mind, "Chloe is now slim, tattered, so emaciated, sickly and no longer herself. Her love for money can make her kill me, yes." Donald ran his eyes on her from toes up to head.

"My husband, please don't leave me. Please, I'm sorry", Chloe pleaded.

"How are you Chloe and our children?" Donald managed to ask while Olinda rolled her eyes in anger.

"My love let's go. We will miss our flight, let's go now", Olinda interjected to make Chloe feel worse, alas, to Olinda's displeasure, Donald ignored her. Instead he turned to Chloe.

"How are my children?" He inquired yet again.

"They are fine but they miss you. Please, don't leave us. I know it's all my fault. I promise that if you come back to me, will never trouble you. I will support you and stand by you please", Chloe said in tears.

"Chloe, you should be happy because you got what you always wanted. You have three hundred thousand dollars. You are rich! You always told me that money brings happiness and I saw pure excitement when you got that three hundred thousand dollars from Olinda. I was so scared because your obsession for money could have landed us in trouble, but I'm happy you got the money through your own bloody hands. US$300,000 is not a small money but my advice is; use that money well. You don't need to cry, I will definitely send lots of money to you from time to time, so you could take care of our children", Donald said.

"Donald, my love. I don't need money. I want you. I have come to realize that money doesn't buy happiness. I don't want to be rich anymore. I miss you. All I want is you, please don't leave me and your children. Please!", Chloe pleaded.

Olinda watched the scene in envy and assured her mind, "it is obvious that Donald and Chloe still love each other".

Chloe was still in tears pleading for a second chance when Margaret walked into the scene. "Chloe it is too late. My brother will never return to you whatsoever. He has a good wife now. Can't you see? Olinda would never think of selling my brother off like you did, Chloe. Please, leave here. I don't want my brother to miss his flight", Margaret cut in point blank.

Donald gave Margaret a quick stare that stopped her from uttering anymore word.

"My husband, I know that I have never disclosed to you why I became so obsessed with money; I was born with a silver spoon, everything was going great. I had a dream of becoming a lawyer, but after my father died, his wicked brothers took over my father's properties and they threw us out of our father's house. The burden to cater for four children fell on my mother. When the suffering became unbearable, I gave up on my dream of becoming a lawyer just because there was no money. To make matters worse, I lost my mother a few months later because there was no money to take her to the hospital. I vowed to make money and disgrace poverty, also to prove to my evil uncles that they are not God. I was bent on achieving my vow. Every time, I could see dollar signs on anything. When we met many years ago and got married, I still wanted to be rich and famous. Yes, I never regretted marrying you because you are the best thing that has happened to me, but still I wanted riches too to prove to my wicked uncles that I have made it big. Please, forgive me. My husband, don't leave me and your children. I can't live without you. I'm ready to accept the fact that Olinda is also your wife, but please don't go, don't leave me. I will die if you leave, please", Chloe added.

Donald wiped two streams of tears from his eyes while Olinda and Margaret watched the scene in disdain.

When Chloe noticed that she was creating a scene at the airport, she stood up, wiped her tears and walked away quietly.

Olinda smiled as she watched Chloe leave. She turned to Donald. "My love, let's go. We will miss our flight, please. Hurry! Let's go", Olinda uttered.

"I don't want to travel anymore, you can go ahead if you want", Donald said.

"What are you saying? Donald how could you change your mind at the last minute? Don't tell me Chloe had succeeded in her wicked plan. Her plan is to cause confusion between us, can't you see that Chloe is cunning and she had succeeded?" Olinda said at once.
