New Life

Now that I had agreed that I was royally fucked, it was time to properly assess the situation. First and foremost, I was dead and alive at the same time.

To continue, I had a new face and body. And lastly, I had no idea of where I was, hell I wasn't sure I was even on the right continent.

With all these points raised, I started thinking of all the possible reasons behind my current situation. I was either hallucinating, been operated on or experimented on, or the most bizarre of them all...transmigrated into a new body.

Despite the fact that I wanted to desperately believe in the first two scenarios, my gut was telling me it was the third. I wasn't proud of it but I had experience with hallucinogens in the earlier phase of my life so I was familiar with the experience. Because of that, I knew this was real.

The second scenario was the most likely. Maybe after I died, my dad pulled some strings and managed to get me into some sort of classified top-secret government program that involved the transfer of human consciousness.

As ridiculous as that sounded, I knew how desperate the obscenely rich and powerful wanted to live so the chance of being real was very high. Plus, who the hell knew what secrets the governments of the world held?

It was the most logical one out of the three but somehow, I just knew it was the third option. I didn't want to believe it but every second that passed increased my belief.

I didn't want to jump to conclusions just yet so I did what any intelligent and logical man would do in my situation. I got up from the bed and started searching for some answers.

Moving to the desk again, I filtered through all the drawers, from top to bottom. But all I found were books, stationery, and files.

I then went to the computer setup and noticed something peculiar about it. It was an old model, one of those old computers with the hunchback monitors and stuff.

An eyebrow raised at this but I ignored it and searched through the mini-drawers but I didn't find anything. Sighing, I checked the wardrobes, the bed, under the bed, the shelves and even under the carpet but still I found nothing.

I was just about to leave the room when something clicked in my head and quickly, I tapped the front and back pockets of the jeans on my new body and found it.

Reaching into my back pocket with a smile, I pulled out a black leather wallet. I opened it and right inside were the things I needed, credentials.

I removed one and read it. It was a driver's license and it had 'my' picture on it. Apparently, I was called Xander Andersen, not generic but also not very unique.

The most interesting thing was that my home address read Odessa, Texas. And the most absurd thing I saw on it was the dates. I was born on December 1st, 1989 and the date I got the license was November 18th, 2005.

Seeing those dates was strange. I couldn't tell if I had time-traveled or if someone was messing with me. I was born on November 10th, 2000 and the year, if I recalled correctly, was April 3rd, 2023.

Did that mean I was currently in the year 2006? A wild thought but looking around, some things were adding up.

But, it could also be that someone or some people were messing with me, making everything seem as if I had time traveled or even transmigrated into a new body so I just left it in my head as a possible hypothesis.

There was also an issue about the drugs in the room that clearly indicated usage.

The fact that I was previously on the ground and got up with some serious head pains served as proof that this body was on some stuff and it didn't end well.

The only sure way I could get some information or some answers was to leave the room and the house. I had to get to town.

My nose scrunched as a foul smell drifted into it and raising my arm, I took a whiff of my armpit and shook my head in disgust.

I had to get into a shower, and I had to get into it fast.

Walking out of the room, after opening the door, I stumbled into a lit small corridor. My room was the last on the corridor so I moved to the closest room on my right, near to the stairway that lead downstairs.

Below the railings, I could see a lit living room area with the entire floor covered with a white carpet. It was nicely decorated with white sofas or couches, a coffee table, a lamp stand, an old model television, a fireplace etc.

After observing the place for a few second, I entered the room and it was in fact, the bathroom. A clean fully equipped bathroom with everything, a wide bathtub and curtained shower enclosure.

It seemed the owner of the house was fairly well off...

Immediately, I stripped out of my clothes and entered into the enclosure. After a thorough cold bath that refreshed my mind, I wrapped myself with one of the white towels and walked out of the bathroom, barefoot.

The moment I came out, I heard the front door closing so I inched closer quietly to the wooden railing to see who it was.

I saw a tall and thick man, not fat, with balding brown hair, bright blue eyes, a clean-shaven aged face with crow's feet, and a relatively flat stomach. He looked a lot like the new me.

He was wearing a black coat and underneath was a white long-sleeved shirt adorned with a red striped tie, black trousers held by a black belt, and a pair of black shoes. He was dressed like a corporate worker or someone involved in education, probably the government.

He walked past the white sofas with his arms full of brown bags filled with groceries and disappeared below me.

Hmmm, who was he? Was it this body's father? That seemed to be the case given the similar facial features and the ease he used to walk into the house. Or, he could probably be one of the people involved with whatever was happening with or to me.

It was always good to be skeptical, especially given my situation. I guessed I'd have to dress up and come down for a little chat...

"Xander! Come down here, I need to talk to you for a minute." He shouted without warning, his voice very deep, hard, and spiced with a diluted Southern accent.

"Yes?" I cleared my voice and answered him, trying not to sound weird but I was in fact weirded out by my voice. It had a low silky pitch to it and it had a hint of deepness.

Footsteps rang and my eyes locked on the face of the man as he stepped out from the space below the corridor, standing behind one of the white sofas.

"Just came out of the shower?" He asked calmly, his face neutral.

"Yeah, yeah, just came out. Do you need anything?" I nodded my head and asked, a little nervous.

"I just wanted you to know that I got that Grape juice you asked for. I put it in the fridge for you." He answered calmly with a smile, gesturing below me with his thumb.

"Uhm, right, I'll be down there in a minute. Thanks." I forced a smile.

His smile deepened in response so I took it as a sign and left the railing, heading straight to my bedroom.

I went to one of the wardrobes that held the shirts, pants, deodorants, sprays, and undies and took out a black t-shirt and black short pants.

After using an unfamiliar deodorant that smelled nice, I slipped into the shirt and pants and calming myself with some practiced breaths, I moved to the door to go out.

"Hey bud, have you seen my flash drive? The one with the school reports?" The man suddenly came in and asked casually before I could even reach the door.

"Ugh...I think it's here somewhere. I'll search for it right away and bring it to you the moment I find it." Caught off guard, I paused but quickly, I managed to squeeze out a response.

"Sure, but first things first, we've got to eat. Come, I bought your favorite today. You know, with the extra beef and cheese?" He said with a fond smile, his voice soft, and his eyes looking at me with warmth.

"That's great." Surprised by his undisguised and seemingly true fondness for me, my lips curled up into a weird smile and I took a step towards him. At this point, just going with the flow.

He turned to walk away but suddenly, he paused and turned back to look at the desk, his eyes squinted.

Following his eyes, I saw him staring at the bottle of pills and when I looked back at him, I saw his blue eyes widen in shock.

"Xander, what are those?" He asked as he walked past me to the desk, his deep voice trembling a little.

I was just as confused as he was so I just kept quiet. Maybe, he would say something that would be important.

"I asked you a question, young man." He said, almost growling, his soft voice now steely and authoritative, something that made me frown a little.

The room descended into silence. A few seconds passed like this and realizing he wasn't going to get anything out of me, he sighed deeply.

"We will talk about this tomorrow." He asserted and grabbed all the pills lying on the desk. Then, he left the room calmly, not looking at me even when he closed the door behind him.

The moment I heard the door clicking, a sigh of confusion escaped out of my mouth and I plopped down on the blue-black thick bedsheets covering the bed.

The third scenario was looking more and more like the truth. From what I saw and observed, this body was probably the son of the man.

Nothing he did seemed fake. Well, he could've been a world-class acting expert for all I knew but I'd lived with people who lived lies and breathed rehearsed lives so it would be very hard for anyone to trick me.

Hell, my instincts were screaming at me that he was as true as my new face.

With all these in mind, and from what I'd seen and felt, I came to a stark conclusion.

I had truly been reincarnated or transmigrated. I didn't know how or why but I knew I had and as much as I was confused and somewhat afraid, I was also happy. A smile blossomed on my face.

Happy that I had been given a new life and if my conjecture was the truth, then I'd make sure to live this life to the fullest.

There was such much I wanted to do...
