19 Evolution once again

"Back already?" Spike smiled, accustomed to the mute figure before him. As long as there was food to bring back, nothing else really mattered. It was like a consolation; grabbing Shaun's backpack with a friendly gesture. He opened it and found a whole bunch of food inside. Bottled water, chips, compressed biscuits...

"Did you work hard these past few days? You don't have to go out today!" Shaun was taken aback. Working hard for evolution points? He shook his head rapidly, as if in protest against being told not to go.

"Stay here today. We're all very grateful to you!" A female classmate stood up, her eyes teary.

"Yeah, yeah! We're all so thankful to you!" Everyone got up, their dirty faces showing gratitude.

Amidst the apocalypse, this level of awareness was truly remarkable. Shaun had unwittingly gained such respect among them. He raised his hands and gestured for silence. His sunglasses-covered eyes scanned each person, then he gently shook his head.

With his backpack on, he resolutely left the activity center with the five classmates. He left behind an imposing and determined figure.

Being scrutinized by Shaun's eyes, everyone felt a shiver down their spines. But his actions moved them deeply, allowing them to ignore this strange feeling.

"This is a true hero! A nameless hero!" Spike was also excited, but there was a subtle shadow in his eyes. How could a student have gained such respect? It didn't bode well for his rule. He needed to find an opportunity to eliminate Shaun, or he'd soon take over his position.

However, Shaun remained blissfully unaware and unconcerned. Trying to scheme against a zombie was suicidal, wasn't it?

The five people walking with Shaun had a gleam of hope in their eyes as they looked at this student with an indomitable spirit.

Half an hour later, the six of them were gathered in the restroom.

The five classmates were astonished, staring at the food inside the restroom with disbelief.

"There's really food in the restroom?"

"I'm not dreaming, am I?"

Shaun quietly stood at the back, shutting the restroom door with extreme proficiency. He had lugged these supplies from the supermarket, so it definitely wasn't a dream.

To entice the others, he had done this intentionally. And the effect was surprisingly good; all the students fell for it.

A few minutes later, several nearby wandering zombies were attracted by the scent of humans and started scratching at the door.

Bang!

Shaun opened the door from inside and shooed the five new zombies away.

He twisted his body slightly, feeling that he had grown even stronger.

"Ding! The host has successfully infected one person, Evolution Points +10!"

...

"Ding! The host's advancement value has reached 400/400, meeting the advancement conditions..."

"The host is starting to advance..."

"Host's advancement complete!"

"Current tier: Fifth-tier Ordinary Zombie!"

"The host's strength has increased, speed slightly improved, visual and auditory senses slightly enhanced, body agility reinforced..."

"Ding! The host has ascended to the Fifth-tier Ordinary Zombie. A new feature is unlocked in the system: Backpack!"

"Items can be transferred to the system-exclusive backpack. Current backpack slots: Six!"

Shaun didn't expect the system to have a backpack function. This delighted him – he could now bring back his previous warrior ensemble! Down jackets, plastic bags, the handsome elite among zombies! Frying pans, powder puff, incredibly dashing on the streets!

Shaun's evolution points panel had also reached 40/500. He was only 460 points away from the next tier, Elite Zombie. The students in the activity center were more than enough for him to evolve. The weekly task had only seven days left, and he needed to secure that rare talent!

Considering the daily infection progress, it would be challenging to infect everyone within that timeframe. He needed to come up with another plan.

A zombie sat on the campus field, wearing sunglasses and lighting a cigarette, lost in thought.

An hour later, Shaun howled loudly and suddenly stood up, struck by a seamless idea. Without searching for other survivors, he returned directly to the university activity center.

Seeing another loss of five people and no food brought back, Spike's face darkened considerably. Shaun appeared lifeless, even thumping his own head with his hand.

I hate how useless I am!

He dropped his empty backpack, walked straight to a wall, and started banging his head against it.

This scene left everyone baffled. Wasn't this level of self-awareness a bit too much? No one could bring themselves to criticize him – couldn't they see his state?

"It's alright, don't blame yourself!"

"Yeah, you risked your life going out these past few days. It's not your fault if you didn't find any food!"

Though everyone was greatly disappointed, they tried to console Shaun.

Listening to the sound of his head banging against the wall, even they felt a pang of pain. Such qualities in the midst of an apocalypse were truly rare!

Shaun clutched his head and gradually stopped. Seeing the touched expressions on everyone's faces, some of the girls were even crying. He walked to a corner, body twitching continuously, a sight that tugged at people's hearts even more.

However, Shaun's heart was actually rejoicing. It seemed that tomorrow he could execute his plan!

The next day arrived quickly, marking the 17th day since the outbreak. Everyone endured yet another day of hunger. Shaun, once again, took the lead and left with the five companions.

As they watched his departing figure, tears welled up in the eyes of everyone.

Seeing this scene, Spike's desire to frame Shaun intensified. How could he tolerate someone garnering such loyalty? Three hours later, Shaun walked into a supermarket alone, his five companions having already contributed to his advancement points.

This supermarket was fully stocked, but the exterior had too many zombies; no survivors dared approach it. He continuously carried various supplies out.

An electric scooter was parked outside. Soon, it was loaded with various supplies, a large quantity of drinking water, and food.

He even took more than a hundred paper cups.

Finally, after searching high and low, he grabbed three lollipops.

Shaun opened all the drinking water bottles, soaked his blood-stained fingers in them, and let the mixture dilute. Under the red light, the water seemed a bit murky, but it quickly lightened and was difficult to detect.

"Let's hit the road after a good meal!"

Shaun sighed at his own high intelligence. He had thought of such an ingenious plan to poison the water!

Humans, get ready to face the judgment of the Zombie King!

Shaun pulled out the toy sword from his right hand, pointed it at the blood-red sun in the sky, emitted a chilling roar that was incredibly sinister.

Bang!

The electric scooter crashed into a tree! Shaun's body pitched forward, and his head thudded onto the scooter's front...
