9 Life as a Chef

I only slept for three hours. They were partying all night. Well, it's always like that every day. I'm only able to sleep through it if I sleep early, but I slept really late and all the ruckus kept me up.

Anyway, I put on my casual clothes which consisted of a black sleeveless shirt, black trousers, black shoes, and of course, my black scarf. Yes, I love the color black.

I woke up earlier than I was supposed to, but it's a good thing I did. I need to prepare the kitchen for today. We ran out of dried seaweed and without seaweed, there will be no sushi. The inn is getting more money than it originally did after I implemented sushi. Getting a promotion is the best.

Maybe I should've quit being an assassin and gone to become a sushi chef. Well, can't do that in my previous life now, but I can do that here.

I walked down the stairs, and the entire first floor was a mess. Looks like everybody partied too hard, even Mr. Julio.

Before I left the inn to go buy what I needed, I woke everyone up and told them to start cleaning up. We wouldn't our inn to be known as the messiest place you can be.

Exiting the inn, I traveled over to the north side of the city. That's where I get most of my ingredients and resources from. It's also where I bought my gear.

I passed by a local bakery and bought myself a sandwich and some black coffee. It's not that I like the color or anything, black coffee gives you more energy than regular coffee does.

Eventually, I reached a stall that sold seaweed. As usual, I ordered ten pounds of it. As the man who worked at the stall prepared it, I took out twenty silver coins and handed it to him.

He prepared the seaweed in two buckets. He asked me if I was able to hold it, but he just turned silent after he saw me lift them up with ease. I bought more ingredients that I needed to make other kinds of sushi.

Along the way, I stopped by a stand where they were selling avocados. I bought three cases of them as we had run out.

"Are you sure you can carry that much? You seem to be a little full there."

The stand keeper remarked as he saw all the stuff I was holding. He's right, I don't think I can carry any more or all this will fall down.

"I can help!"

I heard a familiar voice. I looked over to the right and a familiar blue-haired guy was running up to me.

"Ordos."

"You seem to be in a little trouble. Mind if I help?"

"Hmph, I would normally decline your help, but in this case I'll allow it. You've come at the right time."

"Jeez, no need to be so harsh man."

Ordos helped me carry some of my stuff. We were now carrying the same weight, but Ordos looked like he was struggling a bit.

"If it's too heavy, you can always dump some weight onto me."

"What? It's alright, I can carry this."

Yeah right. We had to take a short break because he needed to catch his breath.

"So, what were you doing in the north part of the city?"

I asked Ordos as he almost tripped on a tiny pebble.

"My sister told me to go buy her some food. I think it was called… sushi? I said I would, but she forgot to tell me where to buy it."

Sushi huh? Looks like someone has been spreading information about me making sushi.

"I see."

Eventually, we arrived at the Golden Sun. Ordos helped me moved my stuff into the inn which almost ended in Ordos being crushed by wooden boxes.

"Ho? Who is this you've brought with you?"

Abigail asked as I walked in with Ordos.

"This is-"

"My name is Ordos Lawrence, it's a pleasure to meet you."

Ordos introduced himself as he bowed politely.

"My my, what a gentleman."

"Hehe, well-"

I don't really care what happened next. I went over to the kitchen and prepared some rice. Then I started to roast the seaweed which I just bought. Hmm, it will take a while, but I think I can have my doppelganger watch over it.

As I finished preparations, I took a bandana and tied it around my head.

"Ordos."

I called him as he was flirting with Abigail.

"Huh? Yeah?"

"You said you came to buy some sushi?"

"Yeah?"

"Well you are in the right place."

I got out a cutting board and placed a salmon onto the board. The salmon was robbed of its entire skeleton and its head was also removed. This is something I would work with because butchering a salmon takes a while for me. I inspected the kitchen knife that was beside the board. I would position the fish on its belly.

"What are you doing?"

Ordos would ask. Abigail chuckled and seated Ordos down in front of me.

"Just watch."

I'd position the blade in front of the dead salmon.

"I'm prepared and fully concentrated."

"What?"

Then-

Shiiiiiing…

In an instant, my knife slid through the salmon. At first, nothing happened, but then the skin on the fish slid off of the salmon. Then I slashed the fillets into many pieces.

I would repeat this for all the other salmons that I've bought. After that, I placed them all into a freezer.

"How old is your sister?"

I would ask Ordos before proceeding. If she was under eighteen, then I'll make California rolls. They are much safer to eat since they don't involve raw meat. There is a risk to eating raw sushi. But if you freeze the fish before you serve it raw, then it's safe to eat.

"Uhh, she's 14."

A year younger, or two.

"I see, then…"

I took out a case of live crabs. Ordos tilted in head and I placed one on the board. Since she's at that age, she could eat raw meat but until she becomes 15, then for now she'll eat this kind of meat.

And well, you already know what comes next.

Ordos gaped as he saw live crabs being butchered right in front of him.

"Yeah, we reacted the same."

Abigail said as she sat next to him.

"D-does he do this every day?"

"Yes, you see, most people like to come to see him perform it live."

"Wow really?"

"Yep, though it's a bit scary since he gives off a murderous vibe, but it's worth it to watch. Just be careful not to get close."

A few minutes later…

After fully cooking the crab meat and cooling it down, I finished making the sushi rolls and placed them in a container. I also placed a tiny patch of wasabi into it. Yes, wasabi exists in this world and it's actually pretty common. However, no one really knows the use of these plants.

"Oh, what is that? Is that avocado?"

Ordos took an enormous chunk of wasabi.

"Wait you imbecile, don't put all of that into your-!"

Too late, he already placed it in his mouth. I'd sighed and shook my head. I can't deal with his incompetence.

After that, he was offered some milk, which got him back to his former state.

Such a fool.

"C-can I try one? I want to see why everyone is talking about them."

"Sure, here."

I offered him one, and he stared at it curiously. Then he picked it up with his hands and tossed it into his mouth.

Suddenly his eyes lit up. In a metaphorical way.

"A-amazing… I've never tasted something so… delicious before. This taste... it's so good!"

Is it really that good? Every time I eat my own cooking, it's at an ok level. Thinking about it, even my teacher is my old life had the same reaction to my cooking.

"H-how much is one set?"

"10 silver."

"10 silver? Shit, I only got 5 on me."

"So you're saying you are short on money?"

"Y-yeah…"

"Hmm… if you can't pay, then come back when you have enough money. I have other customers if you didn't know."

I would walk back into the kitchen but behind me, Ordos began yelling he would do whatever I want. Wow, he must really want my sushi.

"Anything you say?"

"Yes! Anything! I'll do whatever you request!"

He even got onto the ground and did a dogeza. That gesture exists in this world? Interesting.

Well, since he went and did that, I guess I have no choice. I would look pretty rude for declining him.

"Well then, how about this? If you teach me how to transform into my Spirito form, then you can have this for free. In fact, every time you order sushi, it will be on me."

His eyes lit up as he looked at me.

"Really?!"

"Yes. Deal?"

"Alright! It's a promise. But wait, you don't know how to transform?"

"No. And if you laugh, I'll cut you like how I did to those crabs."

"Eek! Alright alright, just lay down with the threats please. So when do we begin?"

"Hmm, we can begin today."

"But don't you ha-"

I pointed over to my doppelganger, who was completely absorbed in making sushi. Ordos nodded in understanding and approached the exit.

"Mr. Julio, my doppelganger will take my place today. Whatever you do, just don't interrupt it."

I said that last part seriously, and he nodded. I would then equip my battle outfit. I would strap my ninja sword to my back and my dag-

Oh yeah I forgot, they broke during my fight with Marth. Well, at least the princess was nice enough to offer me a new pair of daggers that I'd like. Oh well, my ninja sword is enough. I should stop calling it a ninja sword, it sounds unprofessional. It's called a Ninjato if I remember.

Then I got over to the exit.

"Ok, I'll be going."
