The room was small and sparse, with wooden beams supporting the ceiling and a cold stone floor. A few chimneys were scattered around the room, with a small fire burning in the corner. The flames cast flickering shadows on the walls, and the air smelled of smoke and ash.
As Mei's eyes fluttered open, she felt disoriented and confused. She wondered where she was and how she had gotten there. Her head pounded with a dull ache, and her body felt heavy. She sat up slowly, her eyes scanning the room for any clues. She noticed a glass of water on the nightstand and reached for it, her hand shaking as she lifted it to her lips. She took a long drink, feeling the cool water wash away some of the confusion. As she looked around the room again, Mei noticed a few items on the table: a map of the surrounding area, a journal, and a few pens. She felt a sense of unease wash over her as she looked at the map. She didn't know the area and had no idea what lay ahead.
Mei swung her feet over the side of the bed and stood up, her bare feet touching the cold floor. She felt a shiver run through her body and realized she was still wearing the army attire she had been given.
Pacing around the room, Mei's mind raced with questions.
Who had brought her here?
She reminded herself that she had enlisted to protect her people, the Asian clan. She couldn't let them be wiped out like so many others. Mei's mind wandered as she stared at the map in front of her, lost in thought. She couldn't shake the feeling of dread that had settled in her chest. The war had taken a toll on her, physically and emotionally, and she wasn't sure how much longer she could continue like this. But then she remembered her family, fighting for their survival, and her resolve strengthened once more.
She couldn't let them down, no matter how hard it was. Mei donned her army attire and headed out of the room, steeling herself for whatever lay ahead. As she walked through the fortress, she saw many other soldiers, some with looks of determination, others with fear etched on their faces. Mei couldn't help but wonder about their stories. Had they, like her, been forced into this war? Or had they willingly enlisted, eager to prove themselves in battle? Her thoughts were interrupted by a commotion up ahead.
Mei quickened her pace and soon found herself in the midst of a group of soldiers, gathered around a woman she had never seen before. The woman was tall and imposing, with a fierce expression on her face. Mei couldn't help but feel a pang of envy at the woman's confidence and authority. She wished she could be like that, fearless and unyielding. But as the woman began to speak, Mei realized that there was more to her than met the eye. She spoke of loss and sacrifice, of the horrors of war, and Mei felt a kinship with her. They were both soldiers, fighting for what they believed was right, even if it meant making difficult choices. Mei listened intently, her resolve strengthened once more. She may not have chosen this path, but she would walk it with conviction, for the sake of her family and her people.
