ALMH Sasha Heldeer Backstory Part 1

Sasha and her sisters spent their mornings as a team, milking the cows and baking the bread in their small cottage. Sasha always took pride in keeping her morning hair tidy, though sometimes she got a bit of it in the milk while wrangling unruly udders.

Her mother Lisa kept a watchful eye on their work, making sure her daughters never worked a day beyond what they could handle. Sasha adored her mother, even though their busy schedule made Lisa a strict taskmaster.

"Good morning, Lisa," Sasha would say with a grin as she started her morning work. "Do you need any help today?"

Sasha's older sisters, Jen and Ellie, always worked quickly and efficiently to finish all their tasks as soon as possible. They would laugh and giggle as they raced to see who could finish milking the cows fastest or who could make the most bread. And once they were done, they would help each other get ready for school and then sit down for a cozy breakfast.

Sasha loved her older sisters, and she learned from them how to make the best bread and milk the cows the fastest. She was eager to make Lisa proud and always wanted to earn her praise and approval.

But Sasha's days at school were not always so pleasant. As she sat in class, the other girls would make fun of her messy morning hair and how unkempt it was. They would mock her outfit and compare her to their own fashionable styles. Sasha tried her best to ignore them, but their bullying eventually made her angry.

One day she snapped and fought back. She hit one of the girls who insulted her, and her parents were furious when they were called to school. Her parents Lisa and Eric chastised Sasha for hurting the other girl and forced her to stay in her room for a week.

Sasha dreamed of escaping the strict discipline of her parents and going on grand adventures like the heroes in the tales her mother told her. And though she couldn't escape, she dreamed of one day being free.

In high school Sasha spent much of her time with the boys, but there was one in particular who caught her eye. He was a handsome and friendly lad with a sparkling smile. Sasha wished she was brave enough to ask him out to the town square dances, and spent many of her lonely nights thinking about what it would be like to hold this boy in her arms.

And one day, her wish came true. Sasha and her sisters were working in the kitchen when the door burst open and the boy she'd been dreaming about stepped inside. He looked dashing in the sunlight, his eyes glinting at her like stars.

"Sasha, will you go to the dance with me?" he asked with a grin.

Sasha's heart skipped a beat, and her mind raced as she imagined the dance and what he would do. The girls in her class were right, she wasn't brave enough, but this time she had to say yes.

Sasha stood frozen, her cheeks burning and her heart pounding in her chest. She wanted to say yes but fear of rejection made her hold her breath and her mind go blank. The silence dragged on and she felt her chances slipping away with each passing second, until her sisters came to her rescue.

They pushed her towards the boy and nudged her gently, muttering words of encouragement. Sasha finally managed a sheepish smile and a few quiet nodding sounds, not exactly yes, but close enough. And the boy took that as a yes and smiled at her as he took her hands to lead her away.

Sasha couldn't breathe as the boy led her to the dance and her heart beat faster and faster. She was too nervous to speak or even look him in the eyes. But she forced herself to take deep breaths and focus on the music and the way it filled her heart with joy.

She wanted to look at him, to marvel at how handsome he was, but she could only look at his face briefly before she blushed and turned away, wishing desperately that she was like the other girls, who knew exactly how to flirt.

Sasha felt like a princess as the boy led her across the floor, his arm wrapped around her waist. They stepped together in time to the music, lost in their own little world together. She felt as though they were the only two people in the world, and nothing else mattered. When the dance ended, Sasha wished desperately for just one more minute of being there with him, but the music stopped and the spell was broken. Sasha thanked the boy for the dance, her heart fluttering in her chest and her face flushed. She couldn't believe how lucky she was!

Sasha's cheeks burned with shame and humiliation as the other girls in her class laughed at her and called her "mop head". They claimed her dress was tacky and frumpy and her hair was too messy and made her look like a janitor. Sasha tried to ignore them, but their mean words cut deeply and soon she couldn't hold back her tears.

Sasha bolted from the town hall and ran down the stairs outside, and as she did, she tripped and fell hard. She lay there in the mud crying while the girls' laughter rang in the air behind her.

Sasha, growing into a beautiful and confident woman, joined the Karnethian army and became a soldier. She trained hard and overcame the taunts and slights of the other girls. She still sometimes felt a bit awkward, but she used that to her advantage. She would let the other girls laugh at her and take pride in the fact that they didn't know how serious she was. They would underestimate her in battle, and that would be a mistake.

She still dreamed of the day when she and that handsome soldier she danced with all those years ago would someday meet again.

Sasha stood in line with the other soldiers as they waited to be briefed on their latest mission. She felt proud to serve the army and protect her people from the dangers of war.

As the captain droned on about the mission parameters, Sasha caught sight of the handsome soldier she had danced with years ago. His name was Jason and he was a very skilled soldier, known throughout the army for his tactical prowess and fearless courage. Sasha couldn't believe he was standing here, before her very eyes. She felt a rush of butterflies in her stomach, but tried to keep herself still and calm.

Sasha couldn't take her eyes off of Jason as the captain kept talking. She felt her heart pounding in her chest and her mind racing with thoughts of what she would say to him. Jason's eyes shifted around the room, and before she knew it he met her gaze.

There was a split second where they both froze, locked in a moment neither was ready to break. Sasha felt like she was going to melt into a puddle of pure happiness as she and Jason held each other's attention.

Sasha and her teammates were tasked with scouting the newly discovered dungeon and reporting their findings to next team.

"You all know your orders, follow them and you'll make it home. You see anything suspicious and you will let your commanding officer know. Dismissed!" The captain ordered, saluting the other soldiers before turning and leaving the barracks.

Sasha turned to look for Jason but only found the nervous eyes of one of the more timid soldiers. Her curly blonde hair ended in cute little ringlets that bobbed up and down as she walked. Sasha rushed outside and searched for Jason but he was gone. She sighed and resigned herself to the fact that they would eventually find the time to talk.

She felt a rush of nervous anticipation as they stepped into the dark dungeon, their lamps lighting the way as they carefully stepped forward. The air was cold and damp, and she could hear the distant drip of water somewhere nearby. Sasha's heart beat a little faster as she imagined the dangers that they would face in the dungeon. She would not let herself be distracted, however, and she kept her eyes peeled for any traps or threats as they ventured deeper and deeper into the cavern.

Sasha's stomach churned as she saw the Alpha team's remains, the bodies of the soldiers left scattered and bloody. No sign of their scout or his magic flare left to warn the others. Sasha's throat caught in her chest as she struggled to take in the sight, and then saw it. The dead body of the blonde with curly hair. Her lifeless eyes almost calling out for help. She wretched into the rocks nearby and felt the world spinning. She suddenly felt multiple sets of eyes on her and she began to panic.

Sasha tries to warn the third team by sending a magical flare up the tunnel but is pushed aside by a screaming soldier. The soldier is grabbed by a long snake like creature and is surrounded by its immense body. His body is crushed until blood pours out of his mouth and then he is eaten whole.

Sasha saw the horrifying scene and her eyes widened in horror as blood splattered all around her and the soldier was devoured in front of her. She was frozen in fear as her brain struggled to process what was happening. As her mind swam, she suddenly remembered they were part of the scouting team and were meant to warn the other teams ahead of exactly these sorts of situations. She desperately tried to blast her flare in the direction of the third team, hoping that they hadn't already met the same fate as the first team.

A snake like creature, its jaws dripping with blood stared at her with cold dead eyes. The creature snapped its jaw shut, its body coiled tightly as it was ready to strike. Sasha could feel the adrenaline pumping through her veins as she frantically searched for a way out.

Sasha, trying to remain calm, searched her pack for anything that could help as the snake creature slinked its way towards her, its fangs bared and its claws at the ready to rip her apart. She pulled out her dagger and tried to hold still, but the creature was getting closer... and closer... and she couldn't keep still any longer.

She lunged forward, dagger in hand as she stabbed the snake creature in the head. The creature screeched and stumbled backwards, stunned by the attack. Sasha let out a breath she hadn't realized she was holding.

She felt her heart racing and her legs shaking, and she stumbled back as she backed herself up against a wall. The snake creature's screams echoed down the tunnel, its body lashing about in pain.

Sasha tried to think of a way to end the fight but the creature was too quick and the tunnel too narrow. She fumbled with her pack as she tried to find something, anything, that might give her an advantage.

She heard the creature coming closer as it's screeching got louder. Then she found what she had been looking for, her pack of flash powder bombs.

She quickly opened a flash bomb and hurled it at the creature as it charged, the powder bomb exploding in its face. The flashbomb went off, sending bright light and smoke down the tunnel.

The creature hissed as it was blinded, giving Sasha a moment to recover. Her eyes adjusting to the darkness as she saw the creature stumble about, stunned by the flashbang. Sasha took a shaky breath, gathered herself and then tried to lunge towards the creature with her dagger.

The creature swiped and missed her by inches, but Sasha managed to avoid its attack and drive the dagger into the center of its body. The creature let out a loud shriek and fell backwards, its legs writhing as it tried to crawl away. Sasha took a step forward as the creature raised its head to look at her again. She could tell it wanted to fight back, to finish what it started, but it was too weak and she was too fast.

With one final stab, she ended the creature's life. Sasha stood for a moment in the darkness, breathing hard and letting herself calm down.

She looked around and saw that half her team were dead and the other half being hunted by hundreds of monsters. It was an ambush from which there was no escape.

Sasha ran for the entrance and ended up falling deep into a tomb at a lower level of the dungeon. In the center of the tomb was an ancient sarcophagus containing a powerful lich. As soon as she laid eyes on it the lid began to move and skeletal fingers reached out and began to remove the lid.

Sasha watched with horror as the ancient sarcophagus was opened and a lich emerged from within. His body was humanoid, though it had a skeleton like appearance. His face was hidden behind a mask of bone, though his eyes were a bright unearthly glow.

Without a heartbeat, without a breath, he stood before her. Sasha's fear was replaced with awe, and she was filled with fascination as she stared at the creature. She had heard stories about liches but she never thought she would see one. She took a step back as she realized that this ancient being was pure evil.

"Ged'esk Shellok!" The lich roared! All the other sarcophagai began to shake and tremble.
