Boss

Thinking about this, he lowered his head to look at the previously injured part of his body. It had already healed, probably due to the body's enhancement and automatic healing. However, if he gradually regained his senses, would he faint when facing such a severe injury in the future?

These thoughts flashed through his mind, but now the most crucial thing was to figure out what was going on with this beer bottle. After the explosion subsided, Clark finally breathed a sigh of relief. Olivia Turner also got out of the car and took the initiative to help him remove the glass shards from his back.

"Thank you!" Clark said, then walked to the gate and shouted loudly, "Are there any survivors inside? If so, please let us in. We were sent by the Allied Forces!"

There was no response from the mansion. After a while, the iron gate creaked open a crack.

"Support her and follow behind me," Clark said, taking strides through the gate and towards the mansion.

The gate wouldn't open for no reason, and the extent to which it opened was just enough for one person to pass through. This already indicated that there were indeed people in the mansion, controlling the gate. The beer bottle thrown earlier was also likely from them. But why did it appear completely abandoned on the surface?

Clark took a few more steps inside. "Stop!"

A rough voice came from the dilapidated building, followed by a sturdy-looking guy cautiously emerging from the darkness. After confirming that only Clark and the two others had arrived, he fully stepped out.

John watched Clark vigilantly. It had been a long time since anyone had come here, and Clark and his companions were now the ones he needed to figure out.

"I've already said, we were sent by the Alliance soldiers. This injured woman is the captain of the Alliance!" Clark spoke, and Olivia Turner had already brought Emma Kensington over.

Seeing Emma Kensington's attire, John relaxed his guard slightly. "I don't know about any captain, but she is indeed dressed as a soldier. Okay, come in!" John waved his hand, signaling Clark and the others to come in.

"Hold on!" a somewhat sharp voice suddenly sounded, and then a thin man rushed out, standing next to John like a monkey. However, his position was somewhat behind, deliberately wary of Clark.

"The boss said not to bring them in directly. Remember, check if they have weapons first!" Robert arrogantly commanded John.

"But there's a soldier among them!" John obviously didn't want to follow Robert's arrangement; he respected Alliance soldiers.

"Do you dare not to follow orders?" Robert sneered, not in a good mood. "Believe it or not, I'll report to the boss and have you dealt with!"

"Whatever!" John didn't give in but walked towards Clark and his group. "Follow me. I see this female soldier is injured; we need to treat her quickly."

"You bastard, I think you're itching for a fight!" Robert shouted, looking frustrated, but he didn't dare to actually come over to stop them.

Clark glanced at Robert disdainfully, then led Olivia Turner and others to follow John.

Chapter 9: When You Hit Someone, Hit Their Face

"It seems like there's someone trying to be a king here," Clark joked.

Robert seemed at best like a vicious dog, not daring to bite. The one he referred to as the 'boss' was what Clark cared about most. Where there were people, there was a power structure. Clark didn't want trouble, but he also wasn't afraid of it.

Guided by John, the three of them arrived at the entrance to the garage. This entrance was also sealed tightly with a large iron gate. John shouted, and the gate creaked open.

"Come in!" John went in first.

Originally a parking garage, it had been converted into a temporary residence. Due to the lack of electricity, the ventilation system had stopped working, making the air inside a bit pungent.

In the garage, a few scattered candles were burning, and some figures slowly appeared before Clark.

"Quick, come help! This soldier is injured and needs treatment urgently!" John shouted.

Several women walked over, helping Olivia Turner place Emma Kensington on a bed. Then others brought some clean cloth and began wiping her body.

"She has lost a lot of blood. If there aren't enough medications here, don't touch her wound to avoid causing secondary harm. Give her some food and water to replenish her energy." Olivia Turner clearly knew more about medical and first aid than these people.

A few individuals looked troubled.

"Food and water are rationed for each person, and without William's approval, we can't get anything," a woman gritted her teeth, feeling reluctant to speak.

As she spoke, someone beside her touched her, signaling her not to speak out of turn. "William is who? Why are you all so afraid of him?" Clark thought of the guy named Robert from earlier. Could William be the boss he mentioned?

"No worries, I'll get it," John didn't think much and went up the stairs to the side.

Clark and Olivia Turner sat by Emma Kensington's bed. The atmosphere suddenly became tense, and everyone fell silent.

"I don't know what happened here, why these people are so afraid of this William," Olivia Turner whispered to Clark. She observed that there were about a hundred people in the garage, mostly young and middle-aged, looking thin. But this also reflected the fact that the elderly, sick, and disabled might have been killed on their way here. Those visible were the fortunate survivors.

"We have a bit of water here; give it to her." The woman who spoke earlier approached quietly and handed Olivia Turner a bottle with very little clear water.

"Thank you," Olivia Turner took it and gave Emma Kensington a sip.

"What's going on here? It seems like everyone is afraid of this William," Olivia Turner asked softly, trying to keep her voice down.

"In fact, William is just like us, waiting for rescue after escaping here. But the Alliance soldiers haven't come for a long time. One day, William suddenly said he received a message from the Allied Forces and that he would lead us. Later, he consolidated all the supplies in his hands, distributing food and water to everyone daily. Those who obeyed him could get more, and those who didn't got nothing. This way, everyone dared not disobey him," the woman spoke nervously, afraid that her words might be overheard.

However, the garage had poor ventilation, and it was so quiet around that even though the woman spoke softly, people could hear. They just kept their heads down, remaining silent.

It turned out to be a case of bullying, using the opportunity to consolidate resources and then threatening everyone with those resources. Clark suddenly understood what was going on.

At this moment, John came down, looking somewhat embarrassed. Behind him was Robert, who seemed a bit arrogant compared to John.

"Hey, newcomers, the boss wants to see you two! Hurry up!" Robert put his hand on his waist, becoming more and more triumphant. His voice was loud, standing out against the silence of the others.

Clark and Olivia Turner stood up and walked over.

"This chick looks not bad," Robert stared at Olivia Turner.

Before he could finish his sentence, a loud slap resounded. Clark gave him a solid slap, and he almost staggered, taking several steps back, leaning against the wall to steady himself.

"What's wrong? Is there nothing here?" Clark asked anxiously.
