8 Chapter 8 - System Starter Hero

As Willow made her way out of the room, her mind was abuzz with the thoughts of her family's history and the revelations she learned about herself. She had mixed emotions about it all; she was pleased but also worried, excited, but also fearful.

Her grandfather's words about her bloodline and the changes she would experience left her somewhat worried. She was sure her grandfather and father had their plans, but she was uncertain how they would hide or explain such changes.

She also didn't want to experience any drastic changes to her body or become an odd-looking creature. Her eyes and hair were fine, but the thought of growing extra body parts left her worried.

But she didn't have long to linger on such thoughts as her attention was drawn by a voice ahead of her— shifting her eyes from the ground where she looked as she walked, she saw the figure of Elara— her personal maid— standing.

"Young Miss, you're out."

Her face and voice were painted with relief as she saw her exit the room and approach. She naturally got worried when the Master called for her in his office since she had never entered the office before.

Elara was worried that he was perhaps going to reprimand her or something— but seeing that she was fine, she felt greatly relieved.

Willow naturally knew just how much her maid worried for her— they were exceptionally close, and Elara was like the older sister she never had; in fact, calling her a mother would be more appropriate.

Elara took care of her after her mother passed away since her father was always busy with work— she had seen Elara more than she had seen her own father.

"I'm sorry to keep you waiting."

Willow said with a smile as she spotted the maid— causing all the useless thoughts and worry in her mind to wash away.

"Not at all, Young Miss; it's my duty to wait for you no matter what."

Elara was a stickler for rules and simply bowed in response to the girl's apologies— but Willow could tell she was pleased with the girl's behavior.

"Young Miss, are you ready for bed? It is rather late already, and you have a busy day ahead of you tomorrow."

Willow nodded in response to the question— leading both of them to walk towards her bedroom.

The hallways were largely empty, as most of the servants were busy working on the decorations and other things needed for tomorrow. The hallway itself wasn't decorated yet because it would ruin the surprise.

They mainly focused on decorating places in the house where she wouldn't be during the day so that she would be surprised when she saw them tomorrow— such as the grand ballroom, front yard, and such.

Places she would be often, such as the hallways and her room, would remain undecorated until she went to sleep. During her sleep, the servants would work away during the night to get the place in top shape.

It was her father's way of keeping her expectant— and it worked because she looked forward to what it would be like.

Tomorrow was her thirteenth birthday, a day that would mark the beginning of a new chapter of her life— and she couldn't wait for it.

But her drowsy body said otherwise— tucking herself into bed after she got help changing into her nightgown, she lay silently in bed and thought over everything that had happened today.

In just one day her life had drastically change and things she never expected to happen had taken place— a system, memories of the past, her family secret, her bloodline.

These were all traits she never expected herself to have, and yet here she was— the main character in some odd other world story.

She couldn't help but sigh at the thought; she was now something she had only read about in her past life— but she was fine with that.

As her drowsy mind drifted asleep, she heard a notification go off from her system— it was a simple mental note that drew her attention— and even though she was sleepy, she fought against it to wake a little longer.

[Beginner Hero Avaliable]

The clear words caused her wary eyes to shut open, and her mind instantly raced with anticipation—how could she not? This would be her first hero, and that alone would give her a massive boost in capabilities.

'The game gives you free heroes for completing the tutorial, I didn't expect this system to do the same.'

She nodded her head slightly as she recalled the game from the past. It had been a long time since she first started MLB, but she did remember the game giving her heroes for free at the start.

Now, she was curious about what heroes this system would give.

'Open Selection.'

She commanded with her mind as a screen suddenly appeared— this screen had a total of 4 heroes on it that were available for her to choose from. Each of them was greyed out— and aside from their image, she had no information about them.

But images were all she needed— she had played MLB for years and knew almost all the heroes in the game, as well as their capabilities and playstyle.

'Layla, a marksman. The energy gunner was her nickname if i remember correctly.'

Layla was one of the choices she could make—she was a blond-haired pigtailed girl who, in her youth, fought using a large canon that could shoot out energy.

Her skills were both fast and strong— which made her a solid pick for beginners. This was one of the reasons that she was given away for free in the game, and it seemed the system did the same.

'Cyclops is a mage. He's a pretty good mage—one of my favorites to use—the starsoul magician was his nickname. His abilities are rather useful.'

The second choice was Cyclops. He was a short, one-eyed creature who wore a robe and a hat. Wielding the magic of the stars, he was quite formidable in MLB.

He was also one of the beginner heroes given by the game because he was flexible for a variety of roles.

Seeing his image, she remembered a fun fact she had once read about him— he was the largest character in the game. She was glad the system didn't give her their appearance or traits because if it did, she wouldn't be able to choose Cyclops.

In the lore of MLB, Cyclops was as large as the universe itself— that would make it a little bit difficult for her to live in her estate.

'Zilong is a fighter, also called the Spear of Dragon. He's a solid pick if I plan to fight a lot—his strength alone would probably put me at the top of Piltover—or close to it, at least.'

She wasn't exactly sure how the system would scale his capabilities but Zilong was rather strong. He was a tall male with long brown hair tied into a ponytail— he wore armour and never released his long spear.

His spear was his primary way of fighting— all his abilities were focused around it. Because of his high damage capabilities and survivability, he was another beginner character the game offered.

'Lastly, Natalia, an assassin. I didn't expect her to be a starter hero for the system— but it makes sense; she's one of the easiest assassins to use. But she's also one of the best.'

Willow was very pleased with this option— Natalia was a cloaked female with long red hair and her main weapon was her long matalic arm claw. Using this she was able to ambush and kill squishy enemies with ease.

She was one of the heroes that Willow played a lot and loved using— she was easy to bully weaker heroes with— but she also lacked any form of sustainable damage or defense.

Her entire thing was ambushing enemies and killing them with speed or fleeing if she failed.

'A marksman, mage, fighter, and assassin. Interesting. I guess the system considers Tank and Support classes unsuitable for beginners.'

Willow mused at the choices— but she was unsure what to pick.
