10 A Deal That Can't Be Refused

Wild bosses are one-of-a-kind unique bosses that are spawned specifically in the wilderness, where the location of which are hidden from common sight and are next to impossible for a player to randomly chance upon given the insanely vast map of Heaven Descent.

Differing from a dungeon boss that every player can gain access to, the scarcity of a wild boss meant that only a selected few would ever have the chance to challenge it and reap its rewards.

Requirement for encountering one of such bosses often requires an entire guild to pour in an enormous amount of effort, time and resources as investment.

As clues to them are usually hidden deep within Heaven Descent's lore or within conversations with NPCs, where bits and pieces of information are sprinkled everywhere in the game.

Sometimes, even the nonsensical ramblings of a random mad NPC in the town square could be important clues that would lead the way to a wild boss as well.

Hence, large wealthy guilds with the capital to spare would typically raise a team of library rats as part of their team like what Azure Corporation did. Undercover spies that would infiltrate other guilds and steal crucial information are the norm as well.

Top guilds with the financial backings of large conglomerates would dump millions of credits solely for possible information to wild bosses. The act of which would subsequently become the source of numerous employees' livelihood such as the case of Venn in the past.

It is a risky gamble that could make or break a guild, capable of yielding awesome rewards like rare monster cores, legendary chests and even the major inheritances of a God.

Thus, Venn wanted to be part of Ivy League's expedition group, that was if his guess was on point.

Despite Silverfox's attempt at his life, he is willing to forgo getting her back as doing that would have absolutely no benefit to him.

It would even have the detrimental effect of him becoming enemies with Ivy League, something that he couldn't afford to do at this point in time, especially when he is still under level 10, incapable of facing a guild by himself.

Crushing him at this point would simply be just a mere lifting of a finger to them.

However, Silverfox's unexpected reaction seemed to have shattered his hopes.

"I have no idea what you are talking about. Go ahead and kill me." Silverfox replied in a firm tone and looked away without caring that a dagger was pressed against her neck.

It seemed as if she really didn't know about anything regarding wild bosses seeing her attitude.

Her uncaring action caused Venn to be taken aback.

"Was I mistaken?" He couldn't help but think to himself.

With his eyebrows furrowed, he sunk into deep thought while maintaining his hand on the dagger, calculating where he could have gone wrong.

A creeping silence enveloped the surrounding as he began to doubt himself and the conclusion that he had reached.

It wasn't until a moment later when he chanced upon Silverfox's poor attempt in pretending to nonchalantly glance at him with her peripheral vision that he found himself to be overthinking about it.

Watching Silverfox's large peach blossom eyes repeatedly glancing sideways at him to observe his reaction, and then turning her sight away bashfully whenever their eyes met, Venn was ashamed that he was almost fooled by her poor acting skills.

"..."

"This girl… is too… innocent. Those lines must have been taught to her by Ivy League's guild leader"

"I bet the purpose for her to wear a fox mask was for this as well…"

Finally knowing that he was right on the money, Venn began steering the conversation back to where he wanted.

"Before you deny any further. I know that I'm right." Venn gave a confident smile before continuing his deduction.

"We have never met before, but yet you launched a sneak attack on me. This suggests to me that you wanted my presence gone from here."

"However, what's weird is that why would a level 19 player appear in a level 3 hunting ground? The experience points that the monsters here provide are insufficient to a level 19 player to level up at an efficient rate."

"So, that begs the question. What kind of purpose do you carry that you would want to silence anyone in this vicinity?"

"Other than those large guilds that would cordon off the hunting grounds to service their young master or guild leader, the other possibility would be that your guild has encountered a wild boss and is now trying to block information from leaking out."

"Am I right? Miss Silverfox? All I ask for is a spot in the expedition group. I'm certain that you have the power to introduce me to your leader. I'll refrain from selling this information to other guilds if you do that."

After finishing his long speech that carried a tinge of threatening tone, he flashed the brightest smile he could show.

He was very certain that he had offered a deal that she couldn't refuse. Either accept him or be faced with the interception of other guilds that want a piece of the wild boss.

However, Silverfox's reply was not something he would have expected.

"You do realise that I can see your name as well right? Mister Night Raid? Or should I say, my esteemed sage?"
