Chapter five
"Ejiro said he flew out of the state this evening for an urgent meeting with his Board members" One of the men said as he dropped his phone on a stool next to him. A group of 5 men; who ran the Club; usually gather once in a week at their private bar.
The bar is long with huge paintings on the wall. It had all varieties of alcohol and the seats are cushions and small too. Except for the bouncers at the entrance, only women are allowed to work, and they are mandated to walk around naked. The bar was heavily permeated by cigarette smokes. The women parading up and down the bar, while some sitted close to the men, massaging their chest and hair.
"I don't see no reason he shouldn't be here. He knows we all had tight schedules to attend to before now. Ejiro should know better, he isn't the only one that has more important things to do." One of the men named Franklin said, then puff out a ball of smoke from his mouth.
"It doesn't matter Rex" signaled to the women to give them some space. "Let's discuss the issue at hand". Adjusting I'm his seat as he continued
"Our dealer has put an increment. 30% for each girls" the men frowns.
Rex blurted "that's greediness, how dare him".
Franklin interrupted "he wouldn't change his mind, but right now the issue is, the package comes in 3 days and we have just 2 days to decide, otherwise they channel it to a new client. I heard there's a new competition here in the South".
"This new client. Do you have any information about them?", one of them asked, Franklin shakes head.
Rex smiled and said "I trust Ejiro would fish them out. He has eyes and ears everywhere.
Franklin asked "what do we need their details for Rex. What do we do with that?".
Rex replies valiantly "we rat them out to the police. There shouldn't be a competition".
The men concurred to the idea. They had been in the business for years and need no competition. They also planned to eliminate the dealer to have direct access to the business. After, they raised a toast, invited the ladies back and began to have fun.
The sky was getting darker and the stars where almost visible. Disturbing hooter from vehicle could be heard from the inside. The living room was so illuminated and especially beautiful tonight because every bulb light in the room were switched on. Giving the living room different shades of color, ranging from chartreuse to blue. Nero had been restless and pacing around for a while. He finally settled on a chair at the dinning attachment, leans his back on the seat, thrust one leg out to gain balance and looking up into space in thoughts. The house was unusually quiet, Tega had moved in weeks ago but has gone out with Didi to see a movie. Didi and Tega had come to enjoy each other's company.
The door opened at Dr Ovie walked into the room carrying his briefcase. He had come straight from the hospital. Dressed in a blue suit and still had his reading glasses on. Nero was furious on seeing him, stood at spoke vehemently at him
"What are you doing in my house" Nero smiled drops his briefcase on the table and walked closer to Nero
"That's not a nice reception, you didn't even greet me" Ovie said calmly.
Nero blurted out "To hell with that. I need you to leave my house right now".
Ovie looked into his eyes fiercely and said "You dont talk to me like that little boy. I am not your mate". Nero mellowed, he knew how crazy Dr Ovie could when provoked. Nero sat back on the chair and said calmly.
"How can you tell Dad I got HIV, that was unprofessional. It was suppose to be between use uncle".
Ovie gave a snide gesture and asked "Do you know one thing this family is good at?" Nero stared at him as he contines "keeping secret and ungodly secrets and trust me I am done". Ovie took out glasses, pulls out a handkerchief from his pocket, wipes it as he speaks. Nero has never seem Uncle Ovie this serious and mean before.
"I and your father Ejiro, watched our father, your grand father, break our mother's head on the wall and she died" Nero expressed shock at the revelation
"What?" Nero blurted in disbelief.
Ovie grinned and replied "I know. I'm sure your father never told you and never would" puts back his glasses. "Our father forced us to tell everyone she slipped and fell from the stairs. A secret I and your father was supposed to die with".
Nero said "Uncle are you sure what you are saying. Are you drunk?"
Ovie squinted at him "Do I look intoxicated to you?" Nero became horrified. Ovie asked again folding his arms "When I was still treating your mother before she died. I found a substance in her system, I wasn't sure what it was but I never told your father. When Didi and his mother came into our lives, I noticed the striking resemblance between him and my late mother. Everything caught more suspicious when Didi's mother became sick. She had exactly the same symptoms as your late mother, Sarah. Then I ran a test and discovered the same substance I found in your mother's body in hers too".
Nero snapped "A poison". Ovie squinted again and said.
"I conducted a secret DNA test on Didi, and discovered he's your father's biological son". Nero was astonished "what?". He stands.
Ovie looked at him and said "How old do you Yonu was?.
Nero frowns and replies "I wouldn't know. What's the point?".
Ovie replies "She was 28. She was always closed and awkward."
Nero interrupted and acting awkward like his head was going to pop, " This whole thing is getting crazy and complicated. What kind of substance what that. Are you suggesting my father killed my mother and Yonu. No it can't be" He began to pace around, Ovie was watching his quietly until he turned back again to him and said again, "I can't believe father lied to me. So Didi is his biological son".
Ovie frowned at him and said "You dissapoint me boy. The question should be, What was your father doing with a 15 year old girl".
Nero paused at the last statement stumped. Ovie scratched his head, goes to table, picked his briefcase and said
"Do well with that information boy" he heads to the door, opened and looked back at Nero, who was still in shock "Good night". He left closing the door behind him.
