The Traitor's Daughter
LADY GENEVIEVE AINSWORTH is an English noblewoman raised in the Scottish Highlands. The spirited daughter of LORD AINSWORTH, Lady Genevieve enjoys freedom from the English social restraints until her father summons her back to their viscounty after ten years. Their reunion is cut short, however, when Lord Ainsworth is accused of high treason and sentenced to death.
Grieving and surrounded by her father’s enemies in a land she does not know, Lady Genevieve tries to protect her life and holding but his father’s half-brother, LORD BEAUMONT, is determined to milk the Ainsworth holding of all its worth before the King hands it to a court favorite. Lord Beaumont, suspected to have committed treason years ago, is widely known to not being a suitable candidate for the new ownership of the Ainsworth viscounty, and so the answer to the question of who will own the strategically rich viscounty lies in two possibilities: to someone whom the King will appoint to manage the viscounty on the Crown’s behalf, or to Lady Genevieve’s future husband. Lord Beaumont sees the second possibility as his way of getting a big share of the Ainsworth riches, so he urgently makes arrangements for his niece to marry anyone who is at least suitable to her new station.
LORD AIDAN BRANDON, a viscount and the son of Lord Ainsworth’s childhood friend EARL AUGUSTUS BRANDON, asks for Lady Genevieve’s hand, to the surprise of everyone. The most eligible nobleman in England thwarts his earlier marriage arrangement to rescue Lady Genevieve, who is now known as the traitor’s daughter with Scottish fire who shames all her suitors. Despite Lady Genevieve’s resistance, she and Lord Aidan marries. Unbeknownst to everyone, Lord Aidan married Lady Genevieve for reasons only he and his father know.
Lady Genevieve, now under the protection of Lord Brandon, finds her footing in her homeland and starts showing her true self; a fiery, feisty, and intelligent woman who can go head-to-head against a man in battles of wits and self-defense. She starts coming out of her shell as her husband crumbles her wall of self-preservation to pieces. Lord Aidan, however, concentrates on his own plans, leading Lady Genevieve to assume that their marriage is doomed.
More conflicts arise when LORD GERALD COLLINGWOOD, Lord Aidan’s best friend, vies for Lady Genevieve’s affection when he assumes that his best friend only sees his wife as a mere task he is responsible of. LADY ELSBETH BELLAMY, the most beautiful woman in court and the one Lord Aidan was supposed to marry, also comes after Lord Aidan – much to both Lord Aidan and Lady Genevieve’s frustration. Enemies who want to cover their crimes threaten Lady Genevieve’s life – a fault Lord Aidan is never willing to forgo, forgive, or forget.
Secrets and involvements come out, and when truth and lies mix up, Lady Genevieve makes the wrong assumption and leaves her husband’s protection. The real enemy presents himself and uses Lady Genevieve against Lord Aidan. Will evil prevail, or will their love surpass the threats around them?
