1 Prologue

Some say that time is the most precious thing in this world. After all, it can't be bought, or exchanged for. Everyone wants to have more time for their partners, or for a school project. But for Wei An, this wasn't the case. Everyone's most precious dreams are nurtured from what they lacked the most in childhood. As someone who lacked love, naturally Wei An's wildest dreams included finding her mother and father when she grew up, making friends that accompanied her along her path. Maybe she would even find a lover.

But those dreams were soon shattered. Why? Because right now, Wei An was sitting on the ground, her silver hair messed up, with a gun pointed to her head. The culprit? Her closest "friend", Rebecca. Normally, Rebecca would have a sweet, sweet smile, so sweet that sometimes Wei An thought that syrup would drip down from it. But now, it seems like Rebecca was tired of pretending. And so was she.

Breaking into a wide smile, Wei An provokingly said,

"Even if you kill me, you won't be able to surpass all my achievements using twice your life. You were always meant to stay in my shadows."

Since Wei An was about to die, she should indulge in the last pleasure of watching Rebecca's smile twist, and twist, until it was about to snap like a rope that was hanging by a teensy thread. Big, burly men flanked Rebecca on both sides. Then, Wei An knew what to do in order to make Rebecca go insane.

"HAH! It's so hilarious, watching you flounder around, just to win someone's love. Though you may have succeeded in cornering me, you still won't obtain Jiang Shi's heart! So pathetic."

Wei An hissed out the last word, watching in great amusement as Rebecca's face grew darker and darker with each passing second.

Suddenly, the gun went off, scaring both Wei An and the pigeons that were pecking the ground for food. Staring at the blooming rose on her clothes, Wei An tried to breathe as she started to lose conscious. On the other hand, Rebecca was in shock, her mind trying to process what had just happened. She, the pampered lady, was actually killed. What would she do if she went into jail? Thinking about her whole carrier on line, Rebecca hurriedly left the crime scene, leaving behind the dying Wei An. But before she could do that, a brilliant white cat jumped from behind and slashed at her. Rebecca's hand was now mangled. One of the goons behind her delivered a kick to the cat, breaking its ribs and leaving it on death's door.

After Rebecca had left, Wei An excruciatingly pulled something from behind her. It was a simple bamboo flute. Carved with sakura flower designs, the bamboo flute was reddish brown that glinted under the dim light of the alley. It was the only thing that her mother left her. In fact, Wei An never got to meet her parents, never got to go to the park with them, never got to experience the family love. She was a loner. And that was a fact that she hated.

Slowly turning around to the white cat, Wei An expressed her apologies and thanks. The white fur and blue eyes, she had seen them somewhere. Suddenly, she remembered. A small girl, carrying a club, had beat some young boys to the point that their moms couldn't recognized, all for a cat. A cat with white fur and blue eyes. Extremely identical to the white cat lying in front of her. With a cry of anguish, Wei An hugged the cat. The cat, Crystal, had always been with her from the day she saved it. They had been through thick and thin, but now, everything was coming to an end. Slowly, an fire built up within her. A dream. Yes, a dream. A dream to be at the pinnacle of the world, stepping on it as she pleased. A dream where her parents and lover and friends would be alongside her, supporting her. A dream where she would no longer be bullied, trampled.

Just then, a drop of blood landed on Wei An's flute. A sudden light shone, and Wei An blacked out. Holding Crystal in her arms, Wei An drifted to sleep.

All she knew was that she, Wei An, would strive to find her own happiness one day.
