Chapter 9: Master Shawn

Asher woke up, stretched his body then he washed his teeth before taking his bath then he headed to the kitchen to help Lauren with whatever she was doing.

" Good morning Lauren." Asher said after he had walked into the kitchen, he saw Lauren with an apron on her chest as she cooked.

" Morning Asher, did you have a good sleep?" Lauren responded as she continued to cook without looking at Asher.

" Yes I did, you?" Asher said as he moved closer to Lauren.

" What can I do to help you?" Asher asked.

" I am almost done here, just go and clean the dining table and prepare the plates." Lauren said and Asher went ahead to do what she said, a few minutes later, they ate breakfast and Asher did the dishes after they took the meal.

" Lauren, I am heading to Toni's house now." Asher Informed Lauren that was sitting on a couch in the living room.

" You want to go see Toni?" Lauren teased.

" Don't be silly, I told you yesterday that I want to see Shawn and ask him if he can teach me magic." Asher responded unhurriedly.

" Oh, I remember now, don't come back home late, I need you to help me do something." Lauren said and Asher walked out of the house, heading to Toni's house. He soon reached there after a few minutes and he knocked at the door to the house.

" Who is there?" He heard Sarah shout as she walked towards the door.

" It's Asher." Asher responded and the door opened, he saw Sarah looking at him with surprise and he also saw Toni behind her but immediately Toni saw him, she rushed into her room. 'I guess she is yet to get over the kiss' Asher thought.

" Good morning Sarah." Asher greeted.

" Morning Asher, come in." Sarah said as she moved away from the doorway, allowing Asher to enter the house.

" Why are you here?" Sarah said as she closed the door behind Asher.

" You are here to see Toni?" Sarah added without waiting for Asher's response.

" Not really, I am here to see Shawn."

" Really?" Sarah blurted out.

" Yes."

" Okay, he is in the backyard, go there." Sarah said but Asher didn't move, he just stared at her.

" He is in the backyard." Sarah repeated.

" Where is that? How do I get there?" Sarah almost facepalmed as she stared at Asher.

" You don't know what that means?" Sarah asked.

" No, I do, but how do I get there?" Asher responded.

" Okay follow me." Sarah said and she led Asher to the backyard, getting to the backyard, Sarah went back into the house and Asher saw Shawn. Shawn was standing in a white circle that shone with visible ice elements gliding around his body, Asher saw that his hair had turned to white and his hands were moving around controlling the ice elements. Asher was stunned, this is the first time he is seeing a cultivating mage, he took steps closer to Shawn before he couldn't move his body again. The surrounding suddenly felt so cold that Asher could barely breathe and the aura that Shawn released held him to the ground. Shawn is way scarier in real life, Asher thought solemnly. Asher wanted to shout and Inform Shawn that he was behind him but he couldn't, his mouth felt stuck just like every part of his body, he tried to fight against the aura but all to no avail, this scared him greatly because Shawn was not fighting him actively, just his aura is enough to make him powerless, just one mage is capable of this and this made him decide that he has to learn magic quickly and have the ability to fight his enemies. The cold in the environment and the aura suddenly came to a stop and the shining white circle dimmed as Shawn stopped his cultivation, he turned to look at Asher that was sweating buckets.

" How long have you been here?" Shawn asked with a smile.

" I am sorry, I didn't know you were here." Shawn added, Asher didn't respond, he just walked towards Shawn then he knelt on one of knees in front of Shawn.

" Please teach me magic!" Asher said firmly as he knelt opposite Shawn, he read it in a magic book that if a person wants to learn magic, that person must kneel and request it from the person that would teach him, but what Asher didn't know was that the magic book is old and that kind of practice was done in ancient times. Toni was watching Asher from the window of her room, she couldn't help but facepalm after seeing Asher kneel before her father.

" You can stand up." Shawn said to Asher, he was stunned for a second because he knew what Asher did was not in practice any longer.

" No! I want to get your response before standing up." Asher said firmly.

" Don't be stubborn, get up. Let me think about it." Shawn said to Asher and he reluctantly stood on his feet.

" Why do you want to learn magic?" Shawn asked Asher.

" I offended some mysterious people and I want to learn magic that will help me protect myself." Asher responded before he noticed Shawn's face turning serious as his eyes turned bright white.

" Did you break the law? Did you commit evil? Did you do something bad?" Shawn asked seriously as he grabbed Asher's neck with his cold hand.

" I don't remember." Asher managed to say as he felt Shawn's cold hand burn his throat.

" You don't?"

" I told you I have amnesia." Asher added and Shawn released his grip on Asher's neck.

" I am sorry I did that." Shawn said with all his aggressiveness disappearing quickly, Asher wrapped his hands around his neck as he felt like his neck was frozen.

" Does magic make you guys have a short temper?" Asher asked, peeved. He didn't even get the chance to explain himself before Shawn almost froze him.

" I am sorry." Shawn repeated, he didn't know why he got tense swiftly but he knew that he didn't mean it.

" Okay."

" So how did you know you offended some people if you lost your memories?"

" Lauren told me." Asher responded.

" Oh, is that the only reason why you want to learn magic?"

" Yes."

" Magic is a power that is destructive if it falls Into the wrong hands. I have seen the wrong use of magic and I know how much it can destroy."

" But when it is used rightly, it becomes a power that changes and protects." Shawn added.

" Well I would teach you magic, but you must follow my rules and put in the work." Shawn announced he didn't want to teach Asher but he decided to teach him so that he wouldn't turn to the wrong people to teach him, especially dark witches and rogue mages because Asher looked like he didn't know much about the magic world.

" Thank you so much Shawn." Asher said happily but Shawn just beamed a bright smile at him before walking into his house.

" We start tomorrow." Shawn said before walking into his house.

" Okay." Asher mumbled under his breath, he can finally learn magic.

" Hey Asher." Asher heard a female voice call out to him, Asher turned to check who called him and he saw Toni looking at him with a smile on her face.

" Toni, how are you?" Asher asked with a big smile on his face.

" I am fine." Toni responded and Asher walked closer to her until he was standing a few steps away from her.

" Really?" Asher asked.

" Do you really care for me now?" Toni sneered.

" Yes, I do. You are my friend." Asher said and Toni's heart fluttered as she heard what Asher said.

" I am sorry about the kiss." Toni suddenly said.

" It's fine, there's nothing to worry about."

"Are you sure? Okay then."

" Do you have anything to do today?" Toni asked.

" Yes, but that's in the afternoon."

" So you are free before noon?"

" Yes, why are you asking?"

" I want to show you something before you head home." Toni said and before Asher could respond, she grabbed his hand and she pulled him away from the backyard. Asher didn't resist the pull, he didn't want to, he felt good anytime he spent time with Toni and he was also curious about what Toni wanted to show. Today should be fun, right? He asked himself.
