8 Back to the city

When Davis heard the notification from the system, he stopped manipulating the Anti-Energy as a surge of fatigue and powerlessness hit him.

It seems that using the Anti-Energy has a side effect on his body, the system told him that he has to make his body stronger to fully use this energy. He still had 20 unused attribute points, he just needed to train and fight more so his attributes could increase.

" System, how could such a high leveled beast appear within 3 days? don't you think that was a bit fast?" Davis leaned on a tree to recover his strength, then asked the system.

[[ Since the beasts below level 100 can't use skills, the holy core gave them an easy way to level up and evolve faster, unlike intelligent species that could use skills and equipment. The system is fair to all living creatures, you can close the gap between you and the fast evolving beasts by buy skills and equipment]]

"So that's how it is, it isn't easy to survive in such a world now" Davis sighed with a helpless voice.

[[ host should be mindful that once you reach level 10 you won't be able to level up as easy as it is now, you must work hard to keep up with the changes, good luck]]

Davis shook his head and sighed, he would do all of his power to be stronger and protect his loved ones.

After a ten minutes break, Davis recovered his stamina and his injuries had fully healed, he started walking, sometimes running when there were no obstacles, it took him almost 2 hours of running and killing before he reached the mountain summit.

The jungle had invaded the Green city, it had become greener than necessary. Everything seemed to be affected with plants, streets, houses, even the sewers were now fertile places for these plants to grow.

' Why are there no lights?'After seeing the situation, Davis asked, " System, does the electricity still work?"

[[ After your world protective barrier has been expired, it was no more a causally closed system, which means almost all your previous knowledge and its applications stopped working ]]

" What?! Does that mean there is no more electricity, internet? What about the communication system? if they stopped working, then we are in deep trouble" Davis asked with surprised tone.

[[ No more working ]]

Davis could sense the roaming beasts in his surroundings, he could also sense new existences. He could feel people walking in the dark night, but they somehow leaked the aura of death, they kept growling and whining.

Davis, walking under the red moons, feeling the gloomy atmosphere and hearing the growls made his mood exacerbate, wherever he walked, he could only find undeads. Davis tried his best to avoid them, he didn't really want to kill them since they were humans before.

Yet, when they gathered around him, his only solution was to kill them, and that's what he did. Using his short swords, he made heads fly wherever he went, the cursed undeads were like normal humans, except for their bloody rotten smell and stiff movement.

However, they were quiet though as they didn't fall after he stabbed their vital organs, only by cutting their head or destroying their brain that the system notification was heard.

[[ you have killed a level 1 cursed undead ]]

[[ you have received : 50 exp + 50UC ]]

[[ you have killed a level 2 cursed undead ]]

[[ you have received : 100 exp + 100UC ]]

[[ you have killed a level 1 cursed undead ]]

[[ you have killed a level 2 cursed undead ]]

[[ you have received : 100 exp + 100UC ]]

Most of the undeads levels were from level 1 to level 4 and there wasn't a big gap between the levels, they were not as strong as the mutated beasts of the same level. However if you get surrounded by more than what you could handle, you would be done for.

The rewards he got from killing the undead didn't contain additional items like the ones he got from the mutated beasts.

To avoid being surrounded, Davis kept passing by the less crowded streets, he was able to avoid the larger groups making things a lot easier for him, but he never let his guard down, he knew that once he was surrounded, that would be the end for him.

Even though the buildings could not be recognized anymore due to the plants that have grown and covered every part of the streets, Davis had the mini map that showed his localisation and the localisation of the people he asked the system to find earlier.

Following the direction where Elina was, Davis made his way in this no more familiar city, street after street, he kept bumping into undead forcing him to kill them again. It was really a cursed plague, Davis really didn't like the idea of killing to get stronger, but he had no other choice. The world now was ruled by the strong, if he wasn't strong enough, his only fate would be death, and he didn't wanna experience that feeling again, at least until he fulfilled his dreams and lived his life to the fullest.

After 15 minutes of killing and sneaking around, he finally stopped as he sensed that the direction ahead was blocked. A barrier was formed by thousands of undeads, maybe even tens of thousands, their footsteps and heavy breathing sounds could be heard from far away.

Davis was trying to enter a house and reach its roof to get a full view of the area ahead. 'Why are they gathering there? Hmm, it seems that I have reached the city center, this the only explanation for this massive crowd of undeads'.

Finding it a bit hard to open the door without making a sound, Davis used his sword to cut the annoying vines while cursing " Damn it, everything has mutated, making life really difficult for us".

When he entered the house, Davis was attacked by two undeads, they were a woman and a little girl, he swung his sword killing the mature one, but he couldn't get himself to finish the young one, she seemed to be 11, 12 years old and was looking at him with her lifeless eyes, He kept dodging her inside the messy house, but the little girl kept making noise by bumping on the furniture, forcing Davis to finish her with a stab in the head. His heart became heavy, watching the little girl that had her eyes still open, he remembered that he had a hand in launching this apocalypse, even though he just made things faster, but the lingering bitter feeling in his heart made his mood worse.

He went to the roof and sat on the edge of the building, he stared at the sky with a blank expression. He brought something like cigarettes from the shop, the flavor was a bit stronger than what he had smoked before, but that was better, since he wanted to distract his mind from this awful situation.

A few minutes later, Davis was jumping from building to building, his physique and strength became more powerful, so jumping a distance of 15 meters wasn't a problem for him.

His mind was a bit calmer now, he was getting closer to the crowd of the undeads. "It seems that they are gathering at the principal road"

The principal road was cutting the city in half, you can say that it was the lifeline of Green city, as the most important buildings are at its sides. The principal road was crowded with people before, and now it was also crowded, but with dead walking people.

Davis was squatting on the roof of a 3 storeys building, surveying the road with a face that was a mix of shock and fear, seeing the large numbers of undeads felling up as far as his eyesight can reach, the principle road that was once a lifeline of the city was now a death road separating the city into two halves. He was terrified because he knew that with his current strength, he would be a dead meat if he was surrounded with such a massive crowd of undeads.

Davis pondered about how to pass this death road without being noticed seeing that there is no way to get through to the other side. He can just go out of the city and take the long way making a detour, but that would take a lot of his time.

He kept surveying the road and its sides, trying to find a place that was less crowded. Jumping from roof to roof in this dark night made him look like some kind of ninja or assassin.

Finally, after 30 minutes of jumping, Davis reached a place less crowded and he was surprised for moment since he could see a lot of corpses laying without moving, he first was confused as the corpse should be turned to undead, but a realization came to his mind, it seems that some survivor had started to adapt to this apocalypse and killed this undead.

Davis went down to the street from the back door of the building, he kept moving in the shadow of the buildings, observing the still moving undead, he was trying to find who killed them.

'If my guess is right, this should be the street leading to the police department to the right side of the road', Davis thought as he kept watching the surroundings.

Not far from where he was hiding, a barricade made of cars and big bags that seemed to be full of sand, maybe cement, the barricade was like a wall keeping away the undead that separated from the crowd and were roaming in this street.

Davis could see a lot of corpses scattered around here, but next the barricade had most of the corpses piled up, while the still 'alive' undeads were stepping on the corpses to climb the tall wall of the barricade.

He kept getting close as he silently killed the nearby undead without making a sound, he was getting used to hiding his presence, his 'natural hunter' title had a really good knowledge about surviving stuff.

The cars, trucks and sand and cement sacks were parked closely making a solid defense, Davis was now about 10 meters away from the wall, he was hiding behind a car that was half inside a house, it seemed like this happened when the Apocalypse started.

Davis could sense people standing on the trucks and cars, stabbing the undeads with long sticks and spears. He really felt happy that humans were strong and didn't easily surrender and were fighting for their survival.

Davis observed the survivors above the barricade, they were ten people standing above the wall, some of them kept killing the undeads while others just stood there without doing anything.

He went silently to a nearby survivor who just killed an undead. He could actually sneak in with his high state without being noticed, but he thought that getting in like that may be a bit disrespectful. When he was close enough he called in low voice making the man jump in fright. " Hey friend, could you please let me in?"

The man raised his long stick looking at the source of the voice "Sh- shit man! did you just came of nowhere?"

The man was really frightened as he was keeping his guard all the time, since the undead could climb the wall anytime, but he didn't even see where the man came from .

"Don't worry friend" Davis said rising his hand up, "I just want to see the one in charge"

The man relaxed a bit seeing that the foreigner had no ill intention, " Please wait, I'll go see the one in charge".
