-Arcadia Online-

NOTICE: Currently in progress of rewriting things. The general plot will stay the same, but the writing will be better. Chapters 1-12 are already done. Arcadia Online; the first major VRMMORPG in the world. It’s a fantasy-like game where you can immerse yourself in it as if you were actually there, and do whatever you want (as long as it’s within the T for Teen rating). You can make friends, money, or even be the protagonist of your own adventure! Anything your heart desires, this game will let you do it! Josh is an ordinary 18-year-old guy that enjoys games; perhaps a bit too much. He plays Arcadia day in, and day out; for him, this is his job, his source of entertainment, everything! This game is practically his livelihood. Maybe one day he'll meet someone that can break him out of his shell and help to better himself as a person. New chapters either every day or every other day.

Doing a Favor

[Mike – Hey Josh, do you mind helping me with something?]

[Josh – Yeah, what's up?]

[Mike – Ok, so my sister wants to start playing Arcadia, and I would really like your help with getting her used to the game]

[Josh – Why can't you teach her?]

[Mike – I'm gonna be busy the next few days]

[Mike – Pretty please]

[Josh – ...]

[Mike – I'll owe you one]

[Josh – Ok]

[Josh – Send me her profile info and when she'll be online. I'm too tired to do it today]

[Mike – Thanks! She'll be on around 1:00 PM tomorrow. Her name is Olivia, and her username is ~Olivionic~]

[Josh – Ok cool goodnight]

[Mike - Goodnight]

I looked at the time on my phone before turning it off and putting it on the table in front of the couch. I sat up; It was currently 9:48 PM. I stood up, stretched, grabbed my phone, and headed back to my room. Guess I'll go to bed, I am a bit tired after all.

I opened the door to my room only to be met with a disappointing sight. All of my VR equipment is on my bed. Ugh, I don't want to put this stuff away right now, but I guess I don't really have a choice.

I put away the equipment very lazily and went to bed.

-Later-

I logged into my Arcadia account and selected my character, xX-Tonic-Xx. I like how my character looks. He is clad in shiny silvery armor but the helmet didn't show in the menus; I made his face look as close to mine as possible, but I did give him white hair rather than the dark brown color I actually have.

The game had a transmogrification system [Transmog for short], which lets you replace the appearance of your armor with any armor you previously owned, so you could make it look like whatever you wanted without having to choose between appearance or defense.

Anyway, I still have about two hours until Mike said his sister would be on, so I guess I'll do some level grinding or something else in the meantime.

*Stab*

"Nice, good job, keep it up!"

*pant* "This game is pretty exhausting, huh."

"Well yeah. You have to actually move around and attack and other things like that, you're not just sitting down with a controller like in normal games."

Currently, I was in a low leveled area trying to get Olivia used to the game. She was fighting some goblins in the woods for a beginner quest. A perfect simple task for new players.

A sword swung down towards her. She didn't look like she was going to dodge, block, or parry, so I intervened. I equipped my bow and shot an arrow at the goblin attacking her. The arrow pierced its head and it fell to the ground before vanishing into a small pile of loot and particles.

"If you want to be great at the game you need great reflexes. You need to be able to react quickly to crucial situations."

"Yeah, I see that. Thanks."

"If you don't mind me asking, why can't you just take me to a high leveled area and let me get the last hit on enemies there?"

"Well I can, but since I don't want to I'm not gonna to do that."

"But whyyyyy??"

She whined.

"Well, if I do that you won't actually learn how to play the game, you'll just be powerful doing early quests and either have to learn how to properly play or ask for more handouts later."

*humph* "So now that the goblins are dead what do we do now?"

"Well we should go turn in the request and get your reward, then maybe do a few more of the beginner quests."

Unbeknownst to them, there were people lurking in the shadows of the woods; waiting for the perfect moment to strike.

"So how did you equip your weapon so fast?"

"Oh, that's hot swapping. You'll learn that la-"

"SURPRISE ATTACK!"

Two men jumped out of the woods and the one in front swung his sword toward Olivia. She raised her sword, but Josh stepped between them and took the man's attack. No damage was dealt; this wasn't because of Josh's superior stats and armor, but rather because of how the PVP (Player vs Player) system works in this game. When one person attacks another in a non-safe zone, it won't do damage, but rather issue a challenge that can be accepted by attacking back. These guys were probably hoping if they attacked people who didn't know better they would accidentally accept the challenge and get some free and easy gold.

The other man started going toward Olivia.

"Olivia, don't attack him!"

I quickly swung back at the man who issued the challenge and a red ring about 30ft wide appeared. Stepping out of it would cause an immediate loss and kill you.

I assessed my opponent. He looked to be part of the thief class; he had on a brown robe, and a black mask that covered the lower half of his face; the man also wielded two daggers. His equipment looks shabby, but that may just be to throw me off and underestimate him. The thief class specializes in speed with decent damage, but because of that, they have horrible defense stats. I usually like using a greatsword, but with how slow it swings I ought to use either a shortsword or gauntlets. I chose to use gauntlets. I quickly equipped my gauntlets which were white and had a sort of angelic look to them. I'm ready now.
