1 Appraise Onion

I was ready to fight for the most powerful artifact of all. The legendary onion. The most powerful artifact an appraiser apprentice could appraise. This was the test to become a basic appraiser. In a room full of carrots one of them was the disguised legendary onion.

My opponent who competed against me was Jen. She was always a powerful foe and was my rival since the very start. We were born in the same village and raised in the same orphanage. We battled against each other every day with wooden swords.

Jen always beat me in a sword fight unless she or I was ill. For some reason when somebody was ill she got weaker and I got stronger. I had asked her previously and she had replied that this was the situation. However when appraising I usually won the matches. Don't tell her this but she mostly won when it was a special day or when I was ill. She had asked me previously and I told her she had talent.

As we grew up Jen grew taller and more beautiful. However, I was not so lucky. My face was a little below average and I could not develop defined muscles so my body looked a little chubby. Jen for some reason though never went out with a more handsome teen. She claimed it was because she had to put in her full efforts for our rivalry and could not afford to be distracted by love.

Back to the competition to appraise the onion I had found it but Jen had not yet. She was about to lose when for some reason she also found it and reported its location to the testing elder at the same time. The elder who was actually Jen's father decided that it would be a tie since it was reported at the same time. We both got our appraiser's badge which showed that we were both now basic appraisers.
