13 Chapter 12: your fate is to die as a side character

[AUTHOR'S POV]

After a while;Gon, Athanasia, Kurapika and Leorio arrived safely at Dolle Harbor which the captain said was the closest port to the Hunter exam.

Athanasia was standing beside Leorio and Kurapika as she was looking at Gon who was smiling as always while chatting with the Captain.

"Thank you Captain! It was really fun!" Gon exclaimed excitedly as he shook the said Man's hand.

"I also had fun. Hmm. As a token of appreciation, let me give you a piece of advice."

Gon looked at him, Confused.

"Do you see that big cedar tree over there?" The captain added, pointing towards a certain tree on a hill.

"Yeah"

"you should head over there first, it's a shortcut to the Hunter exam site"

"Shortcut!? Thank you!"

[ATHANASIA'S POV]

' wow Gon, I know that you are excited but yelling such a thing out loud?'.

I thought as I immediately noticed the other Hunter that was eavesdropping on their conversation.

' I actually want to hit that ugly face of his but let me leave fate do its thing. '

Gon head towards us and we walked, reaching a huge map on a large board and decided to give it a look.

' do we really need to do this.. Now I know why we're gonna be the last ones to arrive. I mean it's good to be careful but.. '

"That's strange.." Leorio mumbled.

"Why?" Gon asked him.

"Well, according to the notice I received, the exam should be held in Zaban city..but the Cedar tree is completely in the opposite direction.." Leorio explained.

After a small argument, Gon started walking off saying the captain must have his reasons for telling them to go that way, as I followed after him leaving two stunned boys behind us.

soon enough, Kurapika started following us, Leorio walking to the other direction.

I glanced behind us, grinning as I remembered how He will run back to us very soon.

' dumb eorio man '

I chuckled softly and I turned to look ahead again, ignoring the grumpy boy behind us.

[LEORIO'S POV]

"so it was a trap?"

"None of the busses actually made it to Zaban City"

I heard two men talking in an Alley and I stop on my tracks as I listen more to their conversation.

"Rookies are so naive"

' what..? It was a trap..!?'

I gulp and I turn around, running with all my might towards Gon , kurapika and Athanasia.

[ATHANASIA'S POV]

'ugh... annoying! Won't he shut up!?'

Leorio has been talking nonstop trying to make excuses about why he ran after us, saying we'd be lonely without him and stuff like it..

' that's it, I'm done, you're done, I need to seal that mouth!"

"leorio-s.a.n..." I spoke while taking off my backpack.

"Yes? What is i-??" Leorio got cut off by me shoving an apple in his mouth.

"I heard you like apples, yes?" I smiled menacingly.

Kurapika chuckled and Gon... Well just being Gon  and kept walking ahead of us, thinking how nice and sweet his sister is.

Leorio started munching on the apple while completely forgetting what he was saying a few seconds ago.

' finally some peace.. mission success!'

I cried happily mentally.

I sneaked a look behind us and smirked, luckily nobody noticed.

' the rat is still following us.. how exciting!'

[TIME SKIP]

finally we arrived To a town

"Creepy... It's empty" Leorio pointed out.

"No." I started,

"there are lots of people here" Gon added after me.

Right after that, we heard noises around us and and a stage looking thing was made(?) With an old lady in the middle of people wearing white clothes and weird masks.

' I want one....'

Leorio was already creeping out, while the three of us were standing there stunned and staring at the old lady.

Well, to be honest I was looking at the masks , not her.

"Time for the exciting two choice quiz!" The old lady yelled suddenly, causing us to flinch slightly and then stare at her blankly, not expecting that.

' jeez, I forgot she'd yell like that!'

As instruments were played as background music by the weirdos.

"you are heading towards the Cedar tree, correct?" She started speaking.

"Well, to go there you must first pass through this town. I will pose a single question."

Leorio started interpreting her but she just ignored him and kept talking.

"You'll have 5 seconds to answer. Wrong answer and you're disqualified."

"I see... Then this is part of the Hunter exam" Kurapika said with a small smile on his face.

"I happen to be a quiz expert!" Leorio said arrogantly.

"Wait, one question? All four of us will share one question? So if one of us said the wrong answer, all of us will be disqualified!?" He added.

Leorio and kurapika had a small argument, as I sighed then Gon stopped them.

' Gon, cutie pie!'

" Hey there! Hurry up"

' ah, took you long enough, first side character that will die!'

I chuckled, we all turned to face the Ra- I mean strange man.

"Or else I'll be the first to answer!" He added, a sly smirk on his face.

"Who are you!?" Leorio asked

"he followed us all the way here." I said, Gon nodding in agreement.

"what!?" Leorio gasped in surprise.

"What will you do?" The old lady asked.

"He seems eager to take it, let him go first. And that way we'll know what kind of question to expect." Leorio said, whispering the last sentence to us.

' hm hm, how strangely smart of you'

We all agreed to him and stepped aside for the man to go closer to the old lady.

"Here's your question, Rogues have captured your mother and your lover. You may only save one. Who will you save?" The old lady asked him.

The man grinned and said his answer is his mother.

The old lady hummed and asked him why he chose that answer.

Then he said, " you can't replace your mother, but you can always find a new lover"

"You may pass." She said

"what!?" Leorio yelled, earning a smirk from the man as he said "you just need to say what the old lady wants to hear"

Then he set off.

'bye bye, enjoy your time in the afterlife. Pffft'

I strangely held myself back from laughing.
