8 The Frenzied Shopping

The elevator seemed to be stained with blood, although soothing light music was still playing through the speakers. However, the terrifying scent of death that lingered, along with the blood smell that permeated the air, made Howard extremely nervous.

Clutching 'Cold Moon' in his large hand, his fingertips were somewhat whitened from gripping too hard. Watching the numbers on the elevator screen decrease, Howard's heart rose to his throat.

Ding!

As the number on the screen changed to 1, the elevator doors slowly opened.

"Uh!"

"Hehe..."

The zombies in the lobby on the first floor were immediately attracted by the sound and charged over with strange cries.

"Scare!"

Without needing Howard's instruction, Miranda also let out a roar and charged out herself.

Pfft!

Her sharp claws pierced directly through the eyes of the security zombie in the lead, penetrating its brain. Turning around, she struck again, her nails entering from the back of the zombie's head. However, there was another zombie that completely ignored Miranda's presence, screaming and charging towards Howard.

Howard had never killed a fish, let alone seen such a spectacle, the most he had ever killed was a watermelon! Seeing the zombie with a pale face, neck covered in purple veins, mouth wide open, and a ferocious expression charging at him, Howard steeled his heart.

It's do or die!

Waving 'Cold Moon', he slashed with all his might.

Swoosh! Pfft!

Due to extreme nervousness and fear, Howard used all his strength in this strike. The zombie's head was instantly cut neatly into two halves below the eyes, blood spraying everywhere. A foul stench of blood instantly surged out.

"Yah!"

Seeing Howard take down a zombie with a single strike, Miranda smiled sweetly at him, clenching her little fist as if to cheer him on.

Ding! "Miranda has gained evolution energy +3, level up progress 18/100!"

Ding! "You have gained evolution energy +3, level up progress 8/20!"

So it turns out I can also share energy with Miranda by killing zombies!

Howard was delighted.

In that case, fighting together meant double the joy!

Successfully killing the zombies greatly boosted Howard's confidence. The ferocious-looking zombies seemed not so terrifying after all.

The two of them stepped out the door.

Outside was the street, and Howard's delivery scooter was parked beneath the steps.

Opening the delivery bag, Howard collected the remaining few takeout orders.

"Ding! You have gained 78 food points, 0.5 pure water! Currently at 110 food points, 4.4 water."

At that moment, there were three zombies wandering on the road.

The man who had played the hero to save the beauty upstairs had now turned into a zombie, standing still with his eyes dull and gray.

His neck had been torn open, and blood had stained a large part of his shirt red.

"Scare!"

Miranda was about to let out a roar, but Howard immediately covered her mouth from behind.

"Shh!"

Howard pressed Miranda down, making her crouch with him beside a bright SUV.

He pointed to the cellphone repair shop across the street and the nail salon next to it.

Although both shops were small, they were packed with zombies.

No wonder there were hardly any zombies on the streets; they had all been drawn to the shops by other survivors.

And the doors of these shops were left ajar, so any loud noise outside would cause the zombies inside to swarm out, filling the empty streets.

Miranda possessed zombie-like attributes and wouldn't be attacked.

But Howard was different.

With his current strength, he could definitely handle a one-on-one fight with a zombie.

Even one against two was manageable.

But any more than that, and he couldn't guarantee he'd come out unscathed.

And with zombies, getting injured was tantamount to death.

Without the ability to become immune to the zombie virus, it was better to be cautious.

"Let's take out the zombies on the street first!"

Howard didn't need to speak; just thinking about it, Miranda seemed to sense his intentions. She stood up and quickly dashed to the zombies on the street, taking out three of them in rapid succession!

Then, she dragged over several shared bicycles, tilting them to wedge under the door handles of the shops crowded with zombies. After that, Miranda pulled off a large piece of cardboard from a scavenger's cart and returned to Howard's side.

"Here!"

Miranda positioned the cardboard to shield Howard's side, gesturing with her hands.

"What a smart girl!"

Howard couldn't help but admire her.

There was a row of planned street parking spots near the apartment building on the street. Hiding behind the side of a car could only block the view from zombies across the street, but offered almost no cover from the shops on the same side of the street. The large piece of cardboard Miranda found perfectly covered Howard's crouching body.

"Hehe!"

Praised, Miranda smiled sweetly, her little face beaming with a proud expression.

With Miranda holding the cardboard to cover Howard, the two quickly reached the crossroads. The supermarket doors were closed tight, and the rolling shutter was pulled down.

"What do we do now?!"

Howard couldn't help frowning. This was the only supermarket nearby, and although there were restaurants and a fruit and vegetable supermarket a bit farther away, the streets over there were crowded with zombies, making it impossible to navigate through the throng with their current sneaky method. Relying on Miranda to fight their way through, just the rapidly increasing hunger alone could drain them.

Moreover, Howard found that whenever he fed Miranda, his own hunger increased more quickly. Having just eaten two chicken legs for a meal, he was already feeling hungry again.

"Number 19..."

Howard's eyes unintentionally caught the house number hanging next to the supermarket. It seemed familiar! He quickly took out his phone to check the overdue orders.

"That's right, it's here!"

The person who, knowing full well that zombies were rampant outside, still urged Howard to deliver the meal, actually lived at 19 South Card Road! In the supermarket?!

That person had mentioned that the main entrance was locked, advising him to take the alley at the back and deliver through the back door.

Now, everything matched up!

This guy, hoarding all the food in the supermarket, was still fixated on the meal he ordered!

Just 5 minutes ago, this person was still leaving messages for Howard. The message was filled with indecent curses and harsh words. Probably seeing that Howard was ignoring him, he changed his strategy.

The last message was: "Fine, all this talk, you just think it's not worth it for a single delivery, right?

Here's what we'll do, I'll give you a big tip, that should do it, right?"

Reading this message, Howard couldn't help but sneer coldly.

So, in this person's eyes, the life of a delivery driver is worth just that much!

He quickly replied in the chat box: "You wait, I'll be there in no time!"

A chill flashed through Howard's eyes.
