15 Oh, Eva!

Although Eva was a zombie, Maxwell felt somewhat uncomfortable being stared at by her.

Maxwell couldn't help but say, "Eva, don't look at me like that, can you turn your head away?"

Eva stared blankly at him, and from her expressionless face, Maxwell read three words: "Don't know."

Eva didn't understand, so her eyes remained fixed on him, unmoving.

Maxwell had to pretend not to notice and continued bathing.

After finishing his bath, he turned back to Eva and said, "Come here, Eva, let me help you bathe."

Eva was currently wearing a princess dress with a noticeable hole in the middle, and Maxwell remembered that when he first met Eva, the little girl also had a hole in her waist.

However, after several fusions and upgrades, Eva had become a mutated zombie, and the hole in her waist had been mended.

Maxwell walked over to Eva, helped her take off the princess dress, and placed it in the river water.

He didn't have any detergent, and the bloodstains on the dress were old and not easy to clean, but soaking it seemed like a useful thing to do.

As Maxwell rubbed the dress, Eva continued to stare blankly at him, standing still like a doll, her gaze fixed on him.

Then, Maxwell said with a smile, "Eva, come here, let me wash you."

Eva didn't respond.

Maxwell didn't expect any reply.

He picked up Eva and gently placed her in the water, then patiently began to wash the little girl.

Under the moonlight, Eva almost looked like any other human girl.

Maxwell rubbed her small arms; her skin was fine and smooth but very cold, the temperature felt off.

But in this night, it really wasn't apparent that there was anything unusual.

If it were daytime, Eva certainly wouldn't withstand close observation. It's estimated she might need to advance two more levels before the zombie traits could be completely erased.

Maxwell bathed her thoroughly, cleaning the little girl from head to toe.

"Eva, now let's wash your hair."

"Bend your head down, Eva, put your hair into the water to soak," Maxwell instructed.

But Eva really didn't understand.

Maxwell had no choice; he couldn't expect the little girl to bend over and soak her hair by herself.

So, Maxwell gently pressed Eva's head into the water, ensuring her hair fully contacted the river water.

He then started washing her hair.

"All done!"

Maxwell finished up, having thoroughly cleaned Eva!

At that moment, Maxwell wondered whether he should also help Carline clean up the next day.

Then, he built a fire on the riverbank, and after much effort, he dried Eva's princess dress.

Eva, clean and dressed in her fresh princess dress, looked even more adorable.

"Like a doll!" Maxwell couldn't help but rub Eva's little head as he spoke.

After a whole day's activity, Maxwell felt exhausted. He sat by the campfire, feeling the warmth, and soon fell asleep.

As for concerns about personal safety, he wasn't worried. After all, all the remaining zombies in his space were taken out to act as sentinels. Although these zombies weren't high-level, they were very vigilant and would be the first to alert him to any disturbances.

After Maxwell fell asleep, Eva continued to watch him.

Towards the middle of the night, the usually motionless Eva moved.

She slowly walked over to Maxwell's side, then leaned against his arm. Apparently not feeling close enough, she then snuggled into Maxwell's embrace, resting against his chest, and mimicking him, she closed her eyes.

Maxwell slept very soundly that night.

The next morning, as he woke up, he felt something in his arms. Looking down, he saw a fluffy little head very close to him.

"Eva?"

The little head lifted, and a pair of large black eyes stared at him, unblinking, clearly belonging to Eva.

Aren't zombies supposed to not need sleep?

Why would Eva be in his arms?

Maxwell couldn't figure it out, so he just continued to watch Eva.

"Eva, if you can understand what I'm saying, nod your head... never mind, just blink."

Maxwell said.

Eva didn't react at all.

Though there was no response, Maxwell was still quite happy. After all, Eva's closeness indicated that in her perception, he was a special existence.

Maxwell was suddenly filled with determination!

Upgrade Eva again and again!

Keep it up!

...

"I wonder if Carline and the others have made any progress."

Thinking this, Maxwell entered his Fusion space and clicked on the eye icon, and then he saw a scene crowded with zombies.

Just from a quick glance, there seemed to be three or four thousand.

"Wow! How come there are so many!"

Maxwell was both surprised and pleased.

Goodness, all this in just one night, Carline was really efficient!

Then Maxwell clicked on another mutated zombie's eye, and at a glance, he saw a similarly dense crowd of zombies.

However, the number was clearly fewer than at Carline's site, but still over two thousand.

How could it be that both are mutated zombies, yet this one is so much less effective than Carline?

Maxwell felt very fortunate now; indeed, sending Carline out to work was a wise decision!

This talented girl, even after becoming a zombie, was still a genius mutated zombie!

Indeed, talented people are impressive, even as zombies!

Indeed, keeping Carline had been a very wise choice.

Maxwell suddenly had a premonition that Carline would be a great help to him in the future and would bring him many surprises.

With Carline's three to four thousand zombies, plus the over two thousand from the mutated male zombie, the total was estimated to be around six thousand.

That was about a quarter of the zombie horde that had attacked Diego base city previously!

Besides level 1 zombies, Maxwell also discovered some level 2 zombies.

What had happened with the zombie tide? Why were so many zombies left behind?

Maxwell couldn't help but wonder, but this did not conflict with his plans to assimilate this large group of zombies.

"Eva, let's go upgrade!"

With such good news, Maxwell happily took Eva and headed towards the direction where Carline was located.

Carline was with that group of zombies in a small valley near the village.

After Maxwell appeared, the zombies became agitated, growling and howling at Maxwell, even rushing towards him crazily.

It took Maxwell nearly half a day to eliminate this batch of three to four thousand zombies.

"My hands are almost numb! But the rewards are quite substantial!"

Maxwell was overjoyed.
