Aren't we lovers?

"Nana- hurry up! Mina's here"

"Ok! Ok! I'm coming"

I answered my mom and hurriedly left my house.

It was the first day of the new school year, it wouldn't be good if we were late, and I certainly shouldn't make Mina late for school.

All my effort put into studying paid off and I managed to get into the same class as her, barely.

As soon as Mina saw me she ran up to me and clung to my arm.

"You made me wait for so long"

"Well, that seems to be the story of us"

"Hah!"

We then started to walk towards the school, our first time walking to school together as a couple.

"Er… aren't you a bit too close?"

"You are already sick of me?"

"No.. It's just.. I'm not used to it. It's a bit embarrassing.. It's like the beauty and the beast and you tend to draw a lot of attention"

"Hmpf! Can't believe you just called me a beast"

I chuckled and Mina held my arm tighter.

"Nana, I'm so excited but also nervous"

"Shall we keep it a secret for a while then?"

"No, I can't wait to show the world that you are mine"

"You've become quite bold lately"

"Thanks to you"

We then walked to school like that, with our arms locking each other, smiling and happy, never looking back and only looking forward.

When we reached the school gate though, I instinctively unlocked our arms.

There were many other students around the gate entering the school for the new year, and I felt too self-conscious about the whole thing.

I've already stopped caring a long time ago how people see me and think of me, but being Mina's girlfriend now meant that how others see me will reflect on her too. I wasn't quite confident yet that I can live up to the role of being Mina's girlfriend.

Because I unlocked our arms, Mina stopped and turned to face me.

"Hey Nana"

"Ye…yes?"

"Aren't we lovers?"

Before I could answer Mina tiptoe-ed to bring her face close to mine and kissed me on the lips.

Yes, we are.

And it's gonna be all okay.
