1 Chapter 1 : 6 Projects , Doom and Resistance
On an isolated island underground , a teenage girl breathes heavily staring at the corpses inside an office . She was captured and experimented on after they assumed that she has an antibody inside her .
But Belle resisted the many viruses they planted on her own . After escaping containment she killed all the guards and her flesh hardened thanks to fighting against the virus constantly giving her an advantage against them .
Belle looked around to watch one last scientist die " You don't know what you just caused . " " Preventing the survival of mankind ? Or obtaining the ultimate cure to your contagious virus and bla bla bla "
She lifted a drawer and hit the scientist with it ' They said something about the apocalypse coming in and yet they were the ones researching how to weaponize the virus themselves . ' she collects the files on every drawer and read them one by one .
The files contained research reports of the lab and the source of viruses which came from medicine tested by bio-related companies . Reports of the sick being infected with it lose control and started to cannibalize others infecting them too .
But some reports concentrated on Belle who used all the products of the companies and didn't show any signs of infection .
She was desperately looking for solutions to prevent getting nausea letting her extend her knowledge of biology and medicine . With this extended knowledge, she thirst for more as she needed more understanding of any related topics to the body thus obtaining control over her entire body .
With the ability she made stem cells produced faster and developed into any organs she pleases , nerves have a faster speed of channeling . But it still hurts ' I don't want to turn off any of my pain receptors or I'll get soft ' . So she trained her mental ability by pumping her heart faster than the human limit , sending false pain to her pain receptors .
" Terrible all of them are just backgrounds . " Belle placed back the files and took the laptop " Good thing I learned to hack because of those perverts . " she read the documents written in there and she learned about many projects and locations of the labs that try to weaponize the virus as a biological weapon .
She hacked into other servers secretly finding different groups interacting with the server " Hmm what is this ? " she found a separate program supported by different computers . " Project Genesis : The recreation ? " she was shocked to find the purpose of the project .
Project Genesis will launch once all labs are destroyed and nuclear bombs will explode once the number of survivors in nuclear shelter reaches a certain number " Luckily this lab wasn't destroyed I just made the cameras play a loop , the generator is still working and so are the computers . "
She planned for some things and concluded with a few " I can't let this lab be destroyed I also need to down any self-destruct functions and prevent anyone from cutting the connection of this lab to Project Genesis . "
But she delved deeper into the servers and found an even horrifying project " What ! " she reads the contents and fear rose " Project Apotheosis : Singular Ascension " she kept reading the contents as she feared the man behind this .
Project Apotheosis will launch once the virus research has reached a level to attain immortality " F*** That means whether it is Genesis or Apotheosis it will still be a bad ending then . " she slammed the table and sat back on the chair .
" Alright Belle you were the commander when there was a school shooting and no one died . You fixed the financial problems of schools shooting up the rate of economy circulating the country . You proved that college isn't necessary for success . "
She calmed down from the fear and didn't find Project Apotheosis very threatening " But it is a good thing the cameras are set at loop or they will find me . " she was very cautious of Apotheosis because if she is spotted she will be hunted down .
The only reason no one visited the lab today was that there was a regional problem with the satellites " I didn't think my selfish act saved me one day . " yes Belle used a telecommunications tower to mess the satellites downing long-distance signals around the region the lab just so happened to be in range because her house was close to the sea .
" Well at least I can still hack to the rest of the world . " finally the reason why she was afraid of the organization is . A murky green liquid flowed out of the corpse of the scientist " If I didn't have this then escaping containment would have been hard . "
She has control over the virus and used it as a bridge to let her control the corpse turning them back into stem cells . Since she has control over her body to change the stem cells into her desired cell she can do the reverse of it .
" If the Apotheosis has plans to initiate then it needs a great mind to absorb all the knowledge and virus to work but they won't stop at just kidnapping lab rats . " she closed the laptop after surfing the whole network of computers and made a serious expression " Who knows they may even cause a zombie apocalypse if necessary . "
She leaves the room and went to a chamber and found infected organs in tubes " This is a way to experiment without using too many of the organs in the human body . " then she opened a fridge and found a few organs .
" I can sell them at a black market and get financial support . " Belle took the organs into a box and left the lab it would take a boat to get to this isolated private island so she used a small shipping boat and drive back to the mainland .
It was night so the black market was booming in business she entered a big building and asked for any organ trading " Well then sir this is how much you can get . " Belle used a recording and played it so her disguise was perfected .
Belle entered a warehouse and opened a laptop " The organization used companies to supply food . They were supposed to be delivered as long as they log in but thanks to the satellite sabotage it was delayed . "
She logs in to the frontline company and received the order amount " Isn't this a lot of food for a few hundreds of scientists. " she hacks into the records of the computer and found the history .
" The previous order lasted for one year but this one can last for fifteen years . " Belle paced back and forth at the warehouse thinking of a possibility so she logs back into the network of computers and found it .
Project Holocaust : Viral Doomsday is a project made to assist in Project Apotheosis . With the new technology of using DNA as storage for computer data, the organization plans to use this to spread the DNA data of viruses through computers thereby infecting those using the medicines .
This can cause new specimens of infected organisms allowing further research of the virus . Causing more research to be completed and will soon accomplish Project Apotheosis .
She hacked into the project to find its contents . " Using the virus they plan to disguise it as a vaccine for the sick . Turning hospitals and homes into an infected den . "
" Sick they are f***ing sick " Belle heard an alarm and opened the gates there were containers that were ready to be shipped " How do you people sell all these products ? " " marketing " she perfected her act with a mask , voice and finally attitude " Impressive sir "
The containers are carried into the shipping boat ' Good thing I emptied the boat or else there won't be enough space . ' she drove the boat back to the island leaving the workers as they finished and received payment .
" Now back to the important issue since they are very ambitious to create of obtaining immortality I'll stop you . " she created a computer virus that sent random letters but these random letters are a portion of the DNA of her anti-bodies .
She wrote down in the book writing her plans for the projects Project Resistance : Vaccination .
Project Resistance : Vaccination with the Project Holocaust on the way a data virus will change the desired DNA into a vaccine to fight against the said virus .
" And to counter Project Genesis "
Project Survival : World Ark countering Project Genesis and made with the assistance of Project Resistance . Project Genesis will only activate if all labs are destroyed so one lab will be kept intact and Genesis will be guarded to prevent any changes to the project .
Signals will be sent out to gather life into nuclear shelters . Once no life on earth is detected the last lab will be destroyed initiating Project Genesis . When the atmosphere returns to normal , the nuclear shelter will start reproducing to fill up the planet with life .
" But Project Apotheosis can hardly be countered . " arriving at the island the container is moved to an air-tight warehouse above the doomsday bunker . " I'll need to store these containers inside else something bad is gonna happen . "
She opened one of them and found bags of seeds , insects in cages , lots of vegetables and saplings planted and instructional manuals on farming plants and insects . ' Insects do have a lot of protein compared to animals . '
She moved all the contents down to the floor where artificial sunlight was made . And making sure that the insects and plants will be taken care of automatically . " As for the rest , they have a cooling function installed so I will just leave it be . " she sat on a bench stretching her body .
" I need some way to counter Project Apotheosis or else life on the planet will be doomed for sure . " she closes the door and shuts it tight " This Project is the hardest to deal with I don't know who is going to be god . But if the project is initiated by machines then I suppose the to-be god is probably unconscious . "
" Or they make me think they are unconscious . " Belle disregarded the fact and won't accept being manipulated " Feels like that time I was kidnapped and they made me think this and that . Fortunately , They were arrested . " she closed the laptop and thought of another project .
Project : still pending to counter Project Apotheosis .
" For now this will do I'll go to the city to ensure everything is okay . " she locked the door and went to the lab " I need weapons too . " she took the notebook and placed it in the suitcase used for the organs .
She went to the lab and took a whiff of air " Smells just like blood at least they have some firearms on them . "
She went to the impaled corpse of a soldier and took his idea card. She scanned the ID and took a look at all the firearms " They expected an apocalypse . " she filled her suitcases with firearms .
"It's still dark but if they closed the supplies of food then they plan to send "vaccines" to the sick . " she took the laptop and looked at the initiated Project Resistance " For some time the vaccines will help some at least . "
After that she checked the initiated Project Holocaust and snickered gladly " But that's also good they will only make it harder for the virus to infect them . But the bad part is that they already have containers filled with the virus as long as they inject them they might be infected . They are trying so hard to attain Apotheosis . "
The vaccine Belle made wasn't very effective to prevent the possible mutation of an immortal virus " Still better than having the entire population get infected . " she readied her suitcases and a few cans of food .
" Back to the mainland I go . " she closed the entire island's facilities bringing out locked suitcases and driving the boat to the mainland " I need this boat to go back to the island but for now I will stay on the mainland and clean up the possible mutants that will appear . "
By the time she got to the mainland and it was dawn . Some people lined up to get vaccinated ' So it will start soon enough ? Sorry , I can't save you so save yourself . ' she put on make-up and went to the largest hotel in the city .
She opened the door and greeted a receptionist ' What a stunning beauty she looks like a model . ' Belle carried her suitcase and luggage roller to the receptionist " I would like to check in on the highest floor . "
' Wow , she is a model . ' Belle took the elevator and arrived at the 14th floor " This place is luxurious " ' If only the doomsday wasn't going to happen . '
' It's best if I have a high vantage point I can scope the area easily . Zombies may appear a few hours after injection . '
She entered the security system opening the cameras onto her screen " Cameras on the hallway , stairs , elevators and lobby . " she swapped her jacket and long pants with short pants and a sports bra covering the skin between her neck and shoulder and her chest while remaining breathable .
" Now I should just enjoy the sun until I hear anything about the infected . " she went to the rooftop laying down on a beach chair waiting " I see so the clothing designs were like this . " she reads a magazine while taking peeks at the cameras watching the stairs and lobby .
Hours pass then the city is having a zombie apocalypse she opened the TV and watched the news leisurely ' I locked the doors for only the inside to open so I can't be bothered by normal infected . '
" Reporting in people have become zombies and have killed many increasing their numbers . " Belle closed the TV sighing ' Why did I bother for hearing obvious news . ' she put on her long pants , jacket , rubber shoes and gloves .
She took a sniper and search the area with a rumble around " Of course in just a few hours there wouldn't be any possible mutants but it will be worth waiting . " she stayed right beside the railings looking for the rumble as she kept circling the rooftop .
The cameras showed hallways full of zombies and some were gathering at a door " There won't be mutants for a while so I can waste my time and exercise . " she went to the elevator outside her door drinking a glass of water holding a suitcase at one hand and locking her door .
' two-floor luxury is great no zombies even on the elevator . ' she went down the 13th floor and inspected the hallways she shattered the glass onto a vase making a loud noise " That should attract the zombies the hotel doesn't have many people so I can deal with the zombies for now . "
A few zombies rushed in " I don't need to waste any ammo on you all . " she used the shards of a vase and used it as a throwing weapon . She would occasionally bang zombies to a corner and dropped them beside the elevator and drop a vase on them .
Some zombies would pile up and trip trying to scratch her knee but she was wearing hard fiber . She stomped on them with her heel and slashed those who tried to jump at her with the shards .
She kicked back those behind her and bruised some with knuckles . She heard people screaming for help behind the door in front of the elevator . She kicked the door but felt it lock so she used an adrenaline rush and kicked it open .
Belle saw a group of people blocking zombies and infected guards ' So the guard tried to protect them and got infected . ' she threw a flashbang to the horde behind her and dashed forward . Bang the sound made the zombies turn their heads only to be blinded by the shards Belle swung .
She dealt with the zombies on the floor and quickly left without anyone seeing her . ' They wouldn't use the elevators because I already filled the way with zombies . ' she opened the door to the 12th floor and eliminated the zombies there quickly .
" Still no potential mutants should I have gone to a hospital " She kicked the last zombie to the stairs killing it " Sure there might be some mutation since there are some other viruses " she grabbed the notebook and made a list " hospital is a go , the pet store only has cubs and puppies no potential for mutation , but the cause of mutation would be the ratio of the amount to the body so ... "
She entered the city's security system to find any place to give her hints " The density of virus inside a body is determined by the amount of virus and the volume of the body ... What about the plants ? They reproduce differently than humans if the seeds were to be infected they might grow infected . "
She scanned the surroundings of the vaccination site and replayed the footage " Hmm they threw the leftover directly on plants " she smiled and found exactly what she needed .
' The original plan was to scout on top but this roof can be my base . ' she went to the elevator with some zombies blocking the way .
She took a car and fiddled with it " The hospital where the vaccination site was at . " thud , a zombie slapped its body on the glass "Do these things follow an instinct of hunting food ? "
She drove the car and rammed countless zombies on the way she heard screams and cries ' That just added fuel to fire of doom . If you are weak you die and perish . ' a man saved the crying child and bought them inside ' Then if you are foolish you will be used as food in a hungry world . '
She arrives at the parking lot and saw tables lined up ' They infected everyone in the city but good thing they also got vaccinated . ' she walked to a tree shinier than the others " What a small tree but they won't just stop on this ginseng might be used on some old folk creating a mutant though they are good at planning . "
' Pouring all the virus into the same and small plant to maximize the chances . ' " They even bought a pot to bring it to the hospital to allow the growth . " she stared at the two men who carried a pot to bring the little sapling inside .
' Seems like they heard my conversation . ' she shot those two before they could bring out their guns " Now to clean up the hospital . " she had to be cautious there might be zombies with the potential to mutate .
But this hospital has a lot of mentally unstable patients ' They may be cannibals or those who have voices at their head and will stay under control even when a virus invades their bodies . It will just be a few nerves losing control and they will remain in control thanks to having an abnormal brain . '
She went to the operation room ( This is a mental hospital so there will be life-saving equipment like the defibrillators where electricity is charged to reset someone's heart , a device that uses magnets to remove foreign objects and an X-ray that can harm a person with the electromagnetic waves it releases . )
' Mentally sick , possibly infected and finally all these tools inside even if they have the least possibility of mutation it will be dangerous for them to successfully mutate . ' she took scalpels with her and reads some files by the drawer for a few minutes .
" Come out come out wherever you are . " a voice was heard from the outside ' Jinxed , This is a patient 18 middle-aged former soldier afflicted with PTSD and she has undergone many X-ray scanning and her heart was reset many times and survived ... she developed electric resistance thanks to it . '
' What kind of mutant will she turn into if she were to be infected with a dense amount of virus ? ' Belle jumped back and attached a silencer and pointed the gun at her . But the zombie sensed it and ducked down dashing at her ' Experience seems to retain because she was a soldier . ' .
Belle grabbed an injection and injected it into the zombie immobilizing her " You were a good soldier . " she stabbed the head and turned to look at the lighted hallways . She continued to find any "sane" people then inside she heard a shivering voice .
' Please don't be a mutant ' she loaded her weapons and sneaked to the door while pinpointing the voice . Inhale , she kicked the pushed the knob quickly and pointed her gun under the table but all she saw was a girl who was sane but infected although only Belle could tell from the virus response in the girl's body .
' Patient 10 is a little girl who was in a comatose state when she was young because of the expensive treatment the rich parents paid the hospital for her body to stay healthy as before . '
"Where're my parents ? " ' Luckily she is not a mutant but a good variant . ' she saw Belle's beauty which gave her the courage to ask ' Her parents must be that couple at the hotel by now they should have left the building . ' " Don't know " ' Moreover she is infected but sane , no zombies would want to kill her but any of her body fluids can slowly infect victims . '
" Little girl , In the future, do not bite anyone or else they will hate you . " she leaves the room and locks it from the inside to prevent anyone from getting in ' she'll survive with the food I gave her . ' Belle enters deeper and blocks the hallway with wheelchairs and stretchers .
A clean shattering sound came from the stares " There might be some survivors hearing the sounds . " She peeked at the stairs and saw a man in a coat ' A doctor huh ' she went up and assisted the doctor .
" Who are you " " Eyes on them doctor " she pulled a zombie and bashed them to the window frame destroying their face " Here's the deal patient 10 : girl on comatose is locked from the inside " she kicked a zombie outside impaling it with a pole by fall " Take her outside she had the virus but is still sane , Zombies won't approach and kill her because of the virus in her body . "
Belle pushed the doctor to the corner and destroyed the glass taking the ax out " Escort her to the 5-star hotel there you will see a few traces of survivors lead them to a shelter . " she swung the ax onto the zombies but they were piling up .
" Try to research on a sample of her body and maybe you can make a virus that won't infect you and let you go past zombie hordes . " Belle never gave him time as she was talking and killing at the same time .
" What there is a zombie apocalypse ? " " A viral injection . They supposedly told everyone that the virus is vaccines but only one of the pair was sabotage which is the real vaccines . " she pulled the last zombie and struck its head sending it out the window .
" It caused mutations and the girl down there might have a good variant she probably was injected with the virus and she won her battle against coma and the virus . " " Then what is the government doing ? " Belle gave the ax to the doctor responding to him " They built a nuclear shelter where all of you will have to stay until all zombies are dead . "
" Nuclear shelter ? " " Don't know where it is but gather some blood packs there is a functioning car outside use it to get to the shelter and register yourself as a doctor at the same time find her parents they exert a lot of influence on the government . " she handed him a gun and ammunition .
" Also try not to use a gun too much it will attract humans and zombies . Leave now and don't mess with the blockage I made . Use the door beside and make sure that the door leading out is locked inside . " " Thank you miss " ' I can trust this man he was someone who desperately studied to help his sick family . '
Belle opened her luggage and examined the two fallen zombies ' No potential mutation, unlike that girl . ' she got out of the stairs and stood on the second floor ' Pretty much empty already after that doctor tried to escape through the stairs .
' As a mental hospital the stairs are closed with gates to prevent crazy patients from falling off the stairs . ' she rolled the gate and locked the access between the second floor and the stairs . ' Of course , the zombies up there will try to break the gates soon enough but it will take a while to get to it . '
Belle went and look at the broken equipment ' So I will kill all the zombies for the sake of making blood packs easier to access . "
