As Silent As A Mouse

I am being hunted. Well, not me exactly. Someone wants to get their hands on the genius behind A.M.K Pharmaceuticals. They just don't know it's me. I have discovered a way to negate anyone's scent, shifter or human. You would think it wouldn't be that big of a deal... deodorants promise the same thing, but my product is nothing like that. My product turns its wearers invisible to shifters. No, not like that. But shifters need scent more than almost anything else to identify and find a person. Without scent, they can't track down their prey, or smell an enemy coming up from behind. I had originally created it so my adopted father and I could avoid the shifter community. No one was supposed to know about it. Until a little birdy said something they shouldn't have to the wrong person. Now the humans are after me and the shifters want me dead. But that's fine. That wasn't the only thing I came up with. And if I am as silent as a mouse, no one will see me coming until it is too late. This will be a RH novel, the FMC will not have to choose. The Male Bunny

I made my way into work the next day more than a little beady-eyed. That frigging formula was still front and center in my human mind while the guys were front and center in my mouse's. Thanks to her being pissed at the fact that I wasn't rolling over and showing them my stomach, I got next to no sleep.

I thought we had a deal, for fucks sake.

Tilting my head from side to side, I completely missed the fact that I was about to walk into a set of closed doors until a hand pulled me back.

"Woah there," grunted the man, pulling me into his rock hard chest. "Doors tend to work better if you open them first."

I blinked a few times at him, my brain not quite working as fast as I wanted it to.

Pulling in a deep breath to try and get his scent, I let out a big yawn to hide my actions.

"Thanks for that," I replied. He was a bunny. Well, that was a new one and one of the first male bunnies that I had ever met.

"No problem," he smiled back as he let me go. "But you might want to get a bit more sleep at night."

"Yeah. Or I shouldn't leave my house until my morning coffee has kicked in." I was becoming more and more uncomfortable with this situation. I didn't feel a threat coming off of the other prey species, but I didn't trust a bunny any further than I could throw one.

And judging by this male's size, I wouldn't even be able to pick him up.

"Do you work here?" he asked, pointing to the diner.

"What gave it away?" I snapped back, indicating the uniform dress that I was wearing. My patience was as short as I was, and standing out here wasn't helping.

"Sorry," replied the man as a light blush appeared on his face. Looking down at the ground, he took a step away from me. "I was looking for a job, and I had heard good things about this place. I wondered if you were hiring."

"Unfortunately, we aren't. Unless you are planning on getting me fired by making me late for my shift?"

Okay, so when I was done with a conversation, I tended to be a bit snippy.

"Ah! No! Sorry! Ugh, I suck at this. Can we start over again? My name is Toby." He held out his hand, but I just looked at it.

"Adaline!"

Suddenly, someone was calling out my name. Looking over Toby's shoulder, I could see Damien waving at me as he and the other three guys approached the diner.

What was this? Why did they have to come now?

Even my mouse was internally freaking out, wondering if the human me had black circles under my eyes or if my hair was in order.

Served her right. Next time, she should let me get the sleep that I desperately needed.

But even if I looked like death warmed over, the guys were giving me the perfect excuse to get away from Toby.

"Hey," I smiled back, weaving my way around the male and straight into Damien's arms. He seemed surprised for a second before he wrapped me up in a hug.

The fact that I dropped a small blanket into his pocket was a mere coincidence.

"You okay?" he murmured into my ear. I wanted to shiver as his scent completely overwhelmed me, turning me into a puddle of mush.

"Yeah," I replied, just as softly. "He showed up out of nowhere and kept talking to me."

Damien nodded his head as he let me go. Pushing me gently so that I was surrounded by the four wolves, he took point as we walked toward the front door of the diner.

"Hey," smiled Damien brightly as he held out a hand to Toby.

"Hi," blinked back Toby, looking between me and the four wolves. "I was just saving her from walking into a door."

"That's for that. I'd hate for something to happen to her. She's special to me." The wrinkle in Damien's nose when he said that was enough for me to want to shift and attach myself to him.

Bad mouse. Bad.

Inside of my head, she shrugged, but the smirk on her face told a completely different story. She loved the idea of being special to the wolf.

"Of course!" smiled Toby. "But I need to get going. I'll talk to you later," he continued, looking right at me.

"Ah, I don't think that is a good idea," smiled back Raphael as he wrapped an arm around my shoulder.

The bunny's eyes widened as he looked between me and the rest of the guys. "Sorry! I didn't know that she was yours."

"I don't think that should matter, do you?" one of the other males asked as he stepped forward in front of me.

"No, of course not. I'm gone."

And with that, the bunny hopped away as fast as his little legs could carry him.

I had to bite my lip to keep from smiling, but with how much of a pain in my ass bunnies have been lately, it was kind of nice to send one running off. Not that I was the one making it run away, but it was close enough for jazz.

"Thank you for that," I said, smiling up at Raphael.

"It's our job to protect fair maidens," he replied, removing his arm.

I nodded like I understood that this meant nothing to him, but my mouse was really not impressed at the idea that the four of them would have helped just anyone.

"Well, then, I guess I should let you go back to it."

Some days, I really wish that my brain worked better in social situations like this. I knew I could come up with a snarky, intelligent response a couple of hours from now, but at this moment…

I got nothing.

"We're here for breakfast," interrupted Damien, saving me from making a complete fool of myself.

Well, an even bigger fool.

"Another peanut butter crepe?" I replied, a big smile on my face as I went to the door and unlocked it, letting everyone in.

"Yeah. It was actually pretty good."

"You sound surprised," I laughed, letting the guys pick where they wanted to sit.

The male bunny had disappeared entirely from my brain as I started my morning routine.
