3 System Choice

Roy had to admit that he had never felt like this before.

There was a certain high that he got from moving his body.

He had been exercising in the park for an hour and was feeling more alive.

He was not exhausted at all and it felt like he could still go for dozens of rounds but gave up on the idea.

He was not stupid to do extra since the system just said 200.

There had to be a reason for that and it was getting late.

With how his mother was, if she arrived and found that he had yet to arrive, she might turn the whole house upside down.

Thinking of his mother, Roy could only sigh.

She was a pitiful woman with her own issues that she refused to talk about.

And these traumas had made her lose so many jobs that he had to look for more jobs to provide for both of them.

He felt fortunate that Grandma Wang was willing to hire her to assist in her coffee shop.

But he was sure there was more to that shop than meets the eye.

There was no way a dull shop in a corner like that could afford to hire so many people.

He always felt that there was some funny business going on there but did not want to bring himself more problems.

It was better to be thankful that she was willing to take care of his mother whose job was as a receptionist.

The only thing he was puzzled about was who she was welcoming. He had never seen a single customer enter the establishment.

After finishing his quota, he hurried home as it was almost time for Hanna to get off work.

[…]

When she arrived, Roy had already prepared dinner and set the table.

He knew that she loved his cooking although it barely met the health standards. But it was better than what she could make and always had a way of calming her down.

The memory of what she had gone through had always haunted her and anything could trigger them.

It was a good thing that her fits were not violent and only felt comfortable after seeing her son.

He might be a product of some dark shit but he was innocent and she loved him more than anything in the world.

She would have gone swimming in Tokyo Bay otherwise.

She was shocked by his changes but nothing stood out.

His face had always been handsome, more than that bastard, and the increase in height and mass slipped her mind.

All she knew was her son was by her side and that was enough.

Roy had been prepared for thorough questioning and had come up with various lies, some that even bordered insanity, but Hanna did not ask anything.

She enjoyed her meal with a bright smile as if it was the most delicious dish in the world and ignored everything else.

This made Roy feel sweet in his heart.

His mother might have a few screws loose, but she was the best he could wish for.

She had never complained when she was with him and he knew how much she loved him.

It was to a point that it was unhealthy but he did not mind.

With the things they had gone through together, he could overlook everything as long she was happy and safe.

Seeing her like this, his resolve strengthened and he was determined to sell his soul if it meant he could provide for his mother.

Looking at the panel he had ignored all this time, he chose to accept it and work to better their lives.

After cleaning, Roy accompanied his mother till she dozed off and he tucked her in.

This had become one of his duties and he was glad to do it.

Now he could sort out all the weird things that happened during the day.

[ Daily Quest Completed.

Reward: 250 Points.

New features will unlock at 1000 points.]

And just like that, Roy continued with newfound motivation.

His body was outrageous and he noticed that his intelligence attribute was improving every day.

His brain had also been leveled up as it was part of his flesh and he gain quite the memory and calculative power.

It was just that he did not flex it enough to know its limits.

He would wake up early in the morning to prepare breakfast for himself and his mother and after she left, he would wear one of his old suits and go look for work.

It was the usual but the only difference was that he attracted many weird gazes from the females and the males were straight-up hostile.

He also made sure to complete his daily quest before his mother got back.

Just like this, five days passed.

Roy was currently looking expectantly at the system as he waited for the reward distribution and the unlocking of features.

[1000 points target reached.

New features will be unlocked after you choose a path forward.]

'What does that mean?'

[The host can choose a reward-based system, mission-focused system, or milestone system.]

Roy had noticed that his system did not like talking to him.

It was as if it was looking down on him and wanted nothing to do with him.

He felt lucky that he did not provoke it at the start or his life might be hell.

After trying all sorts of ways to wrestle the information from the system, he finally got this:

The reward-based system is a system that would allow him to receive rewards after achieving something noteworthy. It did not matter whether it was a mission or just some lucky coincidence. As long as the system thought it was important, he would get a reward.

Roy rejected this immediately.

This was a great approach for beginners but the more he developed, the harder it was to achieve anything with great impact.

He might get many rewards in the beginning but it was not worth it.

Plus, his system did not seem to like him.
