1 The void

First person pov:

I don't remember very well how I got here. All I remember is walking like any other day to my job, when suddenly everything turned black around me.

And so, it continues, no matter how many times I move my head or look around. There's nothing, just a deep void where the only thing there is, is me.

It doesn't take a genius to suppose what happened: I'm dead.

I don't know how or why it happened, but there's nothing that can be done.

When I was alive, many people believed in what they called heaven or the afterlife. But from what I can tell from my own experience, this doesn't seem like heaven or the afterlife.

And so, my boring life continued... death... mmmmm, I don't know what to call this, but leaving that aside, that's how my time passed.

Let's not lie to ourselves, it wasn't the best way I expected to spend my eternity, but I can't say it's the worst either.

"That's a good thought."

- Did someone say something? That or I'm going crazy, but that wouldn't be rare either.

"You're not crazy."

- There it is again. If I'm not crazy, which I doubt, who are you?

"That's an excellent question. I've had many names throughout my life, some you know and others you don't, but that's not important here. What's important is you."

- Not to say anything, but that didn't answer my question. And what's so important about me? I'm just... well, I was, a poor university student.

"With what impatience for my identity? I don't blame you. I would have liked to come earlier, but I had to deal with some problems. Besides, seeing you now, seeing all that potential and power you've gained, I have no regrets."

I remained silent and tried to look at my hands, but again, I couldn't see anything, damn darkness.

"And regarding your question, you can call me Hades. You have powers similar to mine, although right now you're just a future promise. I have no choice but to let you fix a universe."

- Now I've really gone crazy. I could swear I just heard that I have to fix an entire universe by myself.

"Again, you're not crazy. And you're right. I need you to fix a universe, one that you're quite familiar with."

- I have so many questions.

"Questions that would be useless. Let me explain it to you. The universe you would go to would be the Marvel universe. As you already know, Thanos snapped his fingers to end half of the universe, but what he didn't count on is that he also ended me in that universe, and hell and heaven became saturated, losing too many souls. Although later the group called the Avengers managed to reverse everything, they can't expect all those souls to pass back and forth without consequences. And that's where you come in. Your job will be to prevent that from happening."

- And how do I do that? Do I go and tell Thanos my problems and hope he comes to his senses?

"I see that after all this time you still have a sense of humor, and no. As I mentioned before, you have a lot of potential and could become the most powerful. And that's why I'm giving you this job. So, good luck."

- Excuse me? What do you mean by good luck? I never said yes, and you haven't told me what my potential is yet.

"Don't worry. I'll give you plenty of time to figure it out on your own, but I'll give you just one clue: Arise."

- Son of a...
