Section 1: The basics

Magic is formed in many ways, from within oneself or from a deity. Arch mages have to master all mystic arts including arts that are unlawful and demonic. Blood magic, Witchery, Necromancy, and related magic have long since been banned in the kingdom of Larios. But as the arch mage I am the only one who knows of these spells. The base of all magic is given to us by the gods that rule the earth. Demons born of the blood god Turnos live in the wastelands of ash and lava. Fey live in the lush woods and are the children of the god of harvest Jornin. Humans and all other animals are born of the goddess of life Senth. All magical creatures are given mana by the goddess of magic Laruna and the god of death Gardus leads the lost souls to the great forest. There are very powerful magic that exists in this world we live in.

Section 2: Fundamentals of Magic

At the core of magic are the elemental, fire, water, land, and wind. Then there are life and death, healing and necromancy accordingly. Finally Practical that most anyone can use and learn from birth, telekinesis, cleaning spells, and many more. Being born without magic is unheard of but is sometimes a part of the races trait like with Humans. Humans sometimes are born with no magical abilities, it is not known why but the gods have said to their apostles that it is because human biology sometimes rejects it from birth so they live without it.

Casting magic is one of the first things many mages learn, there are of course chanting spells where it is verbal. Then the visual where the mage has to draw a magic circle and lastly mental where the mage can just think of the spell in their mind and cast it with no chanting or drawings. Mental magic is the hardest to learn and master, as it requires years of memorizing magical incantations and magic circles. Tomes are books where you write down the magic spells you know and have learned, each tome has its own mana within the bindings of the book as a tome is often a item given after graduating as a full mage.

Education of magic all depends on the school of magic you attended. While there are general magic schools for the basics the higher tier schools are often near the capital of Fernin as it has a high concentration of magically gifted individuals. Though not always the case a child can be born able to use spells from birth with no knowledge itself. As a teacher of it I tend to teach with experience rather through tests and quizzes. For the verbal maybe test but for functional casting it is all the students trying out the spells against dummies.
