Side Story: Another Perspective Part 2

I spoke up

"What's happening? Did we activate a trap?"

The tall guy next to me responded

"I- I- I don't know!"

The room continued to shake, and soon after something started to emerge out of the ground near the short guy. It looked like a coffin; surely whatever was in it would be dangerous. Wait, was this a miniboss? Minibosses didn't usually show up in dungeons or temples, so while I'm not really surprised or anything, it's not as common as a standard mission.

"I think it's a miniboss!"

"Nice, I love free loot."

The coffin had fully emerged, and by that point, the shaking had stopped. The short guy spoke up.

"I- Is it ove-"

*BANG BANG*

He turned around and looked at the source of the sound. It was coming from the direction of the coffin.

"Wh- wh- what was th-"

An armored hand punched through the top of the coffin. The hand quickly retreated back into the coffin, and more banging could be heard.

*BANG BANG BANG*

More holes appeared on the top of the coffin, and soon enough there was a sizable hole that the miniboss started crawling through. What revealed itself was a humanoid creature wearing a full set of armor. Some parts of the armor were damaged or missing, and what could be seen behind it was bones and rotten flesh.

By this point, it was fully out of the coffin and standing before us. It scanned the room and turned its vision to the stone slab, before looking directly at the man holding it.

"Why is it looking at me like that?"

The enemy didn't talk, but it did make groaning noises and other things like that.

It grabbed a battle-axe from the coffin and took a step towards him, then another, and another. The short guy responded with each step the creature took with a step back. The steps became quicker, and soon enough it began running at him. I turned to the tall guy and said…

"It looks like your friend is taking aggro. Come on, let's deal some damage."

He nodded and we both started throwing attacks at the monster. I shot out magic that did a very small amount of damage, and the other guy shot arrows that ended up just bouncing off its armor. We wouldn't be able to do enough damage using our current attacks, so I equipped my sword and headed toward it. The tall guy seemed to understand that his attacks with a bow wouldn't really help, so he equipped his gauntlets and quickly followed me once he noticed I was rushing in.

The annoying guy was running towards me, and as he got closer he tried to hand me the stone slab, but I quickly ignored him and ran to the monster behind him. I imbued my sword with fire and was about to swing it when…

*growl*

A white light appeared in his hand before he reached his left arm out to me.

Wait, he can use magic!?

The white light engulfed my vision, but I still swung my sword. It didn't hit anything, and as my vision returned, he slashed his axe into my shoulder dealing a huge chunk of damage. In total, I think he took off nearly 30% of my health. Before I could retaliate with an attack, the tall guy hit him in the head with his gauntlets. The undead was sent at least 10ft away from us.

"Hey, you good?"

"Yeah, I'm fine. Just keep his attention for a second while I heal."

"Got it"

He rushed forward to try and get a follow-up attack as I grabbed a potion out of inventory and drank it. I didn't have much MP left after that last battle, so there wasn't much of a reason to keep using the enchanted sword. I put it away and equipped a great sword.

Even if he blinds me again, I should still be able to hit him due to how large the sword is.

It was heavy, but I rushed toward the enemy while my sword dragged along the floor. When I got close enough to attack, I started doing a large overhead swing. It noticed me, then dropped its weapon before pushing the tall guy into the area I was attacking. He gave out a loud grunt. The sword was too heavy to stop the swing, but using all of my strength I managed to just barely change the direction of the sword which made it barely miss. The sword clashed with the ground, and the tall guy was regaining his footing. It picked up its axe again, and as it went to attack us something unexpected happened.

"STEP OFF!"

The short guy ran in from nowhere, charging at the enemy while only holding the stone slab. Just what does he plan to do? The undead creature just looked at him as he slowly approached; I guess screaming to step off kind of ruins the whole purpose of a surprise attack. Once he got within range to attack, the short guy slammed the stone slab on its head. Since it was a quest object, it couldn't be destroyed.

*SMASH*

The sound of rock hitting metal echoed throughout the room. The creature didn't even flinch, and when everyone came to their senses, the only difference that could be seen was a small dent on its helmet. Everyone went silent for a few seconds, but the silence was quickly broken by a roar from the undead as it started slashing him with its battle axe. Each attack was hitting him, but he managed to block a few hits with the stone slab. The tall guy and I quickly rushed in to help him. The fight quickly turned in our favor once we were all attacking him at once.

"KEEP FIGHTING!"

Gauntlets collided with the armor, the great sword chopped through its defenses, and a stone slab was hit on its head. A white light gathered in its hand again, but before the magic could activate, I put all my strength into a swing toward its shoulder. Its left arm was now severed; all it had to attack with now was its axe and swinging it one-handed would prove to be very difficult and easy to dodge.

It tried to do a sweeping motion with the axe, but we all easily dodged it before retaliating with even more attacks. I swung my great sword horizontally and cut it in half. It then vanished into particles, leaving behind a pile of loot in its place. The door which previously closed had also opened back up.

We were all exhausted. Once the fight was over, we fell to the floor and started taking deep breaths as we recovered our stamina. If this was just a miniboss, what would the main boss be like? It's probably better to not think about that right now.

I stood up and walked over to the loot pile to look at it; I was disappointed. After what I got from killing the dragon, I think I've become spoiled; now whenever I see a pile of loot, I'm just sad it's not as good as what I got before. I mean, it's to be expected that killing a dragon will give better loot than some undead knight guy, but I just can't help but be disappointed.

I took some of the gold and told the other two to sort the rest among themselves. They were glad to do so and started going through the loot.

I really hope we can beat the final boss.

Due to how long this side story is (over 4k words) I won't be completely re-editing it like the other chapters. They will still get some fixes and changes though.
