THE SCHOOL'S HEARTTHROB

The more I ate, the more the food seemed tasteless in my mouth. I couldn't believe I had just had a fight with Lily, my best friend, over someone like Rex. I glanced at Lily as she ate, wanting to say something, but her demeanor didn't make it easy. She had her back turned to Chris and me.

"Are you two fighting?" Chris finally asked, breaking the silence around the table.

I felt a pang of shame admitting that Lily and I were fighting over a guy, so I remained silent. Chris awkwardly scratched his head and continued eating in silence. I felt bad for him and decided to steer the conversation away from our fight. What better thing to talk about than food!

"So, Chris, what do you think of the cafeteria food? You've tried it both yesterday and today," I asked, trying to change the subject.
