Chapter 18: Trial

"Why are we here again?" asked the red haired girl hailed as a hero, but actually wanted very few things more than to just punch those fat idiots in the high rankings on the military in the face, just looking at them pissed her off.

"Do you have anything better to do?" replied the black haired boy that was only here to enjoy the show.

"Yeah, I'd love to bake a pie or some shit, like, I don't know, literally anything, this farce is so boring" replied the girl.

"Since when do you make pies?" asked the boy flabbergasted, what was she even talking about?

"Yeah, dumbass, I have a life outside of you?" answered the girl, looking as if he had asked the most obvious thing in the world.

"And that life comprises of baking pies? Where did you even learn? We've been in the army for years and I'm pretty sure we never had the things to even bake a pie?"

"There is a first for everything, you know? Maybe you should start trying new things, you should find a hobby"

She did make a point, thought the boy 'I should find something as a hobby, my life can't be just train, fight and sleep...'

Unfortunately, the boys mulling was interrupted by the very pissed off voice of his unofficial captain, they had both been put in the levy squad "Will you morons just shut up?"

They were far too skilled to be put under anyone weaker than levy himself and were both far too inexperienced in the ways of the survey corps to be squad leaders or captains, so for the moment they were put under him.

The future was still to be determined, Liesl was still deciding what she wanted to eventually become in the future while Klemens found commanding people to be nothing but a burden he wasn't suited to, even though he could learn to he just didn't find it something to be desired.

He joined the army to protect Liesl from dangers, even though he perfectly knew she was the last person to need protection, and during his training he found a few other people to protect.

"Yes sir" the two whispered, they thought that they had been pretty quiet already, but apparently they hadn't been quiet enough.

They were in the court room were Eren's fate was going to be decided, if he was to be given to Survey corps, the Military Police or if he was to just be put down like a dog.

The two were the only cadets allowed inside the court room, Mikasa and Armin were still behind bars until the army decided how to deal with Eren, if he was to be put down, the two had to be interrogated, they knew that the three grew up together and any information would be useful.

In different circumstances they wouldn't be under such firm scrutiny, but the desertion and betrayal of two other cadets, Reiner and Bertholdt, whose whereabouts were still unknown, had raised the suspicion on the cadets they interacted with, and given that they had been reported as being in a good relationship with the traitors they decided to rather be safe than sorry.

The army hadn't put as many men as they should in the hunt for the deserters, after all they didn't know all that Klemens and Liesl know, so they just took them as two common criminals and deserters, they had put the military police at their tail and let the situation evolve from there.

The two had never really put much attention in what was being said by the judge, a grey bearded old man who seemed to have something wrong in the head, according to Lies.

"That guy has some mean eyes, he looks at those fatties on the other side as if he wants to eat them, stay away from him Kle, he may go after your young butt" whispered the girl, this time low enough to not be heard by their future captain.

Even though they were still officially cadets because they still had to do the selection, they were still preparing for their eventual entering in the cops, given that they had clearly expressed interest.

"What..." the boys cheeks tightened instinctively after earring the girls words, but relaxed soon after and started pinching the girl's side "Shut up, this is an important moment"

"What's there to worry about, at most they are going to take the two of us in the mix as further leverage to prove that they can keep him under control, being on their side means that Erwin holds the upper hand in the negotiation, but they would have probably won anyway given that captain Levy is here"

As the two were discussing the situation, the court room was getting heated, the fat merchants, the fat officers and the insane guy from the cult that warships the thing that the girl wanted nothing more than to destroy started shouting at each other.

"You know, Lie, if that guy with the weird necklace were to know about your dream he would linch you to death" said the boy, clearly amused by the chaos that was beginning to come into the hall.

"Fuck him, I'd like to see him try, even if things get really complicated I'll just go to that place and wait for things to calm down before returning and shutting them up for good" replied he girl.

By that place she meant the world outside of the island that they apparently lived on, as Annie said, they had made some contingency plans in the eventuality that the inside of the walls were to become uninhabitable for the two of them.

Not that they thought that such a situation could come to pass, but they could never know what fate had in store for them.

"We, remember that if you leave I'm coming with you, but I don't want to leave so you better keep that particular dream to yourself until we are more powerful" replied the boy.

"Yes, mommy Kle" said the girl with a grin, she knew he was perfectly right, she just wanted to piss him off.

He knew her enough to know that she understood, so he just ignored her.

But not seeing any reaction from her friend, she pinched his forearm, because she thought 'Why not' and did so.

Before the boy could retaliate, the captain in front of them jumped to Eren, who the two had just realized was talking, and straight up kicked him in the face shooting a tooth out of his mouth.

"Holy moly, the dwarf is a badass" whispered Liesl, earning her an amused glare by her friend, he really would have liked for her to say such a thing in front of the captain, but he knew that as long as they were in the army she would show at least the minimum of courtesy to their superiors, Levy and Erwin above all others as they conquered the right to have their full respect with their abilities.

From their few contacts with the two they had still managed to find out a bit about their personalities and abilities.

The commander was a extremely intelligent individual, with a focus on planning ahead, something that the two were really impressed at and given the commander nature as a bettor, they could understand that he was exactly what humanity needed in the current situation, where external threats were targeting them, but their government still didn't know about it.

Levy, on the other hand, wasn't as inclined to lead people, but was a much greater fighter with plenty of experience, they could see in the way that he carried himself that her was extremely skilled.

For different reasons the two had earned the right to the respect of the two, the other captains, such as Hange Zoe, still hadn't interacted with the two enough for them to form a clear opinion.

"Oh wow, he's beating him up good, look at all that blood" remarked Liesl as the captain kept beating Eren, she was pretty sure that the boy wouldn't die, just feel a lot of pain, so she was having fun.

The suicidal moron getting beaten up was something she always enjoyed seeing.

The boy by her side, on the other hand, wasn't enjoying the show at all, but he knew that it was necessary to show that Eren could be controlled and suppressed.

And if it was necessary, he would step in himself to to the beating.

"Nothing instills discipline better than pain" remarked the badass dwarf, as Liesl had called him.

But a guy, whose rank the two teens still hadn't learn of, tried to stop Levy asking "What if he gets angry and turns into a titan?"

Levy momentarily stopped the beating and said "During the time that he was transformed they said that Yeager was able to kill 20 titans before he finally run out of strength, how many of you can say the same?"

Erwin raised his hand to speak, he was authorized by the grey bearded supreme commander of the army and stated "Sir, I have a proposition, there is still a lot we don't know and danger will be ever-present, I propose that Eren Yeager be placed under captain Levy's supervision and you can look upon the mission's results yourselves"

The supreme commander thought for a second before saying "Eren Yeager will be closely supervised and if he should lose control?"

At that question, captain Levy stated "I can definitely kill him if it comes to that"

Erwin added an extra bit, finally calling in his last resource "The two recipients of the new Star of Freedom medal will be permanent members of the team supervising Yeager at all times"

The Supreme Commander and many other people were shocked at the revelation, many from the military police assumed that the two monsters would join them inside the walls and were on the other side only to spectate the trial, but if Erwin said so then the two must have already decided to join the Survey Corp.

The Supreme Commander was intrigued "The Stars of Freedom you say? Klemens Ackerman and Liesl Stark, is what Commander Erwin said correct, that the two of you will join under captain Levy in keeping Yeager under control?"

"Yes sir" replied the two at the same time, they knew that it was no time for games at the moment, so they kept their composure and dignity to raise the already high confidence the people had in them.

Erwin, putting the final nail in the coffin, concluded "The two have reportedly killed more than two hundred titans on their own on the day of the opening of the breach in Trost, giving them a kill count ten times higher that Eren himself, I think that with the two and captain Levy present, no titan could even hope to cause any damage"

The people from the military police had almost given up at this point, they had never expected that the two new monsters had been brought into the folds of the Survey Corp, effectively creating the most sturdy wall possible around Eren.

"Very well, I have made my decision" said the Supreme Commander while rising up to proclaim his verdict.

"Sorry for the theatrics, but we did menage to have you placed in our custody, you have my utmost respect, Eren, I'm glad you're on our team" said commander Erwin to Eren.

They were currently all inside a private room for them, in the room there were seven people, commander Erwin and three captains, Levy, Hange and Miche Zacharius, after them there was Eren himself, and to the titan boy's confusion Klemens and Liesl.

Eren turned to the two of them "Why are you two here?"

He was confused in seeing two recruits, just like him, casually following the commander and three captains to a supposedly private meeting.

"If you didn't realize, Eren, the two of us are big-shots in the army now" replied Liesl puffing her chest.

"We are part of the team that will keep an eye on you, but..." this time it was Klemens speaking, at first his tone was soft and calm as usual, but toward the end, there was a glimmer in his green pupils that made Eren uncomfortable "If you do represent a threat I will kill you without hesitation"
