That day, humanity remembered...

...the terror of being dominated by THEM...

...and the shame of being held captive in a Birdcage.

Chapter 1: To You, 2000 Years From Now (1)

As the sun cast its golden hues across the horizon, a small band of figures stood silhouetted against the towering walls of humanity's last bastion.

Clad in their iconic Survey Corps uniforms, they gazed out into the desolate expanse beyond. On their horses, they sat with grim determination.

"All personnel..."

"Prepare for battle!" came a war cry from a blonde-haired man, his expression even more serious than the others.

A man of the same unit, dark circles under his eyes and with black hair wearing the same uniform, roared as they approached the forest that harbored gigantic trees.

"There's our target!!"

"Kill it without fail!!"

As his words echoed, about five soldiers on horseback raced forward, immediately taking action.

Alerting everyone, one of them announced and reported the condition as he too raced behind, "400 meters to the target!!"

But just as he finished saying that, he couldn't help but flinch. His eyes widened as he noticed the enormous creature heading their way.

"IT'S HEADING THIS WAY!!!"

Lurking in the shadows cast by the gigantic trees, there was a figure seemingly naked, covered by the fabric of shadows while darkness covered its face.

It marched forward with loud thuds... it was at least ten times the height of a man and way bigger and more gigantic... almost resembling Goliath.

"Just as we practiced, split into five groups! We'll be the decoys!" screamed the one who had spotted the target. His dark circles got darker just for a moment as he gave the command.

"100 meters to the target!!" screamed another soldier at the top of his lungs.

And when they were close enough, the man with dark circles made sure everyone heard his orders, "All groups, attack!! Switch to vertical maneuvering!!"

Almost all of them pulled the levers, expelling a burst of compressed gas that hissed satisfyingly.

Two grappling hooks shot out from their wrists as they targeted the sturdy branches of the nearby trees.

With a thunk, the hooks embedded themselves in the trees and with further propulsion of the gas, they accelerated ahead, now midair as they drew the swords that rested on their waists.

"WE STRIKE AT THE SAME TIME FROM ALL DIRECTIONS!!!"

"Let's teach this thing..."

"...THE POWER OF THE HUMAN RACE!"

And with a roar, one of them soared through the open space that led to the creature. With both blades faced towards the foe, he swung his arms...

It was nothing but a blur... a faint visage of a lady wearing a scarf around her neck... a little mature with short hair, barely reaching her shoulder... a smile, a sad one with a drop of tears maybe...

She said, "See you later..."

"...Eren."

"Eren..."

"EREN!!", a loud voice of a young child jolted Eren awake.

"Hm?", he was still a bit drowsy.

"Wake up. It'll get dark if we don't go home now."

"...?"

"Huh?", Eren's mouth was wide open with drool almost wetting his chin.

His eyes widened as he stared at the girl ahead, "Mikasa..."

Mikasa, the young girl, had almost thrust her face in front of Eren, almost as if she was glaring at him.

"Ah... when did your hair get so long?", Eren further asked.

"..."

There was a moment of silence between the two. Mikasa continued to stare at Eren while he contemplated what he just asked.

"Heh, were you really so sound asleep that you were still dreaming when you woke up!?", she turned around and grabbed the strap of the little carry bag for wood that she wore.

"No..."

"But I felt like I just had the longest dream... uh..."

"What was it again...?", he scratched his head like a fool before adding, "Now I can't remember..."

Mikasa briefly turned behind when she heard Eren say that only to be surprised, "...!?"

"Eren... why..."

"Why are you crying?", she asked with a concerned look.

"...huh!?", Eren was the one who was surprised the most!

Silence took over as the wind blew slowly... dead leaves accumulated under the tree moved almost everywhere. Mikasa's hair fluttered beautifully while Eren stood still in confusion...
