2 Fall of Shiganshina

Chapter 2:

Days and months passed by, before Eren knew it, the colossal titan appeared and broke the gates of the city …. He had to watch his mom get eaten by a titan alive. His dad was away to the interior walls on a trip, but he hadn't heard from him at all since.

Wall Maria fell and humanity lost at least 10,000 people to the titans. Furthermore, the central government was inept and had sent out 250 000 people in a suicide attempt to reclaim wall Maria, which was just a pathetic coverup for an attempt to alleviate the food shortage.

Eren had managed to escape with Mikasa and Armin, right now they were sleeping in a warehouse that had been converted to a makeshift centre for refugees to temporarily shelter them. He was tossing to and fro, unable to sleep as he recounted the horrors from that fateful day.

The death of his mom was etched so deeply in his mind, as was the feeling of helplessness and despair. Painful as it was, he could not let his personal sadness and trauma take over him. His priority now was to survive. Tomorrow was the day he would be beginning his cadet corps training.

He had decided to join it as a way to gain strength and take revenge, but it was also for food and survival. At the very least they wouldn't have to worry about their next meal, naturally, Mikasa and Armin followed suit as well.

"If only I had the strength then, I swear.. I will exterminate every single last titan. Every last one of them" Eren muttered to himself in anguish. He could never forget the horrific scene he witnessed that day.

"This!?" Eren suddenly stood up, visibly shocked. He remembered vividly hearing this voice before, but he couldn't remember the contents and only knew he passed out shortly after.

"There's no time to think, the gift package definitely will have something to help me, I can take my time later to explore what this is all about later, It'll be too late if I leave it to expire just like this" Eren thought as he silently muttered under his voice

"You have to be pulling my leg, the penalty for failure is death? The rewards sound pretty interesting, but the penalty for failing this is death... Just how difficult is the training?"Eren mused to himself, deep in thought.

"I guess at least there is hope now … so be it. I`m going to pass this training, and become stronger, and kill those bastards, especially the armoured and colossal titan that caused my mum and so many people to be eaten alive by the titans. I swear it. I HAVE TO GET STRONGER" Eren looked up the ceiling, determined to take revenge, fire burning in his eyes and clenched his fist.

"Eren, you're still awake?" Eren heard Mikasa's drowsy voice coming from his right side

"Yea, it's nothing, I was just thinking about what happened in Shiganshina, it's alright now, rest up" Eren turned and smiled at her, giving her head a reassuring pat before turning away and sleeping.

Eren remembered asking his dad once after the incident of him passing out , about how he could be nice to Mikasa. He was grinning sheepishly from ear to ear and told him several 'tricks'. This was one of 'them'. He even swore on his life that it would definitely work.

He hoped Mikasa enjoyed that physical touch, there were other 'tricks' his dad told him but he simply… couldn't find the courage to do it yet.

At that moment, Mikasa's cheeks were blushing, unbeknownst to Eren. She could not believe what Eren just did.

Did Eren actually just.. touch her.. urm her head? Was this really Eren? She had to resist the urge to ask if Eren had a fever then and there. He even smiled at her!

Eren was never the type to really show outward affection, such action from him was just unthinkable. Could this be the start of something more? Mikasa thought to herself and her cheeks turned even redder and got lost in her own imagination.
