Griffin's POV

The look in her eyes was sheer torture for me. Confusion, pain and betrayal all flashed at me from their depths, and it took everything I had not to take it all back. Apologize. Tell her that I didn't know what I was thinking. That it was all a terrible misunderstanding. A joke even. Anything but what I had just done.

"But, what? I don't understand," she replied, and stared in puzzlement at the collar by her feet, "I mean, I know that technically yes, I've been your slave. You bought me, after all. But I thought–I mean, I thought we were something else now. Weren't we?"

We were, I thought, of course we were. And if I wasn't literally trying to remain alive then we would never, ever be having this conversation. I had thought about marrying her, of making her my true Luna. I had planned to adopt the children with her.
