12 Conflict

The two of them walked into the farm.

"Boss, he is here." The man leading Lorne spoke to the sealed metal door.

The moment he finished speaking, the metal door slowly opened and the manager walked out.

"I'm the boss here. Are you the one who wants to exchange for supplies?" the manager asked Lorne.

"Yes, that's right. I need a batch of live poultry and some meat that can be stored easily. I can exchange them with vegetables," Lorne said to the manager.

"Come in with me. The supplies are inside." The manager did not say anything else after hearing what Lorne said. He turned around and returned to the shelter.

Lorne looked at the manager who was slowly walking inside and a trace of doubt flashed across his eyes. Why was there blood on the corner of this man's protective suit?

Lorne adjusted the crossbow in his hand, braced himself, and cautiously followed him in.

"Ah!"

The moment Lorne walked in, a black shadow suddenly pounced at him.

Lorne panicked and quickly dodged to the other side. Then, he aimed his crossbow at the person who was charging at him and shot.

He quickly took out another bolt and loaded it.

The man who lunged at Lorne let out a painful scream.

"You're not the owner of this farm. Who the hell are you people?" Lorne snapped at the manager with his crossbow.

Lorne finally saw the sight in the room.

He saw a man and a woman who were tied up in a corner and collapsed on the ground. Blood was flowing out from under their bodies. It seemed that they had just been killed.

There was a man in the room with a knife that was stained with blood. Lorne finally understood that these people too were here to search for supplies.

However, they were different from him. He wanted to use supplies to exchange for supplies. These people were like bandits who directly entered the house and killed the original owner of this place.

"Useless. You can't even catch a person. What's the point of having you?" The manager said angrily to the man who was lying on the ground and wailing.

"Kid, if you want to blame someone, blame yourself for choosing the same place as us to search for supplies. So, we can only silence you," the manager said coldly.

"All of you, attack! This kid only has one crossbow. He cannot fire many bolts," the manager said to his subordinates.

Lorne had previously guessed that because of the arrival of the apocalypse, some people would break their moral code. But he had not expected to meet them so soon.

"Whoever kills this person, I'll reward him with a third of these supplies." The manager saw that his subordinates were hesitating, so he promised a huge reward.

Hearing the manager's words, the men's eyes shone with greed. They were tempted.

After all, the reason they came out to search for supplies was because there was not enough food in their shelter. That was why they took the risk to come out.

If they could get a third of the supplies, they would be able to go back to the base and relax for a while, and their family wouldn't starve.

"Ah!"

Finally, one of the lackeys could not resist the temptation and charged towards Lorne with a knife.

Bang!

Lorne quickly pulled the trigger and shot the man who was charging at him to the ground. Then, he quickly loaded another bolt onto the crossbow.

"Even if you want to take the supplies, you have to be alive to enjoy it. Think about it, even if you want to kill me, do you think I can't shoot through your protective suits before I die?"

"Think again. If you die, what kind of treatment will your wives and children receive?"

Lorne spoke loudly to the men who were approaching him.

The few people who were tempted before were reminded by Lorne's words. That's right, even if they caught this person, they would definitely not be able to avoid being injured, and it would only benefit others.

Hence, the few people who wanted to attack Lorne stopped and surrounded him.

"Friend, we came out to search for supplies like you. However, the owner of this farm did not cooperate with us, so we had no choice but to resort to other methods."

"How about we sit down and have a good talk?"

The manager, who was hiding behind the cabinet in the living room, saw that his subordinates were frightened by Lorne. He could no longer sit by and watch, so he shouted at Lorne.

"What do you want to talk about?" Lorne touched the bolts in his bag. There were about a dozen left.

Looking at the number of people in the house, plus the manager, there were only seven people. With his speed, Lorne was confident that the other party could not threaten him.

"Since both of us are searching for the resources here, this is fate. How about we split the resources here equally?" The manager slowly walked out from behind the cabinet.

Lorne watched the manager walk out from behind the cabinet and immediately aimed his bow at him. Then, he slowly walked to a relatively safe spot where he could observe everyone.

"How did you get into this shelter?" Lorne asked curiously.

"We pretended to be law-enforcement officers first. When the door was opened, we barged in and subdued them," the manager replied.

"It's a very simple and practical method." The manager's words also reminded Lorne that he could not open the door to anyone else in the future, not even if they called themselves law enforcers.

"Friend, what do you think of my suggestion?" the manager asked sincerely.

However, upon closer inspection, one would notice that the manager's eyes were flashing with greed as he looked at the crossbow in Lorne's hand.

If he could get his hands on this crossbow, his strength would increase tremendously. A longing appeared in the manager's mind.

"I don't think so. I want all the supplies here."

"Friend, you're being difficult. You should know that we have seven people here. If we attack together, you won't be able to attack all of us."

The manager said coldly.

"Oh, well, let's see which of you wants to be the first scapegoat. Wanna guess if my next bolt hits you in the thigh or the head?"

Bang!

As soon as he finished speaking, Lorne pulled the trigger. A bolt shot directly into the head of the person who had ambushed Lorne earlier. That person died instantly.

Then Lorne quickly loaded his crossbow and aimed it at the manager.

Lorne could tell that the manager wanted to incite his subordinates to charge at him together, so he could only use a more ruthless method to intimidate them so that he would not be in danger.

"Who wants to test the power of these bolts next?" Lorne said loudly.

The manager and the rest were also stunned by Lorne. They did not expect this young man to be so ruthless.
