Glass Houses

Kai is taking things easy these days. Currently he is laying down on the fluffy sitting area carpet surrounded by toys and playing with the two babies. He really loves their shining brown eyes. They look like the brightest gem, sparking with innocence pulling at his heart strings.

Kai would occasionally go out to monitor the progress on glass house construction outside. The entire place outside the villa area has been transformed into a flat level land with several fruit trees near the forest area. They are still just saplings for now but the future looks bright. Kai thought to plant them even with the snow falling heavily because he is certain the following weather will be even more unfavorable for working out doors.

"Young master Kai, it is time for their baths." Paige said reaching for Vania while her sister reached for Nathaniel. Kai decided to allow the two women to look after his children, this way even though they don't have a mother, they will not lack anything.

"Alright. Behave well, daddy is going to work now." He gave each child a kiss and walked out of the villa. He has monitoring devices that will alert Phil if something wrong happens to his children.

His bracelet vibrated. "Kai, can you come over for dinner?" Wang Yan asked Kai.

"My apologies I simply have a prior arrangement." Kai spoke flatly but the tone is polite as if talking to a stranger.

"It is your mother who wants to see you and thank you for curing her disease." After sighing helplessly Wang Yan tried to convince Kai.

"Think nothing of it. If you'll excuse me." He dropped the call. Kai's expression morphed into a hideous snarl. It is very difficult for him to maintain his composure when it comes to the woman. For some reason there is a deep longing for her in his heart. He doesn't understand why it is so.

He has concluded that she must be some sort of emotional trigger for him. He must have really loved her in the past but Kai is presently determined to move forward. Something like sentiment to a person who has an entire family of her own will only stand in his way.

What he understands about himself is that he wants to make money and turn this place into a beautiful place where his twins will play and enjoy themselves. Just as he is walking he remembers the conversation he had with the Ye twins when he returned from the hospital.

The twins left for a week now going back to the isolated village they had come from. Kai allowed them to do as they pleased since he didn't need them here urgently.

The hospital has been open for a few days now and many people have started hunting zombies for the crystal nuclei so they can get medicine either for themselves or their loved ones.

Phil and a few other residents had helped Kai to create a safe with an automated calculator that will bill and receive payments. There is a scan in the mouth of the safe and a screen to show how much payment was received before printing a receipt. This way Kai doesn't have to worry about being scammed of all his money by humans.

The leader of the base has been trying to contact Kai but always get the cold answering machine whenever he calls because Kai is worried the man will want him to build him a robot beast like June.

However when Kai received a message left in his voicemail he finds out that the base leader wants to invite him to a banquet that will celebrate finally having a hospital especially since it has all the medications in demand at the base but Kai calls back and declines.

He reminds the base leader that he isn't a people's person and that if someone annoyed him something awful may take place in that banquet. The base leader remembers how he turned someone to ashes and left him be. But asked that he makes a public appearance at least once every now and then on his own terms and Kai agrees.

Kai realized that with his people outside the space, he only has robots who can only put the robot parts together but he still needs others to put the synthetic material on the robots. He decided to employ his new found analysis prowess due to Phil's presence to upgrade his robots to a level that can handle delicate work just like his three nannies.

Just like that, as the people in the villa and the villa area residents were starting to get used to him, he vanished again. This time he took an entire month to come back. When he did, the snow had started falling even heavier on the ground making it impossible for the outside work to continue.

It was by luck that Kai has pushed for the glass houses to be finished before allowing the green grass to be planted on the villa area. In the end only the glass house project was finished in time.

On a positive note, the people are delighted to see the various crops growing healthy inside the glass houses he had built. However, the entire base is not pleased with Kai because they all want the glass houses he had built but Kai was no where to be found.

"Kai, the base leader is outside the door." Phil informs him. He is shocked to know that a busy person like the base leader would come to him personally.

The moment after entering, the four people felt a rush of warm air heating them up causing them to take off their extra clothes.

"This place is amazing." Lady Yang said marveling at the cozy atmosphere. A distance a way is two small twin babies lying down playing with toys. Not far from them is the two Caretakers who are responsible for their well being.

"You have children? They are adorable." Commander Zheng said in a raspy voice making everyone giggle that even the iron steel Zheng can not escape the cuteness of babies.

"Yes. Vania and Nathaniel Waters. They will grow up strong." Kai said proudly.

"Now I understand why a shut in guy like you would bother taking over a territory at all." Lady Yang said as Kai lead them to his study.

Kai's study is spacious enough for all of them to fit but they are amazed by the mature feel of the entire place.

"I am assuming you want glass houses?" Kai doesn't feel like entertaining them for too long so he initiates the topic.

"Yes, even the ones that are not here want glass houses but we feared you will feel cornered if everyone came." Base leader Wen Hun said, Kai can not believe that someone's voice can be so attractive. What's even more bizarre is that he got turned on just hearing him speak.

He got suspicious of the man thinking he might be using some sort of ability on him. "Do you have soil?"

They are confused by his question so Kai explained that they can not use any of the current soil because it is contaminated and need to either find the soil in the plant shops or alternatives. This information makes them realize that they may not be ready to have glass houses after all.

"We were also wondering if you can sell the animals to us at some point so that we can also have meat." Commander Zheng said, to which Kai told them that there is plenty of meat in the forests that is mutated.

It will provide them with buffs such as increase in strength, they will also have less trouble using their abilities depending of which meat they eat. He assured them that the mutated meat is safe to consume.

Moreover the mutated meat is very delicious because of the supernatural powers coursing through their bodies. What he has is spirit meat that has been raised eating spirit food and water. Therefore it is in short supply and very expensive.

Upon hearing that he has spirit food they are all amazed and want to buy it. Luckily for them Kai is planning on building a small market where he will sell his superior products in the main base soon.

"I heard spirit food is priceless." Wen Hun said surprised. Kai just smiled and told him he has a computer that helps him accurately measure the worth of all his products.

"Do you have any conditions for helping us with glass houses?" The room became silent. They are aware of his conflict with the Wang family, the Huo family and the Wu group whose leader he burned in the last meeting.

In their minds they are ready to even chase these people out of the base if it means growing more food. Kai instead just writes down the list of materials required for him to produce glass for them.

There are prices for each glass house depending on the size. He will begin work as soon as they get him the materials and the money.

The fourth person who had come along is Huo Jun, he had thought Kai would refuse to build them a glass house. He was willing to beg him if necessary.

However he saw Kai not pay him any mind there is no hostility or friendship between them, it is as if Kai has moved on from their conflict so when the meeting finished he asked to stay behind.

"You like Wen Han." Huo Jun said as a matter of fact

"He is attractive." Kai admitted. "But I don't know what to do with that."

"You are suspicious of him. He is a cultivator, what he cultivates is a charm technique, he has a very high affinity for it which is why he is very strong able to become the base leader." Huo Jun said.

"Thank you. I thought I was going crazy. This didn't happen the last time I saw him so I was confused." Kai admitted.

"He probably launched it so you can have a favorable impression of him and help him. If I had it I would do it as well. Having a stable supply of food during times like these is very important, no tricks are off the table." Huo Jun admitted.

"There was no need for him to do this though, I just want money." Kai chuckled.

"Are you not holding a grudge against me?" Kai suddenly asked.

"I don't know. But I know that You are needed so there won't be any trouble from us. At least from the time being." Huo Jun said but he is aslo warning him that his family has not let go of the past, Kai is is grateful for his warning.

"Why did you want to stay behind?" Kai asked him.

"I was asked to request that you reconsider the marriage between you and Gin."

"I can reconsider. But not her." Kai walked towards him until he is close enough to feel his breath.

"I want you." Kai said. Huo Jun's ears turned red, he felt his heart rate increase. He has no idea what is happening. "One little kiss." Kai said looking at his lips longingly.

"I am sorry, I don't like guys." Huo Jun sighs at the other boy for being bipolar. Even if he liked men which he doesn't, he wouldn't be with someone who can ruthlessly shoot him and have his father gutted on the ground.

"I understand. But we can be friends no?"

"I am sorry. You almost cost me my father that day." Huo admitted.

Kai explained calmly that Huo Jun should know that had it been someone else and not his family, he would have had every one of the 5800 soldiers killed and their meat sent to feed the animals in the forest. But he only killed half hoping to send a message to never points and shoot at him again.

These ominous words combined with Kai's expression made Huo Jun believe that it is true. Kai had spared his family that day.

The operation glass houses commenced as soon as the leaders delivered the materials. Kai is surprised because the weather is really bad outside so how did they manage to do it?

But he shouldn't be too surprised because even the giant wall around the city was completed during his absence. This structure gave people a new sense of safety.

Kai decided the bad weather will allow him to work free of prying eyes since people are even putting up cardboards to block their windows. He took out the already manufactured glasses and began work.

The ground is the most troublesome part since it needs to be dug up and a metal plate is put there to block the natural soil from coming in contact with the transplanted soil.

He had built 22 large glass houses in 9 days and now what the base leaders needs is soil. Kai is paid but only in part, almost 50% of the payment is missing but he will get it.

Kai uses the new money to arm the new 25 thousand soldiers his new manufacturing system has built for him during the time he was working on glass houses. The only reason the manufacturing process halted is because there is not enough cleaning robots to put together anymore.

The energy is not overly excessive when combined with Kai's new laser guns design that is specifically made to accommodate the pure energy from the purified zombie cores. Kai manufactured tens of different types of guns to be better suited for his new battery system.

Kai is still counting days until he is paid back all his money for the glass houses when the animals in the forest behind his villa area start grouping to attack the human settlement for food.
